Full Version: What's In Your Treasure Chest?
Christian-Forum.net > General discussion > What do you say?

We all have our treasures, things we hold dear. Some may hide their treasure in secret but I will gladly share mine with you.

I'm not rich as some may measure wealth but I have amassed a vast fortune. A couple of years ago I purchased a humble treasure chest and began to fill it with little jewels. I scrimped and I saved until my little treasure chest was filled with the most fabulous treasure. What are my little gems? They are seeds. You might laugh and say, "those are not worth anything, anyone can afford to fill a box with seeds". I would say, "Exactly". Now if there was a famine and there was no food to be bought anywhere, what would be worth more, a million dollars in a bank, or my little box of seeds? Hint, you can't eat a bank statement. Consider how one lowly little seed could potentially feed thousands. How is that possible? Take one little pumpkin seed it could potentially grow 5 pumpkins each weighing 10 lbs, you have 50 lbs of pumpkin, not that much food, but you have hundreds of seeds that could potentially grow thousands of lbs of food and the next season the harvest could be even greater.

Don't get me wrong, I'm not prophecying that there's going to be a famine and I pray that there never is, but if there ever was wouldn't you feel more secure if you had a little treasure of seed to draw from? At least the 4 sisters, beans, corn, sunflower and squash, the indians could grow enough food to live on, on a very small plot of land using the 4 sisters (the beans climb the sunflowers and corn and the squash vines wind their way between the stalks, very efficient use of space). Whether or not there's going to be a famine, I don't know, but I do know that many people have had visions concerning this, including my old uncle Ray. Everyone laughed at him squirreling away food for a famine that never came but he never went hungry till the day he died.

After I wrote this, I was feeling a little tired so I took a quick cat nap and immediately went into a dream. I dreamed that I was driving down the same old road that I drive everyday, when out of nowhere a railroad crossing sign comes down across the road ahead. I almost drove around it because I thought, there can't be a train crossing the road here, the tracks are far away, but I stopped behind the sign and looked. Just then a speeding train came flying across the road, if I had ignored the sign I would have been killed. I thought, "Wow, if the sign says a trains comin' than I guess a trains coming even if it has never come this way before".

Seeds are where it is at. One apple seed could repopulate the world with apple trees if needed. I plant seeds every day and so do we all. God works with seeds. ( Luk 8:11 Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God.) God works with words. He is into sowing and reaping and that is why we are exercised to do the same...whatever we sow we reap. Even a natural harvest can give the thirty, sixty or hundred fold return. Unfortunately that works for and against. Weed seeds grow also. I think we may even have more seed than God does because for us everything is a seed. Our words, our thoughts and our deeds are all being sown moment by moment. Our daily life is an event of simultaneous sowing and reaping. Whatever comes your way is a reaping process which is due to the sowing you are doing or someone else is doing. That is why bad things can happen to good people. Someone else has sown seeds in your garden. Seeds are intergenerational and can reproduce offspring into future generations. That is for the natural and also for the spiritual. Seeds have been found which are hundreds of years old and they will germinate. Scripturally, Exo 20:5 Thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God [am] a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth [generation] of them that hate me;

I work with words! My word changes things! The power in My word is in consistency. There is no variableness, neither shadow of turning! Believing is receiving! Faith comes by hearing My word. Results come by doing My word. Power is released by speaking My word. With the heart man believes and with the mouth confession is made. Death and life are in the power of your tongue! A man's belly shall be satisfied with the fruit of his mouth; and with the increase of his lips he shall be filled!

Learn to speak your Father's language...The language of faith and possibility; without diversity of thought or variation of dialect. With singleness of mind I bring about My purposes. For if the trumpet give an uncertain sound, who will prepare him self to the battle? My language co-exists with another language. That of fear and doubt and unbelief! The devil's language speaks of hopelessness, impossibility and despair. It is a foreign language to a Kingdom child! I say that you should not know it! Disassociate yourself from it's dominion over your thought life.

Let the abundance of your heart be continually washed by My word. Let My ways become your ways, and you shall be established. My truth is discovered and revealed in those who speak My language. You shall be free from the law of death and from every evil work! You shall be cradled by endless opportunity as you speak My word and believe it's truth. You can't have an opinion about truth! Choose My truth and you choose Me! Choose Me and you choose life! Choose life and you choose every benefit, blessing and favor which I bestow upon My followers!

Your life is not out of control. If you have given Me charge, it is just out of your control! He who commands will also enable. I am making you ready in My ability, not your own! Be steadfast in your confession of My word! I have told My people they can have what they say, and they are saying what they have! Attend to My word, My faithful! As you move out to maintain My way, I will also maintain yours! Move in the integrity of heart which is meet for My righteous cause to be performed, and I will open every door which is before you! You shall reap a bountiful harvest for My kingdom! Move out in faith and allow Me to show Myself strong in your behalf! You have My blessing and approval to be all you can be, and to approach Me at every hour and point of of need. Be at peace as I unfold new opportunities of being and serving! Amen!

