Jesus repeatedly told His disciples He would die and rise. He also repeatedly told them it would be the 3rd day. Why the 3rd day? Had He chosen to, He could have risen the 2nd day or the 4th day or whatever day He wanted.

In my opinion, He used the 3rd day as prophecy. He was showing us that His body the church would rise on the morning of the 3rd day just as His physical body did.

I believe He is showing us that the Church will be resurrected and raptured on the morning of the 3rd millennial day after the beginning of the Church age that started at Pentecost. This would mean the Church age will last 2 days (2,000 years) starting from Pentecost, then the resurrection of the body of Christ - the Church will take place after that 3rd day starts.

The way people measure time the 3rd millennium has already started because they measure time from when Christ was born. If this prophecy is true, God is measuring time from when the Church age started about 1,970 years ago at Pentecost about 33 - 34 A.D.

The marriage at Cana when Jesus turned water to wine took place on the 3rd day. I believe this is a similar prophecy.

The Old Testament is filled with references to the 3rd day. Run the refs and check them out and see if you agree that they are prophecy of a resurrection on the 3rd day!

The boldest example is Hosea 6:2
'After two days He will revive us. On the THIRD DAY He will raise us up..'

I have attached a detailed document for your exploration of this wonderful prophecy for our times!

THE MORNING OF THE THIRD DAY

Why did Jesus rise from the dead on the morning of the THIRD DAY?

We know ‘why’ He rose from the dead. Why the THIRD DAY? Why not the second day or the fourth day or some other day? There is a reason. It was by God’s design. It is prophecy about the future of His Church. He is using the rising of the body of Christ on the morning of the THIRD DAY to show us that His body the Church will rise on the morning of the THIRD DAY. The Church age began at Pentecost and will last for 2 days. Each ‘day’ will be 1,000 years long. Then the Church, the body of Christ, will be resurrected and raptured early in the morning on the THIRD DAY. The third day will also last for 1,000 years. It will be known as the Lord’s Day. During that ‘day’ Christians will ‘rule and reign with Christ for a thousand years’ (Rev. 20:4,6).

How do we know this? Because God shows His ‘THIRD DAY’ plan to us by many examples and prophecies in the Bible. Let’s begin with prophecy made by Jesus about the ‘THIRD DAY’.

In Matthew chapter 16, Jesus asked His disciples who they thought He was? Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” Vs 16. Jesus then prophesied and revealed the mystery of His Church, saying, “..on this rock I will build My Church...”. In other places in the New Testament, Jesus is revealed to us as the chief corner stone (rock) or foundation stone (rock) of the Church. Jesus was saying, “On this rock (Myself - the Christ, the Son of the living God) I will build My Church.”

Then Jesus told them two things that must have sounded very strange to them after hearing this wonderful prophecy about the Church. First, “...He commanded His disciples that they should tell no one that He was the Christ (Messiah)” Vs 20.
Then the strangest of all, that He would “be killed, and be raised the THIRD DAY.”
They must have thought, How can He set up His Kingdom if we do not tell people who He is and if He is going to be killed?

We know that the first meaning to this prophecy was that Jesus Himself would be killed and raised to life on the third day. The second meaning is that the same thing would happen to His Church. Death will put His Church in the grave for two days (2,000 years) then the Church (the body of Christ) will be raised to life eternal on the morning of the THIRD DAY. Praise God! This is why immediately after telling them about the Church Jesus told them He would die and be raised up the THIRD DAY. He was showing them, and us, what would happen to the Church He had just told them about.

The Bible says, ‘...with the Lord one day is as a thousand years...’ II Peter 3:8. Each day the body of Christ was in the grave represents 1,000 years. The body of Christ was in the grave two days then He was resurrected. The Church age will last 2,000 years ( two 1,000 year days) then all the members of His body the Church who died during those 2,000 years will be resurrected. Those who are still alive will be raptured ‘caught away’, ‘translated’, ‘changed’.

