Esther?
Good read.
It's only 10 chapters long.

It is the only book in the bible that doesn't mention the word God in any form.
Because of that it is "controversial" to some.

c-los,
I see you follow along pretty well with the writings of men who say that there is no mention of God, but when you say 'in any form' you are wrong. King Ahaseurus was written as one of the Elohiym, the family of God. The reason the king was named so was because of all that he could do in the judgement of his people, the Jews. Mordecai, the Jew, was father of Esther and she was the queen, the consort, of King Ahaseurus. Maybe he could be thought of as 'King of the Jews.'

C-los, If you look at the book of Esther, you have a beautiful picture of the tribulation.
Look at Esther as the Bride of Christ. The eunuch as the Holy Spirit, preparing the bride for the Bridegroom. The cleansing with myrrh ...it permeates the body with its lovely smell, the blood cleanses us.(Myrrh comes from a tree that have small red flowers like blood drops)
The King gets rid of the previous queen Vashti (Israel, who refused to come to him) and the new queen Esther takes her place. He offers her half his Kingdom (we are co-heirs with Christ)
See the beast enter the story (Haman) and see everybody bow before him, except Mordecai (the Church) Haman decides to kill Mordecai and Mordecai goes to Esther for help. The King (Jesus) gives permission for Esther and Mordecai to make war against all who come against them.
The queen lives through this, but many die in the war. Haman is hanged , the beast gets thrown in the pit.

The miracle of Purim took place during what was surely the darkest period in Jewish history up to that time. The first temple had been destroyed and the Land of Israel had been virtually wiped out of its Jews. Permissoin had been granted to beginbuilding the Second Temple - but then the work was halted by King Ahasuerus of Persia. And even while it was proceeding only over small number of Jews, barely 40, 000, had the courage to return.

Into such a scene came a Maman with his plan to exterminate the Jewish people. And he had the full support of the mightiest king in the world.

You are correct that the name of God does not appear in it at all because God's Presence was hidden throughtout. The story of Esther took place over a period of 9 years, and it reads like a string of coincidences. Precisely that is its miracle and its message, because the Book of Ester taught the people that God always hovers near His people even when He seems to have forsaken them, and it teaches that there are no coincidences in history.

when i say no mention of "God" i don't mean that He is not present in the book.
I mean the word "God" or any name He has is not written in the book. smile.gif

actually to politely correct your info.
King Ahaseurus was not Jewish.
Mordecai was a cousin of Esther. wub.gif

well...i'd have to pass on this thought because Mordecai and Esther would both be one. The Church is the bride of Christ. Your example shows they're both different.

Besides, Mordecai was trying to live a good lifestyle off Esther if she would be queen. Mordecai was being sneaky. That's why he entered her as a runner up to the Kings pagent for his next bride and he told her not to say anything about her being a Jew (Esther 2:10).
Mordecai knew that Jews weren't allowed to entered but he entered her anyways.
This info can really tangle up your analogy. wub.gif

Haman didn't have full support of the King.
Haman really exagerrated to the King that the Jews laws were different than the Kings so it was best to remove them (Esther 3:8). When you really look at it...Haman had a chip on his shoulder because Mordecai wouldn't bow to him.
The King was good at at winning a war but wasn't the best ruler and taking his own advice. We see that with Vashiti, we see that with his signing off to kill the Jews because Mordecai felt they should do so, and we see that with the king letting Esther and Mordecai create an order that Jews can defend themselves in order to "correct" his previous order.

Hey guys. This story is fresh in my head so this is why I can talk confidently about this.
Thank you guys! wub.gif wub.gif wub.gif

Yeah, a misread by me; I was so sure that I could find God in this book. I read Esther 9:29 and said aha! Esther was the daughter of Abihail and Mordecai. Nope. Anyway, that had nothing to do with it.

9:29 is written tlike this in KJV.
29 Then Esther the queen, the daughter of Abihail, and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority, to confirm this second letter of Purim

it's read like this:
29 Then Esther the queen (the daughter of Abihail) and Mordecai the Jew, wrote with all authority (they both wrote together), to confirm this second letter of Purim.

the family relationship is laid out earlier in Esther 2:
5 Now in Shushan the palace there was a certain Jew, whose name was Mordecai, the son of Jair, the son of Shimei, the son of Kish, a Benjamite; 6 Who had been carried away from Jerusalem with the captivity which had been carried away with Jeconiah king of Judah, whom Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon had carried away. 7 And he brought up Hadassah, that is, Esther, his uncle's daughter: for she had neither father nor mother, and the maid was fair and beautiful; whom Mordecai

they were cousins. He took in her cousin.
anyways...not a big deal but I'm just laying this out for others that decide to read this great little book. Nothing personal cuz that'll be silly. wub.gif wub.gif