A Hybridized Gospel

Rev. Richard Abel

Have you ever read The Acts of the Apostles and been sorely aware of the obvious disparity between the fruit of the early Apostolic Church and what calls itself the "church" in the United States of America in our day and age? I would be burying my head in the sands of self-deception if I were to try to convince myself that what I have seen in my lifetime was anything like a mirror image of the fruit produced by the Church in the Book of Acts.

Where is the hunger and thirst for righteousness? Why has HOLY been added to the list of other four letter words? Where is true devotion to the Lord Jesus, and sincere commitment to his Church? Why are so many rejecting the manna of God's Word in favor of the starvation diet of experiential religion? Why is there so little separation from the world? I could go on and on, but I think I have said enough to make my point. This paradigm shift as it is commonly called did not happen over night, but has been passed along from one generation of "Christians" to the next.

Plants and animals receive their unique characteristics by way of the DNA passed along to them throughout their parental seed. When that DNA is changed the characteristics of the offspring will be altered. I am going to use this physical principal to illustrate how and why I believe the "church" of this Nation came to be so unlike her parent Church in the Book of Acts.

I was born, raised and have lived my entire life of fifty-two years in the state of Illinois within the heart of what has been dubbed the Corn Belt. Every spring, farmers plant field after field of seed corn. For the most part, all of the field corn grown today is grown from hybrid seed. Hybrid seed is produced by cross pollinating two or more standard varieties of corn in order to produce a new variety of seed which when planted will produce plants and fruit bearing the best characteristics of its parent plants. Hybrid varieties of many types of plants have been produced over the years.

Most home gardeners are familiar with such beautiful tomatoes as the "Big Boy", or the "Super Fantastic". Both of these are hybrids, whose seeds have been produced by the crossing of several of the old standard, or "heirloom" varieties of tomatoes such as the "Rutgers" or the "Beefsteak".

While there are obvious advantages in growing hybrid plants, there is one notable disadvantage. Seeds saved and planted from standard varieties, will produce plants and fruit after their own kind. On the other hand, seeds saved from a hybrid and planted the following year will NOT produce fruit exactly like the hybrid fruit they were taken from. Instead they will produce a harvest of "throwbacks" bearing any of the various characteristics derived from the standard varieties which were initially crossed in order to produce the hybrid. In other words, instead of a harvest of generally uniform fruit, one will end up with a mixture of fruit that in reality does not exactly resemble its original parent plants or the hybrid they were taken from. Simply put, such fruit might be considered the mutt of the botanical world.

With all this in mind, let us consider the following verses of Scripture:

They that sow in tears shall reap in joy. He that goeth forth and weepeth, bearing precious seed, shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing his sheaves with him. Psalm 126:5,6 (KJV)

Our primary focus here is the precious seed which the sower sowed. In Luke 8:5-15, Jesus told "The parable of the sower", as it is commonly called. I would like to suggest that a better title for this parable might be "The parable of the seed", for it is the seed that is the main focus, not the sower. Jesus tells us in (Luke 8:11 ) what the seed represents in his parable: "Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God." I believe that the "precious seed" which the sower of Psalm 126 was sowing in tears was also the Word of God.

As we noted earlier, man has developed hybrid seeds in an attempt to improve on standard seeds, and hopefully produce a bigger and better harvest. In light of that, let's consider what the Bible says about the seed of God's Word:

Thy word is very pure: therefore thy servant loveth it. Psalm 119:140 (KJV)

Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him. Proverbs 30:5 (KJV)

The seed of God's Word is precious and pure. It cannot be improved on, it is already perfect.

The Lord Jesus Christ has made his Church custodian of the "Seed of the Gospel". As in the "Parable of the sower", we are responsible for sowing the pure seed of the Gospel wherever we go. As we consider Jesus' parable, we notice that the sower was not very discriminating about where he sowed the seed. As he scattered the seed, some fell by the wayside and was either trodden under foot or eaten by birds. Some fell among rocks, and didn't survive due to insufficient moisture. Some landed amongst thorns and weeds, and was choked out before it got much of a start in life. And last of all some managed to land on good soil, grow to maturity and produce a good harvest of fruit.

We must remember that there is nothing wrong with the "Gospel seed" we have been given to sow. It is precious and pure. The failure of people to find new life in Christ and to mature in him is not the fault of the Gospel seed. Much of the time as we sow the seed of the Gospel it seems to be unproductive in the soil on which we have sown it. Nonetheless, Jesus called his disciples to be seed sowers not soil testers.

