If I remember correctly, J. Vernon McGee (deceased) said on his radio program "There are over 100 similarities between Joseph and Jesus.

Both were favorites of their Father

Both were hated by their brethren

Their brethren bowed the knee to both

Their brethren feared both

Both went to Egypt

Both foretold the future

Both enjoyed success in everything they did.

Both were sold for a few pieces of silver

Their brethren decided to murder both

The Bible has no record of sin in Both

The Lord was with both

Both were accused of sin, but both were innocent

Both were filled with the Spirit of God

Both saved the world

Both fed the hungry

Both were the wisest man in the land

Both were second in authority (Pharoah, Joseph), (Heavenly Father, Jesus)

All people must bow the knee to both

Both withheld their identity from their brethren for a season
Both revealed their identity to their brethren

Both came back alive from the dead

Both showed mercy and forgiveness to their brethren

Their brethren sinned against both, but God brought great salvation out of the situation

Both were shepherds. Jesus said "I am the Good Shepherd"

Both furnished bread to their brethren. Jesus said "I am the Bread from Heaven"

Both bought all the land and people for their superior (Joseph, Pharoah), (Jesus, Father)

Both died in Egypt (Jesus died in spiritual Egypt, literal Jerusalem which was ruled by the Pharisees).

Both were shepherds of their Father's sheep

Both were sent by father to their brethren

Both were tempted

Both taken to Egypt

Their robes were taken from them

Both were sold for the price of a slave

Both bound in chains

Both were falsely accused

Both were placed with 2 other prisoners, one was saved, the other lost

both 30 years old at the beginning of public recognition

both exalted after suffering

Both forgave those who wronged them

Both saved their nation

What people did to hurt them, God turned to good

Both promised to take care of their brethren

I was looking at this old topic of Dennis and I realised that we could still draw some parallels between the Bride and Joseph and Jesus as well

If I remember correctly, J. Vernon McGee (deceased) said on his radio program "There are over 100 similarities between Joseph and Jesus.

Both were favorites of their Father (Bride is the elect)

Both were hated by their brethren (the tares or false prophet will hate the Bride)

Their brethren bowed the knee to both (The bride is given to sit in the throne of Jesus )

Their brethren feared both (The Bride will have God's authority)

Both went to Egypt (She will be in the wilderness/Egypt)

Both foretold the future (She speaks the Words of Jesus in prophecy)

Both enjoyed success in everything they did. (She has faith that gets her prayers answered)

Both were sold for a few pieces of silver (Again this will be true in the tribulation, she will be sold out)

Their brethren decided to murder both (The apostate will plan to kill her)

The Bible has no record of sin in Both. There is also no record of sin for the Bride

The Lord was with both (Emmanuel, God with us)

Both were accused of sin, but both were innocent (We have the righteousness of God, our sins have been taken away by the Lamb of God)

Both were filled with the Spirit of God (Amen, and the latter rain will make this even more true)Both saved the world

Both fed the hungry (She will bring the unleavened Bread , the Word, to a hungry people)

Both were the wisest man in the land (she has the mind of Christ)

Both were second in authority (Pharaoh, Joseph), (Heavenly Father, Jesus) Rev 3:21 He that overcometh, I will give to him to sit down with me in my throne, as I also overcame, and sat down with my Father in his throne.

All people must bow the knee to both Rev 2:26 And he that overcometh, and he that keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give authority over the nations:

Both withheld their identity from their brethren for a season (this is true at the moment, nobody knows the identity of the Bride)

Both revealed their identity to their brethren 2Co 4:11 For we who live are always delivered unto death for Jesus' sake, that the life also of Jesus may be manifested in our mortal flesh.

Both came back alive from the dead Gal 2:20 I have been crucified with Christ; and it is no longer I that live, but Christ living in me: and that life which I now live in the flesh I live in faith, the faith which is in the Son of God, who loved me, and gave himself up for me.

