I laughed when the lady on the news said that it was a 'rare' mutation. She has obviously never been to a commercial hatchery where hundreds of thousands of chicks are hatched each week. I worked at one for two days when I was 19, and didn't go back. In their first day of life they are also sexed and vaccinated. I was put on the 'cull' line. I watched as chick after chick went by and if they had anything wrong with them I was to pull them off the line and toss them into a carrier. The ones with four legs, no beaks, no wings or four wings, no eyes or three eyes, basically, the 'rare mutations'. I almost got sick when I was shown the place I was to dispose of these little freaks. Into an auger that all of the other biological waste (egg shells, and eggs that didn't hatch) went, for 'further processing'. I was told that this was processed into animal feeds. That part didn't bother me, but tossing them in while they were alive did. So when you see 'chicken by-products' on your dog's food, that's where part of it comes from.

Maybe this little duckling will avoid this fate.
