How many hours was Christ on the cross?

I know it was 6 hrs..

6 days?

6000 yrs.?

The end of the last hour had to be the worst.

Hi Miki,
The Bible says that He was slain before the foundations of the world. For me, that is one of the most exquisite truths of all.
Much Love and Blessings to you

Hi Firewall,

And again in this passage God reveals to us a clue to the secret of time.
He created it all...Beginning to end and then stepped out of time to watch the great drama unfold... :-) In some ways it seems harsh, but l think we'll understand it all by and by...

Please excuse me while I vent some mind-bending philosophy biggrin.gif .

There are several theories on time, but personally I think God is completely outside of time. There is no past or future to God, because it would be nonsense to say something is before or after time. Yet we ourselves are prisoners of time and can't really comprehend the absence of it. But of course God is not limited by our cognitive skills wink.gif .

The important thing is what the Bible says about these things, and it says God is eternal. The question is whether eternal means timelessness or time without end. Since God never had a beginning it would be illogical to say he is a part of "time" because there is no starting point to begin the clock. But what about us? We had a beginning but will live forever. Is eternity for us equal to time without end, or will we also be outside of time as God is? Time is measured by the movement of planets and stars, so when these cease to exist does time disappear too? If not, how will it be measured? Does an endless sequence of events equal time or timelessness?

One view of human history is that God sees the whole thing like an exposed roll of film. This would explain how he can predict the future precisely and give visions of future events as though they already happened. It would also make sense of the statment "slain from the foundation of the world" since the future is a "done deal" from God's perspective. (Whether he actually sees the future or just knows what will happen is hotly debated). The problem then is what happens after human history. Does God see beyond that, and is it "time" or not?

Thank you, I feel better now. blink.gif

Time is factored into the equation by God .

Really we are eternal , but God has put us into a finite structure ..............

this is our learning process , our school ..........

without this , we might get fidgety and rebel against God , and accuse him of being a megalomaniac ..........

Solomon says that everything is meaningless ...........on one level he was talking to the exiled tribes ( who were 'condemned' by Solomon's behaviour ) , but on another he is talking about this earth .

Everything has a season on earth , but all these things will pass away ....................

The Jews have a saying ..................

' Everything will pass '
Simple
also , there is an interesting ' time conundrum ' in the Garden of Eden .

See if you can spot it .

It talks about the creation of man in the sixth day, then the seventh rest day (which we're still in), then it seems to go backwards and talk about the sixth day again.
Miki
Hi Crazy hay

We're still in the 6th day...On the cusp so to speak...The seventh day is the 1000 year millenium reign of rest when Jesus rules an reigns on earth.

"The millennium is a term which defines the reign of Christ on earth. It encompasses the 'thousand years' that God has allotted for Jesus and His Church to rule in this world.

The angel threw Satan into the Abyss, and shut the entrance and sealed it over him to make sure he would not deceive the nations again until the thousand years had passed. Then...I saw the souls of those...who had refused to worship the beast...they came to life, and reigned with Christ for a thousand years."

Your answer comes in Mark 15: 25 & 32-33. Jesus was on the cross for 6 hours. The miracle of the tomb can be found in John 20. Taking a closer look at vs 7; "And the napkin that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself." (KJV)

I wanted to share with you this miracle, which has not been talked about much, because it was not understood. The napkin laying by itself, represents Jewish customs.

In Jewish custom, if you were invited to eat with someone, and did not enjoy the meal or company/or was not treated properly at this hosts house, ie. getting your feet washed for example, you would fold your napkin and place it beside the plate as if You were never there. It was a sign to the host that you would not return to their home again.

Jesus' napkin, that was placed over his face, was a clue, left for the diciples, that he had conquered the grave and would not have to return there. He conquered the grave for any who believe on His name!

The significance of the 6 hours on the cross also relates to Noah's time. And the end times. I figured this out by the dates given in the Bible.

We are indeed in the 6th hour, 6000 year reign or the 6th week. The 7th will be after Christ returns and He establishes His Kingdom here.

I am totally amazed at the suffering Jesus took upon Himself, for all of us!

I just thought I'd give you some verses about his crucifixion...It's not about me, its about HIM. Are you broken for HIM?

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him, stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53: 3-5 (KJV)

" He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and judgement: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut out of the land of the living: for transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was there any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed,he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied:by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bear the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." Isaiah 53: 7-12 (KJV)

Thanks for recognizing what l was saying in my question tigger...

l felt stupid after l asked it. And that is an interesting thing about the napkin tradition...

