My daughter and new son in law are on their honeymoon in Hawaii. She just called and said that they are under a tsunami warning after an earthquake hit in Japan. Please pray for their safety!

A short time earlier, Japan's Meteorological Agency issued tsunami warnings and officials ordered coastal residents to flee to higher ground.

The agency said waves as high as 3.3-feet could hit the northeastern coast of Japan's northern island of Hokkaido around 2 p.m. (11 p.m. CST).

The quake struck around 1:24 p.m. about 310 miles east of the Etorofu islands between northern Japan and Russia, the agency said. There were no immediate report of injuries or damage from the quake.

Local authorities along Hokkaido's coast ordered residents living along the northern and eastern coasts of Japan's northern main island of Hokkaido to evacuate to higher ground.

Hideo Suzuki, a municipal official for the town of Rausu, said he had not observed any visible change of the sea level as of around 2 p.m., although the town has ordered all residents to evacuate.

The West Coast and Alaska Tsunami Warning Center also issued an alert for coastal areas of Alaska from Nikolski to Attu.

Tsunami waves—generated by earthquakes—are often barely noticeable in the ocean but can rise to great heights once they arrive at shore.

Tsunami Watch Canceled for Hawaii, Alaska's Aleutian Islands
Saturday, January 13, 2007

ANCHORAGE, Alaska — Tsunami advisories for Alaska and Hawaii were canceled Saturday after officials determined waves from a powerful earthquake in the northern Pacific were too small to pose a threat.

A tsunami of less than 4 inches (10 centimeters) was recorded Friday night at Shemya, Alaska, at the western end of the Aleutians, the National Weather Service said.

Thank you for your prayers Dani. I knew my little intercessor would be there for me. You know it was really just Him and I last night. I told Him that I had no control over the wind and the waves but that He did. I just finally laid the kids at His feet and went peacefully off to La La Land! When I woke up early this morning I knew everything was fine before I even got up and checked the news. Anyway I appreicate your prayers, I know I can always count on you!

Love ya,

Val
