Full Version: If Thou Continue In His Goodness

Rom 11:22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in [his] goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.

Understanding depends on what it means to "continue in His goodness." If it means to just believe in all He has done on the cross, (believe and receive) or if it means to continue in a form of obedience which exemplifies discipleship in an unfailing unflinching faith.

Rom 14:4 Who art thou that judgest another man's servant? to his own master he standeth or falleth. Yea, he shall be holden up: for God is able to make him stand.

Jud 1:24 Now unto him that is able to keep you from falling, and to present [you] faultless before the presence of his glory with exceeding joy, Jud 1:25 To the only wise God our Saviour, [be] glory and majesty, dominion and power, both now and ever. Amen.

I suggest it means being attached to the true vine. Joh 15:6 If a man abide not in me, he is cast forth as a branch, and is withered; and men gather them, and cast [them] into the fire, and they are burned.

The above then becomes ours. (God is able to make him stand;him that is able to keep you from falling)

I've fallen...

to my knees.

Don't worry if the enemy clips you now and then. God will use it. Believe and get back up and get in the game. He's holding your place in the line up. Remember, it's a team effort. blush.gif

Remember, it's a team effort

Interesting comment. Of course one can find scriptures which relate to that, and yet at the end of the day it is also "every man for himself." For there is no corporate salvation...God has no grandchildren. I see few folks rehearsing how they will man the ramparts of any one individuals sin disease. Jam 5:19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; Jam 5:20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins.

I have decidedly noticed over nearly a decade of decadence online that few want to hear the truth except if it matches their conceptualization of it. Then accolades and kudos come. Elsewise it is "coffee break's over...heads down you nerd."

Rom 12:9 [Let] love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good. Rom 12:10 [Be] kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another; Rom 12:11 Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord; Rom 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer; Rom 12:13 Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality. Rom 12:14 Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not. Rom 12:15 Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.Rom 12:16 [Be] of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits. Rom 12:17 Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men. Rom 12:18 If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. Rom 12:19 Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but [rather] give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance [is] mine; I will repay, saith the Lord. Rom 12:20 Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head. Rom 12:21 Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.

I've had someone man the ramparts for me.... You're right. They are few but they are there.
I pray God lead you to that good fortune.

And as far as the team... I follow the leader.

Lots of people mess up but we stay in the race anyway.

Intersting comment. I follow the leader. I had a word once which said, "Lead them but follow me." Christians are supposed to be able to both lead and to follow. Not going out ahead of God, but somehow doing what He says do.

Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.

I have likened it to being like one of those trains with about four locamotives pulling it. The Lord is the lead engine and we Christians have the auxiliary or reserve power to pull along behind. The additional engines are the ministry and pull in conjunction with the lead engine, applying full power when needed. Idling at times also.

I originally made a typo here and wrote "idling at tomes" (fixed that) but I looked up "tomes" and it is this...One of the books in a work of several volumes. A book, especially a large or scholarly one. Kinda fits I think. Maybe a Holy Ghost "aside," I don't know.

We (the train of cars) are on a track and so we cannot get ahead of that first locomotive. The weight of the cars behind is dependent on many things, but they are also connected to the head. Even the very last car must come along unless the coupler is decoupled. The train rolls well, but if only one car gets a hot box ( a condition of an axle bearing overheating) the whole thing must stop for repair. ( or be derailed) Head included. I think it is why the process has gone on for ever almost, because there is always another siding to be pulled into while repairs are facilitated on car after car. The measure of the stature of Christ must be made functional in order that there be no more cars causing the train to come to a standstill. A rough anaology, not well thought out and in need of tweaking I am sure. I think it is our job as quasi conductors to ensure a smooth rolling train. I think our prayers are like the man in the caboose radioing the man in the Head of the train to signify any eventualities which need to be addressed.

I like it. But l also like the football team because it adds diversity and uniquess to the idividual players. ie each having a position to play.

But are we to be competitive?
Miki
Of course not. If Christians are wordly they will compete with their own team mates. If they are in the Spirit they will remember who the enemy really is and listen to the coaches call.

We have a unique intermixing of good and evil I think.

I see the wheat and tares plainly in this word. For they truly live together like conjoined twins having a common head but two different hearts.

Good thing there is always two angels for ever fallen angel.

If we continue in godliness
If we do what is right according to the scriptures.

Had to think about that a minute, but yes...1/3 fell so 2/3 remain for God and us.
Miki
Maybe ferv...maybe what you said about conjoined heads...

Jacob and Esau...same ovary different egg. He hated Esau because he for knew what he would do. Because in one hand he holds the begining and in the other the end.

Banana...to continue in Godliness is to continue in Love. I think l'll throw Banana Cream tongue.gif 1dsz5h2.gif