Miki,Your welcome and thanks for noticing the Napkin Tradition. I think it is a relevent subject since it was impotant for John to mention it.

Napkin folded in Jesus Tomb

The cloth used to cover the face of dead body as per the manner of Jews in John 19 : 40 , 20:7 is referred to as Napkin but this is not the Napkin that is used on the dining table but just a small piece of cloth similar to Napkin. John 5:26 Death of Jesus Christ is not supper for Jesus but food for others to have life, John 6:35 Jesus said “ I am the bread of life he that cometh to me shall never hunger… “ Jesus is the bread of life and we have to eat it to have eternal life.(John 6:48-51)

John 17:4 Jesus has finished his work on the earth, Revelation 14:15 now he will come to gather the harvest and we have to eat the bread of life to have eternal life and if master has not finished the supper that is napkin is still folded how the servants can eat the bread to have life which is contrary to God’s will.

When we read bible or try to understand it or to study something practical look into the word and see what do scripture says about that in the whole scripture and try to read what God wants to say. God will reveal the truth, for God is Holy , Righteous God. Amos 3:7 says “Surely the Lord will do nothing but He reveals His secret unto His servants the prophets.” Genesis 18:17 says ” Lord said shall I hide from Abraham that thing which I do” The word of God is life John 1:1, 6:63 “The words that I speak unto you are spirit and they are life”. Even the disciples some times misunderstood what Jesus Said and Jesus has to explain the things to them, even the prophets when they saw vision like Daniel, John they asked God to reveal the truth and they have not gone after the customs to understand the meaning of it.

When we read scriptures :-
John 20:2 Mary tells the disciples that the body of Jesus was taken away out of the sepulture or tomb and she do not know where they have taken the body of Jesus.

On hearing Mary’s report John 20:2 Peter and John goes to the sepulture and 20:5,6,7 saw the linen clothes wrapped on the body of Jesus lying in the sepulture and the napkin a small piece of cloth unlike the full long cloth wrapped on the body , that was wrapped about the head not lying with long linen clothes but wrapped together in a place by itself i.e., little far away. The linen lying means lying in length wise and not put together where as napkin was wrapped does not mean folded but put in together in one place.

John here simply explains the picture/scene what he has seen in the sepulture it is not an exaggeration of the scene but he could not trace any other sign of the body of Jesus other than what disciple John has seen there.

Seeing the napkin and linen lying in the sepulture Peter and John believed what Mary had told them. Since they came to the sepulture to confirm what Mary had told them was true or not, in John 20:8 the disciples believed what Mary had told to them, John 20:9 for the disciples knew not or was not aware of the scripture or had any vision that Jesus must rise again from the dead.

So believing the fact that body of Jesus was taken away the disciples returned home John 20 :10.

John 20:11 to 17, But Mary was still waiting at the sepulture and crying then Jesus appeared unto her for she was sincerely waiting on the Lord Jesus and expecting some help to trace the body of Jesus.

John 20:18 Mary came and told about Jesus resurrection and that she has seen him and talked to him and so on.

John 20 :19 onwards we see, Same day at evening when the disciples were shut inside a room for fear of the Jews, Jesus appeared unto them , then they were glad and believed that Jesus is resurrected and he is alive ( the body of Jesus was not taken away by anyone ) . Disciples feared Jews and were shut in the room for believing that the body of Jesus was taken away by the Jews and they may also attack the disciples. Disciples without Jesus presence with them were really afraid for the disciples knew not or was not aware of the scripture or had any vision that Jesus must rise again from the dead at that time.

John 20 :24 onwards we see Thomas one of the disciples who has not seen the resurrected Jesus not believing the resurrection of Jesus till he saw resurrected Jesus personally.

But when the disciples saw resurrected Jesus and came to know that he is alive they are bold, and in chapter 21 we can see the disciples (who were afraid and shut in rooms earlier) has gone for fishing when they came to know that Jesus is resurrected.

The napkin has nothing to do with the second coming of Jesus Christ. In the scripture no were any reference is made about napkin with regard to the second coming of Jesus.

But Jesus will surely come again, for the word of God clearly proclaims it as it is written by the disciple John himself in John 21:22 that Jesus said he will come back. Acts 1:9 to 11, Zechariah 13:5-9, 12:10, Daniel 7:13, Revelation 1:7.

Jesus is life and the word that proceed out of God is life. When Jesus was taken up into heaven or when Jesus left the disciples from the earth, the disciples, angels , Holy Spirit witnessed it and the angels also told that Jesus will come back Acts 1:11.and the other verses of Jesus second coming were revealed to prophets by God and it is life so you can wait on God for his second coming
