Greetings.

Short prayer first. Lord in heaven guide the discussion on this thread so that your Holy Spirit will give a deeper understanding in things to all those that seek to love you. In your name, dear Christ, Amen.

Now, what is evil? And I ask this question for it is plainly written in the Old Testament the following scripture

Exodus 32:14
And the Lord repented of the evil which he thought to do unto his people.

The Lord repented of evil? Whoa.

Well, if you think about it the is no evil in the Lord, though he does make the good and the evil

Isaiah 45:7
I form the light, and create darkness: I make peace, and create evil: I the Lord do all these things.

and God is good; Christ even said so.

Mark 10:18
And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.

Then what is the evil that the Lord repents of? If you read all of Exodus 32, the Lord was about to bring destruction on the people of Israel for worshipping an idol. God said to Moses that he wanted to destroy the people of Israel but Moses talks him out of it and the Lord repents. "Evil" here is associated with destruction.

Is this consistent with many beliefs of evil? Yes. Many believe the devil is evil (at least by a single letter "d"), and he to does destroy. The book of Job gives witness to this as the devil brings destruction around Job's life trying to get Job to curse God (that's really evil), but the Lord wins out and Job is restored.

What else?

ohn 10:10
The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly.

The thief here is "evil" as it destroys.

In summary, this short lesson illustrates the meaning of evil, that it means "destruction." God can destroy and so can the devil, but God is good for he is good, and God's reason to destroy is out of God's righteousness, where as the devil's reason to destroy is to only try to bring a curse against God.

But God does so much more; he is the restorer of life.

John 11:25
Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:

Hey Bob....remember your dad? I mean your earthly dad. 'member him?

'Member coming home from school and knowing you had to tell him....wondering if he would find out if you didn't....

Then there were the things you thought he might get upset about....not SURE...but knowing him.....

Those things are "evil". So don't. Not that you ever would.

Many of the threads in discussion now can be found in previous threads posted earlier.

This is one example.

So, I bump this up again to invite all in a civil discourse on the topic. Enjoy!

Love, HB