We live in a culture that is "results motivated". If we put our hand to a particular task and fail to see the results we expected to see then we seek to find out what is wrong with our method and improve on it in order to produce a greater visible result. In the parable of the sower, all the sower was accountable for was the sowing of the good seed. The results were in the hands of the Lord. Sadly enough, over the years there have been some within the church who decided that the pure seed of the Gospel was not good enough to produce the numerical results desired to make a local church, or an entire denomination look good enough in the eyes of man.

Such people, perhaps unwittingly, have hybridized the pure seed of God's Holy Word so as to produce what they think will be a bigger and better harvest once they have sown it. Over the years man has attempted to cross-pollinate the pure truth of God's Holy Word with anything and everything he could think of in hopes of drawing a bigger crowd and producing faster results. And sure enough he has produced a new hybrid gospel seed that does indeed produce a bigger crowd. All he had to do was cross-pollinate the pure Gospel with the sensual music of the world for those who would refuse to reject it, or the ungodly fashions of the world for those who would refuse to leave it; or the greed of the world for those who still lusted for it. For those who are easily bored with the preaching of the cross, the DNA of drama, comedy and other forms of entertainment can be introduced into the pure Gospel seed. For those who are personally offended by the concepts of the depravity of man, his sinful nature and his need to repent, the 11 self-esteem" teachings of "psychoheresy" can be added in so as to make these folks feel good about who they are in and of themselves. And now for those who want instant "supernatural power" without truly pressing into the Lord, paranormal manifestations from the world of the occult have been added to the pure seed to titillate the flesh of the spiritually hungry and produce a greater "harvest".

Has this hybridized gospel drawn a bigger crowd? So it seems. Has it produced a bigger harvest of souls? So they claim. But I ask you this... is the quality of the fruit of this big harvest as good as the fruit produced when the Gospel seed of Jesus Christ is sown in its precious and pure form? I am satisfied that IT 1S NOT! How can one improve on seed that is already perfect? Hybridizing such seed can only corrupt it and in the end produce fruit that does not exactly resemble the original. While the quantity of the fruit may appear to increase, the quality has definitely diminished.

If we refuse to corrupt the truth of the Gospel God has given us, we can be sure that the fruit that does come from sowing it will resemble the original. We can also be certain that the seed that is sown from that second generation of fruit will resemble the original as well. Friends, that is how the true Gospel continues on, by keeping the pure seed free from any hybridization regardless of anyone's guarantee of a higher yield.

My experience over the years has been that people fail to respond to the pure Gospel not because it is insufficient and weak in and of itself, but because of a hardened, unbelieving heart. Likewise many people fail to realize the power of the Gospel to break the shackles of sin and set them free because they refuse to obey Christ's commands.

Finally, I ask you this: What sort of fruit did we say we could expect to grow from the seeds of hybrid plants? We called them "throwbacks". I ask you then, what variety of "Christian" can we expect to come forth from the seed sown by folks who themselves "got saved" through the ministry of someone who was sowing a hybrid gospel seed? The fruit of such a planting will be diverse and strange, bearing precious little resemblance to the fruit produced by the precious, pure seed of God's Holy Word.

As sowers of the precious seed, we must never be tempted to hybridize the Gospel in order to improve on its effect. All we can possibly do is corrupt the pure seed and mutate the good fruit it alone can produce. We are not accountable for success as man judges success, but only for faithfulness as the Lord of the harvest judges stewardship. If we sow the same seed that Peter and Paul sowed, we will see the same fruit being produced today as we see recorded in The Acts of the Apostles. If we faithfully and prayerfully sow the precious and pure seed of the Gospel in tears of sorrow over the lost, we shall doubtless come again with rejoicing, bringing our sheaves with us.

John Belt: "RUNNING WITH THE LORD--WITH A NEW NAME AND BRILLIANT FLAMES"

"We are called to carry the weight of His Presence, but leave the details to Him."

Our Song: "I Will Run With You"

There is a song being sung from Heaven: "Will You Run With Me?" The Lord is looking for those who will run in abandoned love and worship to Him without any contingencies or strings attached. He is looking for a people who will hold and steward the things of the Lord with an open hand (just enough to carry), but not control. He desires to pour out His Spirit in us and through us. He wants carriers, not controllers.

2 Corinthians 4:7, "But we have this treasure in earthen vessels, that the excellence of the power may be of God and not of us."

We are called to carry the weight of His Presence, but leave the details to Him. Whatever and whoever it involves must be an open hand that won't clench to control (Jeremiah 17:5). This is the condition for running with the Lord and consistently being able to carry His love and Presence.

It is not about what we can do, but about what only He can do. His glory only is the sole provider of all things. In this, He gets all the glory. Our role is simply to yield and be the releasers of His grace in love and freedom. Our song to Him is "I will run with You!"

Hebrews 12:1-2, "Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God."

