Gen 32:24 And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day. Gen 32:25 And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. Gen 32:26 And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh. And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me. Gen 32:27 And he said unto him, What [is] thy name? And he said, Jacob. Gen 32:28 And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed. Gen 32:29 And Jacob asked [him], and said, Tell [me], I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore [is] it [that] thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there. Gen 32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved. Gen 32:31 And as he passed over Penuel the sun rose upon him, and he halted upon his thigh. Gen 32:32 Therefore the children of Israel eat not [of] the sinew which shrank, which [is] upon the hollow of the thigh, unto this day: because he touched the hollow of Jacob's thigh in the sinew that shrank.

You can wrestle with God and come away limping but He will bless you. I think sometimes I/we are wrestling with God and thinking it is the devil we are fighting...

Isa 50:10 Who [is] among you that feareth the LORD, that obeyeth the voice of his servant, that walketh [in] darkness, and hath no light? let him trust in the name of the LORD, and stay upon his God. Isa 50:11 Behold, all ye that kindle a fire, that compass [yourselves] about with sparks: walk in the light of your fire, and in the sparks [that] ye have kindled. This shall ye have of mine hand; ye shall lie down in sorrow.

Most of our trials are God initiated...All of our trials are allowed by God. That is why we are supposed to rejoice in them. Because they will bring us to a new place.

I see also this wrestling episode as a ways to "trick" Satan, as to make him think that Jacob is not preferred after all, and that he is not the "child of the promise"... Turns out Jacob was, but did Satan really know? laugh.gif
