I've had someone
man the ramparts for me.... You're right. They are few but they are there.
I pray God lead you to that good fortune.
And as far as the team... I follow the leader.
Lots of people mess up but we stay in the race anyway.
Intersting comment.
I follow the leader. I had a word once which said, "Lead them but follow me." Christians are supposed to be able to both lead and to follow. Not going out ahead of God, but somehow doing what He says do.
Heb 5:12 For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which [be] the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. Heb 5:13 For every one that useth milk [is] unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe. Heb 5:14 But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, [even] those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
I have likened it to being like one of those trains with about four locamotives pulling it. The Lord is the lead engine and we Christians have the auxiliary or reserve power to pull along behind. The additional engines are the ministry and pull in conjunction with the lead engine, applying full power when needed. Idling at times also.
I originally made a typo here and wrote "idling at tomes" (fixed that) but I looked up "tomes" and it is this...One of the books in a work of several volumes. A book, especially a large or scholarly one. Kinda fits I think. Maybe a Holy Ghost "aside," I don't know.
We (the train of cars) are on a track and so we cannot get ahead of that first locomotive. The weight of the cars behind is dependent on many things, but they are also connected to the head. Even the very last car must come along unless the coupler is decoupled. The train rolls well, but if only one car gets a hot box ( a condition of an axle bearing overheating) the whole thing must stop for repair. ( or be derailed) Head included. I think it is why the process has gone on for ever almost, because there is always another siding to be pulled into while repairs are facilitated on car after car. The measure of the stature of Christ must be made functional in order that there be no more cars causing the train to come to a standstill. A rough anaology, not well thought out and in need of tweaking I am sure. I think it is our job as quasi conductors to ensure a smooth rolling train. I think our prayers are like the man in the caboose radioing the man in the Head of the train to signify any eventualities which need to be addressed.