The New Name God Gives to Us

The Lord gives us a new name--a new identity. Our total identity is wrapped up in our association with Him. As His children, we receive this new name. In walking in the new name, we are confident and strong, knowing who we are in Him. It is about the name that He has given to us (Revelation 3:12).

Revelation 2:17, "He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the Churches. To him who overcomes I will give some of the hidden manna to eat. And I will give him a white stone, and on the stone a new name written which no one knows except him who receives it."

We can choose to walk in our "old name" or walk in the new that God has given. It is a picture of choosing to yield to the old man or the new man created in true righteousness in holiness (Ephesians 4:24). We are partakers of the divine nature through His promises (2 Peter 1:4).

By abiding in Him through His living words and in simplicity in worship and prayer, we begin to see, hear, and walk in this new nature that He has given to us. The powers of darkness know when we are walking in the new nature. And when we live in that nature they will call us by that name and fear us.

Acts 19:15, "And the evil spirit answered and said, 'Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are you?'"

Just as Saul received a new name from the Lord, the demons recognized him by his new name, the new divine nature--not the old. This is because Paul walked in the new name and life that God had given to him.

Part of walking in the new name will be the ability to love in action and in deed. Love never fails. Love overcomes evil. Love covers a multitude of sins. There will be a high measure of grace to love those who are walking in the old name, those who are religious, and those outside of the religious world.

Brilliant Flames of Worship & Prayer

There are altars of prayer that are without fire, but are going to be lit-up in brilliant flames. The smoke of worship and prayer will ascend up throughout cities, bringing light as they are billowed by the stirrings of God's passionate and persistent people. Many priestly worshippers will come to assist in these prayer altars.

Revelation 8:3-4, "Then another angel, having a golden censer, came and stood at the altar. And he was given much incense, that he should offer it with the prayers of all the saints upon the golden altar which was before the throne. And the smoke of the incense, with the prayers of the saints, ascended before God from the angel's hand."

These worship and prayer altars will rise to light up cities and change atmospheres. These spiritual fires will be seen from great distances. When these fires are released, many more priestly worshippers, young and old, will run into the cities with great speed to help tend these flames.

Much Grace!

treasures....

Wonderful words on this thread. Reminds me of when we are reintroduced to all those who arrive in heaven because we and others sowed seed the Spirit was able to water.

my treasures are small, really, though I sow as the Lord Almighty tells me to sow in the world and I love all my brothers and sisters in Christ, my treasures are my two children and their wonderful love for the Lord, and the hope of hearing, "Well done, good and faithful servant."

I think that is all I need always.

Not clenching control is something that comes through growing in grace and the long suffering of the Lord with us. This isn't the only condition. The reason l say this is because my Church is so focused on clean hands and true worship right now. So when we lay down the things that beset us (sin and stings and strings) we can carry the weight of his presence without carrying anything else that will smudge or infect the body with our weakness.
I talked about in another string how excited l was to go to church on Sunday. MY my my...I got what l wanted and prayed for!

Reading this was really inspiring and convicting!
I see this "fleshly" Gospel in so many churches (including my own) and it really depresses me.
I sing on our worship team on the front platform (I do not like to call it an altar) and right behind us is
a huge screen, yesterday after singing our praise and worship songs, we were shown a movie clip of a
feature that would be shown last night at 6pm. The clip made me sick!
It looked like the dukes of hazard/cannonball run, And after the clip, the narrating voice assured us that it was threaded with a message of hope and salvation....
These kinds of "hope and salvation eye pleasers" are just what this Rev Abel speaks of in this dissertation
of seeds. They are a gospel message that pleases and speaks to the flesh and they really do bring me down.

I just know that Jesus wants us to desire the pure milk of the word, that we may grow.

Thanks for sharing this Miki.

In Christ,
Chris

So when we lay down the things that beset us (sin and stings and strings) we can carry the weight of his presence without carrying anything else that will smudge or infect the body with our weakness.

The reason l bring this up and belabour the point is the importance the Lord has shown me and has continued to show me concerning dealing with certain issues. He told me to Shake out my shoes. In order that l wouldn't have to shake off the dust. This is painfully necessary. Some of that has happened on this forum but mostly this will happen in our personal lives and churches if we will let it.

This was a prerequisite...a condition of details he requires us to participate in.

If we reject this we will stew in a stupor until we're once again around the mountain of his purpose for our lives. I've lived this as a witness.

Many of you are going along with baggage filled with hurts..... fermenting and fomenting....

Lay it down.

Open the the suitcase and spend time there. I promise you this is necessary.

I don't hold grudges but deal with things. It enables me to go forward in truth and raise clean hands.
I do this not out my own volition but in answer to the Lords condition and admonition.

I also have been learning to think it through in honesty and not back away even if it's hard. I keep thinking each day that l don't know if l should come back...but here l am. I see good fruit in my life from it. I hope you see it in your life as well.