Both showed mercy and forgiveness to their brethren Joh 13:34 A new commandment I give unto you, that ye love one another; even as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

Their brethren sinned against both, but God brought great salvation out of the situation The false prophet and Harlot will sin greatly against the bride and the Lord

Both were shepherds. Jesus said "I am the Good Shepherd" With Jesus manifested in His people, they will have the Shepherd again.

Both furnished bread to their brethren. Jesus said "I am the Bread from Heaven" The Bride will preach the unleavened Bread again.

Both bought all the land and people for their superior (Joseph, Pharaoh), (Jesus, Father Rev 21:23 And the city hath no need of the sun, neither of the moon, to shine upon it: for the glory of God did lighten it, and the lamp thereof is the Lamb.
Rev 21:24 And the nations shall walk amidst the light thereof: and the kings of the earth bring their glory into it.

Both died in Egypt (Jesus died in spiritual Egypt, literal Jerusalem which was ruled by the Pharisees).
The Bride (overcomers) has died to self. She has taken up her cross and died to self in Egypt.

Both were shepherds of their Father's sheep Amen

Both were sent by father to their brethren That is true of the bride as well

Both were tempted Yes and she overcame, because Jesus overcame for her.

Both taken to Egypt (wilderness/tribulation/desert)

Their robes were taken from them The bride received a new robe, her old one (self and sin) was taken from her

Both were sold for the price of a slave We were first sold into captivity, but Jesus paid our price to set us free

Both bound in chains But Jesus came to set the captives free

Both were falsely accused In the tribulation the people of God will again be falsely accused

Both were placed with 2 other prisoners, one was saved, the other lost There are two men in the field, the Christ (saved ) and the Antichrist (lost)

both exalted after suffering Rev 21:10 And he carried me away in the Spirit to a mountain great and high, and showed me the holy city Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God,

Both forgave those who wronged them Amen

Both saved their nation . The bride brings the Word and partakes of the great harvest.

What people did to hurt them, God turned to good. God wins smile.gif

Both promised to take care of their brethren Love your neighbour as yourself

I am sure that there are better examples, but these are just as I thought of them

I am again reminded of the scripture:Ecc 1:9 That which hath been is that which shall be; and that which hath been done is that which shall be done: and there is no new thing under the sun.

You can also see Joseph in the second coming of Jesus.
Godsword
Another parallel between Joseph and Jesus that I don't think was mentioned (though it might have been pointed out at the website dennis referred to) is the following:
  • Both Joseph and Jesus were "cast into a pit/cave", then were brought out or left of their own accord: Joseph's brothers cast him into a pit, and Jesus' body was placed in a tomb.

Mashiach ben Yosef
Joseph as a type of Messiah

Jewish tradition actually refers to two redeemers,
each being called Mashiach (Messiah). Both of these redeemers are involved in delivering the Jewish people from galut (exile) and ushering in the long-awaited Messianic era. These two Mashiachs are called Mashiach ben David (Messiah the descendant of David) and Mashiach ben Yosef (Messiah the descendant of Joseph), respectively.

Thanks for the link, will check it out.

Also I agree completly, look at the following, now John knew Jesus was the Messiah....

Luke 7
18And the disciples of John shewed him of all these things.

19And John calling unto him two of his disciples sent them to Jesus, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

20When the men were come unto him, they said, John Baptist hath sent us unto thee, saying, Art thou he that should come? or look we for another?

21And in that same hour he cured many of their infirmities and plagues, and of evil spirits; and unto many that were blind he gave sight.

22Then Jesus answering said unto them, Go your way, and tell John what things ye have seen and heard; how that the blind see, the lame walk, the lepers are cleansed, the deaf hear, the dead are raised, to the poor the gospel is preached.

Jesus is telling John what His first work is by telling him what He was doing....Jews desire signs but Greeks desire wisdom...

When Jesus returns He will do another work, like Joseph was given a new name so too Jesus said He would write His NEW NAME on our foreheads....For His new work, apart from sin to reveal salvation to those who wait for Him...

Or else John would not have asked nor would Jesus given John the same answer, if He returned to do the same thing...

Food for thought!
God bless.