Jesus repeated the prophecy of rising the THIRD DAY to His disciples many times.
It is recorded in Matthew, Mark and Luke. In fact, it was common knowledge. After His resurrection, Jesus appeared to Cleopas and another disciple as they were on the way to Emmaus. They did not recognize Jesus. In their conversation with Him they said, “...today is the THIRD DAY since these things happened.” Luke 24:21. The context shows they knew the prophecy that He was to rise the third day. Even the enemies of Christ knew the prophecy about the THIRD DAY. Remember how they went to Pilate and asked for guards to be posted at the tomb? They said to Pilate, “Sir, we remember, while He was still alive, how that deceiver said, After three days I will rise.” Mt. 27:63.

God gives us this prophecy about the Third Day more than once in the New Testament. There is the example of Christ rising on the third day. There is also the prophecy that Christ spoke, ‘Destroy this temple and in THREE DAYS I will raise it up.’ We know that He spoke of His death and resurrection on the third day. It is also prophecy about the future of His body the church. The Bible tells us that the Church (believers) are the temple of God. Death has been ‘destroying’ the temple of God for almost 2,000 years but on the Third Day Christ will ‘raise it up’!

The wedding at Cana is another example of the Third Day prophecy in the New Testament. John 2:1 says, ‘On the THIRD DAY there was a wedding in Cana...’.
This is when Jesus turned the water into wine. The Church is the bride of Christ.
Her wedding will take place on the Third Day.

The Old Testament contains many examples of the Third Day prophecy.

Hear the prophet Hosea: “After two days He will revive us. On the THIRD DAY He will raise us up, that we may live in His sight”. Hosea 6:2

Remember the story of Abraham offering up his son Isaac? Genesis 22:4 says, “Then on THE THIRD DAY Abraham lifted up his eyes and saw the place afar off.”
It was on the third day that Abraham sacrificed Isaac and that Isaac was resurrected in a figurative sense. Abraham had already accepted the death of Isaac in his heart and was willing to sacrifice him. God raised up Isaac off the altar of sacrifice and provided a substitute.

Exodus chapter 19 tells us the Lord descended on Mount Sinai to give the Law. It was on the THIRD DAY!
“Then it came to pass on THE THIRD DAY....”. Vs 16.
“For on the THIRD DAY the Lord will come down...” Vs 11
“When the trumpet sounds long...” Vs 13
“the sound of the trumpet was very loud..” Vs 16

Paul tells us that “the Lord Himself shall DESCEND from heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, with the TRUMPET of God. And the dead in Christ will rise.....”. The way that God came and gave the Law was an example (prophecy) of the way He will return on the THIRD DAY to raise the Church.

King Hezekiah was healed and allowed to live longer by the Lord. The Lord told him, “I have heard your prayer. I have seen your tears; surely I will heal you. On THE THIRD DAY you shall GO UP to the house of the Lord.” 2 Kings 20:5. The Church will be resurrected (healed) on the third day, and live longer (eternally) and GO UP to the house of the Lord (in heaven) just like King Hezekiah!

There are references to THE THIRD DAY in the lives of Jacob, David and Ester that may also be examples for us. As we read the Bible and come to the phrase ‘the third day’ we should look at it carefully. God is trying to show us something!

It is very important to understand when the Church age began. Some think the Church age began when Jesus was born. They expected the Church age to end 2,000 years later in the year 2,000 AD and for the resurrection and rapture to take place then.
Some had said 1988 would be the year. It was foolish of them to predict an exact time because Jesus says that no man or angel knows the day or hour (Matthew 24:36). They were wrong in general because they did not understand when the Church age began and the ‘Third Day’ prophecy God gives us about it. The Church age did not begin when Jesus was born. The Church age began at Pentecost.

Remember, Christ told Peter and the others, ‘I WILL build my church...’. This was future tense. He did not say, ‘I AM building my church’ (present tense). He did not say, ‘I HAVE built my church’ (past tense). Jesus was about 30 years of age when He began His ministry (Luke 3:23). When He revealed the mystery of the Church to His disciples, the Church had not begun yet. So when did the Church begin? After His resurrection, Jesus told His followers to wait at Jerusalem and He would send His Spirit. The Holy Spirit of Jesus came to live in His body the Church on the day of Pentecost. That started the ticking of the clock for the Church age to last 2,000 years. By the way we measure time today we would say that Pentecost took place about 34 AD because it is estimated that Jesus was about 33 or 34 when He died and rose again. Pentecost came soon after that.

