Welllll...let us fast forward a bit. As of tomorrow, I have a pay raise and a MUCH better position..same shift, though. Oh, it gets interesting, folks. Back in the year 2000, I worked in a wharehouse as a drexel swing-reach operator and I absolutely loved it. How much? To put it one way, I worked through breaks often and that not because we were very busy, but the time went by so fast I was not even aware that it was time to take that break. I was always the last one to punch out for lunch and the first one to get back on the machine after wolfing down lunch and puffing that cancer stick-- bad habit, I know
So, here I am...a low-level temp doing grunt work and it just so happens that a guy in the wharehouse just quit and they needed someone with lift truck experience. Talk about being at the right place in the right time, Amen?
I have learned some lessons in all this. Firstly, the Lord rewards discipline. If he leads us to do something we HATE doing and we do it because we are submitting to Him, rewards often await us. I submitted to His will and took a first shift job, knowing full well I don't do mornings so well. The nature of the work was repeatative and boring as well. I stuck with it and the circumstances changed-- to better pay and much better work.
Being without work for so long taught me to appreciate what I had when I finally found a job as a general laborer through a temp agency. Apparently this experience will prove helpful upon obtaining a career as a recording engineer (have to start from the very bottom-- part-time nights and weekends until I get enough experience. I'll have to keep my day job to pay the rent lol.) My new position is a permanent one, so I can cound on still having this job when I complete my apprenticeship (to be a recording engineer).
See, one day I got serious with God and asked Him what he wanted me to do career-wise, seeing as how I've been in and out of college and never able to see things through. He asked me in my heart what my passion was. It is music. I have a whole studio setup at home...I've taught myself how to play seven different instruments, learned how to mix and master, learned how to properly operate just about any equipment in a recording studio...It was so obvious all along. Why not get paid for that?
Well, a college degree really does not help in obtaining this line of work. Those who get jobs as recording engineers are those with the talent for it and EXPERIENCE. The best way to obtain documentable experience is through an apprenticeship program. It turned out that I am going to have to pay for that because financial aid is not available for this particular program...sooooo....I needed a job that offered decent hours.
I asked God "well, if this is your will for me, then why havent I been able to obtain a job yet?" Apparently, He was waiting until just the right time...to land me a job that not only paid good, but was FITTING for me and my nature. This job also offers overtime...perfect for saving up that money for the schooling. Ahh yes...Yahweh knows best
Well, everything is slowly starting to fall into place. Praise the Lord for that!
