Did y'all know that when corn was first discovered to be edible that an ear was about 2.5 inches long? It has been manipulated for over a thousand years now. My last job had me verifying that the corn brought into our plant was 'starlink' negative. Starlink was engineered by a company based in France. StarLink is a variety of genetically-engineered corn developed by Aventis Corp. to include two new traits, each coded by a different gene: 1) "Bt" based resistance to Lepidopteran caterpillar pests, such as the European Corn Borer, and 2) tolerance to glufosinate herbicides, such as Basta, Liberty, etc. StarLink is unlike other "Bt corn" varieties because it produces a modified version of the Bacillus thuringiensis (Bt) toxin protein, known as "Cry9C," an Aventis proprietary technology.
It was not approved for food-use by humans because the protein that it produces can be seen by the human body as an allergen, like peanuts in some people. This alteration simply allows the corn to repel insects by the production of certain proteins that bugs don't like. There are many types of GE corn and other foods that are in use by this relatively simple manipulation. This first started eons ago when farmers realised that certain ears of corn showed no insect infestation in group of otherwise infested ears. Only the seed from the uninfested corn was used to plant the nest crop, and voi'la, the birth of genetic engineering!
Some GE is good, some is bad; it depends what it is. Don't think badly of all GE food products just because it's GE. Some are good for us, some not. What is for sure is that we are able to feed millions more because of it. We just have to be careful in it's testing before releasing it to the public.

Well, I took Horticulture for 4 yrs. Hybridization is much different than the gene modifications they are doing. Like you point out that corn was much smaller way back and that is true. There are number of ways that making bigger ears of corn can result--- you can do it by polyploiding plants or by crossbreeding varieties of the same kind. Notice producing with the same kind is all in the realm of Genesis that all seed bearing plants produce after itheir own kind --that is in the order of nature God intended.
This is far different then taking a fish gene and sticking it in a tomato. If God wanted a fish gene in tomatoes He would have put it there in the first place. This kind of GM is a corruption against the order of creation that God ordained from the beginning. Like Senti said--- the days of Noah. It makes me sick---
and all I can say is Come Lord Jesus!