We base our calendar today on when Christ was born. If we based our calendar on when Pentecost took place then we would say that Pentecost took place in the year zero. Then instead of this being the year 2003 it would be about the year 1970. This would mean it has been about 1,970 years since Pentecost. So there are about 30 years left in the ‘second day’ of the Church age.

If the Church age started in 34 AD then it will end after 2 days (2,000 years) sometime around 2034 AD. Then the third day will begin. Then within the ‘early’ years of that new 1,000 year day the Church (the body of Christ) will be resurrected and raptured.

There are reasons why we can not know the exact time.

One reason is because man has made mistakes in our calendar. We are told that our calendar today is off by perhaps 4 to 7 years because of mistakes in the past. So our calendar today is an ‘estimate’ of how long it has been since Jesus was born. We do not know exactly.

Another reason is because we do not know exactly what time of the morning that Jesus was resurrected. We know it was early because some of His followers came “very early in the morning...” (Mark 16:2) and they found His tomb empty. We do not know if our Lord’s resurrection took place exactly at the start of the third day or if it was a few hours later. All we know is it was ‘early’. Even 10 years into a 1,000 year day could be considered ‘early’. So the resurrection and rapture of the Church could take place a few years into the third day.

The Bible tells us that God shows His prophets what He is going to do before he does it. If the people had understood the prophecies about Christ then they would not have crucified the Lord of Glory! Today, we need to understand what God is showing us about the future. The Bible says, “Where there is no vision the people perish”. Proverbs 29:18. Vision means to see. It means for us to see what God reveals to us.

Why is this important to us? Sometimes it seems like the world is out of control. It may even seem like our own lives are out of control at times. But God is in control. He has a plan, a very detailed plan, and His plan is unfolding just as He wills it. He has revealed much about his plan to us in the Bible. He wants us to know and understand the prophecies He has given us. They are for our comfort! When Paul writes about the Lord’s return he says, “comfort one another with these words.” I Thes 4:18.

Pray and study these prophecies. Ask God to show you if these things are true. God says, “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God: because many false prophets have gone out into the world.” I John 4:1. He says also in I Thessalonians 5:19-20 , “Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things...” So “test” this revelation of the meaning of the Third Day by prayer, study of the verses in context and compared to other scriptures.

When Peter confessed, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God” then Jesus said, “Blessed are you , Simon Bar-Jonah, for flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but My Father who is in heaven.” It is the Father who shows us the meaning of His prophecies. May you be blessed!

If you are not sure that you are part of this body of Christ that will be raised on the morning of the Third Day then the Spirit (Jesus) and the Bride (the Church) invite you to come!

Exactly! Is it possible the "Church age" ends on the anniversary of it's birth(Penecost)? See Topic 490-430=60 in Bible Prophecy.

If 1 day is 1000 years, then we are in the third day. Joseph and his coat of many colours, in prison for 2 years, forsaken.
dennis mann
360 days = 1 prophetic year
about 365.25 days = 1 gregorian year

So, if the 2000 years is prophetic years,

2000 prophetic years = about 1971.2526 gregorian years

Dave Hunt says that Palm Sunday was Sunday April 6 32 AD. So, Passover Day would be Friday April 11 32AD. And Pentecost would be 50 days after Passover? May 31 32AD? (roughly).

Add another 1971.2526 gregorian years: It comes to (very roughly) September 3 2003 AD.

I'm very sorry to say: We've missed the Rapture, folks. (just joking). And of course, I can't guarantee that my theory is right.

To Pilgrim-Larry,
I certainly didn't mean to criticize your post. I thought your post was great! Thank you very much. Do you have any more for us?

I was just curious to see how it would work with prophetic years. I hope that Jesus won't get angry with me for calculating dates.

If you're saying that 2 years (2000) are compared to Joseph in prison for 2 years then it's not us but Israel.

