I've been asked recently about something concerning GOD'S (MMMC) justice.
I was asked, "why was it that Lot's incestous daughters lived after committing drunk incest with their father, when their mother was killed?"
I know why Lot's wife was killed and i have no problem with that. But, did GOD (MMMC) actually frown upon what Lot's daughters did? If not, why not? and if so, where they punished?

That is such an interesting question.

Keep in mind the commandment about the Sabbath, namely 'I will visit the iniquity of the fathers on the sons of the third and of the fourth generation of those that hate me.'

First, who was Lot? Lot came from Haran. Haran was Abram's brother.

Three generations back from Lot was Terah.

Before Terah was Nahor. Nahor came from Serug.

1. Serug - 'to entwine, wrap together.'
2. Nahor - 'nostrils, snorting.'
3. Terah - ?
4. Lot - 'veil, covering.'

I'm at Gen. 19 now. 'And there came two angels to Sodom at even . . .'

In verse 2, Lot asked these angels to come into his house, but the angels said 'No, we'll stay in the street.' In verse 3, Lot pleaded with the angels and made them a feast, so they came in. Note they were in his house and before they had retired from their eating, the men of Sodom surrounded the house and said 'Where are these men? Bring them out here so we can know them.' (NO SEXUAL CONNOTATION WITH THE WORD KNOW)
Starting at verse 8: 'Behold now, I have two daughters that have not known man.' (THE WORD KNOWN IS THE SAME WORD AS KNOW - THERE IS NO SEXUAL CONNOTATION)
Probably where the definition of the word Lot came from which is 'veil, covering.' He was covering for these angels.
Go to verse 14 - 'And Lot went out, and spake unto his sons-in-law, which married his daughters. . . ' (? go back to verse 8)
We don't know anything about how many daughters Lot had, but it might have been more than 4.
The bible is very hard to comprehend.
In verse 14, Lot told the sons-in-law to leave because the Lord was going to destroy the city. The sons-in-law thought that Lot was joking, so Lot left them behind and he took his wife and two daughters.
A very complicated story.
In verse 29 - 'And it came to pass, when God destroyed the cities of the plain . . .'
Sodom and Gomorrah were destroyed by volcanoes. Everything and everybody was destroyed in the plain except Zoar where Lot was. For some reason Lot became afraid of dwelling in Zoar so he took his daughters to a mountain cave and in that cave the eldest daughter came up with a plan to preserve the seed of Lot. Well, the eldest did and then the younger and that is where we are now.

Lot's daughters sons were Moab who was leader of the Moabites and Ben-ammi leader of the Ammonites.

In I Samuel 11:11, Saul slew the Ammonites.

Moab is one of the reasons or the reason for the Holocaust.

Moab saw what the sons of Israel had done to the Amorites.

Num 22:4 And Moab said unto the elders of Midian, Now shall this company (the children of Israel and there were only 72) lick up all that are round about us, as the ox licketh up the grass of the field. And Balak the son of Zippor was king of the Moabites at that time.

Num 22:5 He sent messengers therefore unto Balaam the son of Beor to Pethor, which is by the river of the land of the children of his people, to call him, saying, Behold, there is a people come out from Egypt: behold, they cover the face of the earth, and they abide over against me:

Num 22:6 Come now therefore, I pray thee, curse me this people; for they are too mighty for me: peradventure I shall prevail, that we may smite them, and that I may drive them out of the land: for I know that he whom thou blessest is blessed, and he whom thou cursest is cursed.

Num 22:7 And the elders of Moab and the elders of Midian departed with the REWARDS OF DIVINATION in their hand; and they came unto Balaam, and spoke unto him the words of Balak.

Remember what the prophet said:

Mat 2:15 And was there until the death of Herod: that it might be fulfilled which was spoken of the Lord by the prophet, saying, Out of Egypt have I called my son.

The prophet was speaking of the son Israel (Jacob).

Gen 46:27 And the sons of Joseph, which were born him in Egypt, were two souls: all the souls of the house of Jacob, which came into Egypt, were threescore and ten.

Like I said, that is a wonderful question and the answer just goes on and on . . . But, you have to understand history.

gregg, you are wrong on this i think...the work know does have sexual overtones...the men of sodom want to know the men in lotts house. Lott says dont do this wicked thing...he offers his daughters...they are virgins....the men of the city dont want them, they want the men...that is where we get the term sodomize.

of course God frowned on the daughters acts. But he frowns on all sin and we are not immediatly punished. Lotts wife was due to the specific warning and the type of judgement that was happening...

God did not frown on the incest between Lot and his daughters.
one of the daughters had a son which brought forth the Moabites.
Later Ruth, who was a moabite, married a man called Boaz and had a son called Obed (Ruth 4:13).
Obed becomes the grandfather of King David of Israel.
which falls in the blood line of Jesus Christ.

you have to look at the overall plan of God.
This was in His plan.

there are more reasons why He allowed this to happen but not sure if you want more info.

God bless smile.gif

Thankyou everyone for you're answers.

I just remembered also that Lot came before GOD (MMMC) outlawed incest.
Maybe people viewed carrying on the family-line as more important than moral correctness.
Anyhow, thanks once again.

MMMC - Hmmm sounds very Islamish.

A lot of poppycock to suggest that God didnt frown on this act by Lots daughters.
Sex outside of marriage has always been outlawed since the days of Adam and Eve. Do we think there was no law before Moses? How then could it be said that "the men of Sodom were wicked and exceedinly sinful"?

Lot was complicit in this act to some extent because he had not taught his daughters their moral duties and had allowed himself to get rolling drunk. Not only that he did it two nights running.

The excuse Lots daughters gave for doing this (ie. That there were no men for them) was absurd because they had just come from Zoar which they had left out of fear. They were probably afraid that God would rain down destruction upon that town as well.

Just because God delivers a matter of fact account of this event does not mean he has made no moral judgement regarding it. Do we think that every time some evil is described in the Bible that God has to sit us down like children and say "Now that's not very good is it?"

The whole affair was utterly sordid. Surely the Spirit of God tells us this. We have all been granted conversion and salvation as was Boaz and Ruth. Surely we can see that this does not mean that God sanctions every deed of our ancestors.

I think its a fair question why God spared the daughters and pillared the wife. The reason for this is that the wife looked back when she was expressly told not to and the daughters did not. Why do we have to over analyze things. If we want to understand why disobedience of a direct command from God is more serious than a sordid breaking of God's moral law then I'm afraid I cannot answer you. So let's be happy to say "I DON'T KNOW" instead of inventing fanciful ideas about how God views incest, drunkeness and adultery.

Samuel, incest was not wicked in the eyes of the Lord until Lev. 18:7 (the time of Moses). The incident of Lot occurred way before then.
we've discussed on a couple of reasons why God let this happen. Stick to scripture and look at the order of events that happened.
As you can see there is already a person trying express their opinion instead of solid scripture. If he thinks this story is odd then he has to open his bible and begin to read more stories in the OT. ha ha

Always remember that the bible is the word of God.

I hope I helped a little.

I think the point is that anyone... ANYONE can be redeemed. Ruth, you, me.

We act as though incest deserves more of a punishment than any other sin. We all deserve punishment. NONE of us deserve the grace of God.

Praise the LORD that the Bible is full of examples of redeemed men and women... because it gives ME hope.

The daughters of Lot couldn't find men of high enough birth or of the right culture.
There were plenty of ordinary men around.