There will be alot of time and date setting in these times and for good reason. The reason is that the Lord is near to coming for His own. We may not know the day or the hour, but that only eliminates plus or minus a 24 hour period if we take the Bible literally, and I do. We can discern the signs of the times or as Chuck Misler puts it, "the times of the signs". We are in the morning of the third day and in the generation that saw Israel reborn in the land, 1948. That remark came directly from Jesus. Two places in the Bible reference a generation to be 70 years. 360 day years will bring us to a drop dead year of 2017. Thats for a physical return to rule the kingdom age from Jerusalem. You need to subtract 2520 days or 7 years from 2017 for the time we call the great tribulation. So now we have 2010 as a drop dead year for the rapture of the church, if you believe in pre-trib as I do. But, Jesus did not say it would be at the very second of the end of the generation when He would physically return, so, obviously He can come at any time from this second, as He said. He also said that Israel (corporately not individually) would be blinded in part until... the fullness of the gentiles be come in (the church). So there is at least a tie into the church being raptured and Israel in large degree beginning to have their eyes opened at the beginning and during the tribulation. Whenever the time of our rapture is we know it will be within a short number of years (praise God). No matter how you calculate it or read the signs we are close! Whether you like it or not.

Blessings
Miki

Or maybe both. I was thinking about what you said...the water to wine...I never noticed that before.

The marriage at Cana when Jesus turned water to wine took place on the 3rd day. I believe this is a similar prophecy.
Why do you say 3rd day here?

Ok Larry, Thanks. I'm following along a little better now.

This means that Jesus did this miracle on the third day of his ministry after he was baptised. I've always wondered about the wedding being his first miracle too and water into wine... blush.gif

Anyway...I went to the previous chapter and see what happened on the first day...

John crying repent and baptising with water.

Day two... Jesus baptised and there were 2 witnesses with John that saw it and followed him.

The third day the wedding and water into wine.

So we see it as a possible similitude to Jesus coming again...or our going..I'll have to pray for God to open my eyes to the fullness of it.

THE MORNING OF THE THIRD DAY

Why did Jesus rise from the dead on the morning of the THIRD DAY?

We know ‘why’ He rose from the dead. Why the THIRD DAY? Why not the second day or the fourth day or Larrysome other day? There is a reason. It was by God’s design. It is prophecy about the future of His Church. He is using the rising of the body of Christ on the morning of the THIRD DAY to show us that His body the Church will rise on the morning of the THIRD DAY. Brother Larry, while you quoted several Old Testament 3rd day verses to back up your line of reasoning there are several others that would refute it. this is from another site were the issue of 3rd Day church was being discussed so these are not my words but I agree with what he is saying: *

Is this biblical?

I do believe in patterns in the Bible and at first was intrigued by the "third day" idea. However, the "third day theme" of blessing isn't biblically consistent with the use of the phrase throughout Scripture. Because it isn't, in order to maintain their distinction and emphasis, third day churches must read into the text more than they read out of it. This is a serious problem and should be abandoned by the Christian church. Compare the following verses with those above as proof that "third day" scriptures are not always about God blessing the church.

*

Gen. 34:25, "And it came to pass on the third day, when they were sore, that two of the sons of Jacob, Simeon and Levi, Dinah's brethren, took each man his sword, and came upon the city boldly, and slew all the males."
*

Gen. 40:20, "And it came to pass the third day, [which was] Pharaoh's birthday, that he made a feast unto all his servants: and he lifted up the head of the chief butler and of the chief baker among his servants."

Lev. 7:18, "And if [any] of the flesh of the sacrifice of his peace offerings be eaten at all on the third day, it shall not be accepted, neither shall it be imputed unto him that offereth it: it shall be an abomination, and the soul that eateth of it shall bear his iniquity."

Larry you gave this quote from Peter's epistles I did not put the whole quote:

QUOTE
The Bible says, ‘...with the Lord one day is as a thousand years...’ II Peter 3:8. Each day the body of Christ was in the grave represents 1,000 years.

This does not say one day is a thousand years but as a thousand years. Refering to the fact that God does not view time the same way we do, or to express the fact that God is above time. Conisider "God owns the cattle on a thousand hills" is that to be taken literally or symbolically? We know God owns the cattle on all the hills, the earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof. So although I know where your coming from I don't believe your use of numbers validates your point.

Larry & Miki

It is interesting that in Matthew's, Mark's, and Luke's accounts that after Jesus' baptism by John He was driven immediately into the wilderness for 40 days to be tempted by the devil. And even in John's Gospel we see the wilderness testing before the wedding feast (Jn. 4:1-13), so perhaps that line of reasoning needs to be rethought just a little. Between Jesus' basptism by John and the water into wine was a tad over 3days!
