Gustave Dore is my favorite, most intense artist ever and always will be. No one is able to put me into the scenery of the Bible or make it come alive through artistic means for me, more than this man.

I wanted to share this amazing talent with others, if you have not heard of him.

Gustave Doré (1832-83) French Artist/Illustrator and everything else artistic. He has done works for things which include The Divine Comedy, The Rime of the Ancient Mariner, Perrault's Fairy Tales, Don Quixote, Paradise Lost, Contes Drolatiques, Fables de La Fontaine, Tennyson's Elaine, and others.

I like Dore's work smile.gif I only came across his works just a few months ago.

Say did you see Raiders of the Lost Ark? Wasn't that a Dore print showing the Ark slaying the enemies of the Israelies? Boy I'd bet they'd want that thing. Rather than an atom bomb just whip out the ol Ark of the Covenant laugh.gif

But we have a new covenant to rely on, don't we? wub.gif

How awesome and humbling.
Nothing like black and white...it really captivates you into the depths of the Glory and the suffering...and the awe of his Mighty grace and mercy and resurrection.
Are all his paintings in black and white? I've always loved black and white photos too...looking back at old photos, it seems so sureal and so much more depth to them...almost ghost-like. The spirit of the LORD JESUS is speaking to us all in these paintings...simply humbleing.
Never seen these paintings before...amazing...thanks for posting.

From what I've seen over the years from him, he's done black and white plates or engravings etc. It is quite awesome, I'll post a couple more in a minute.

What Dore did mainly were Illustrations, etchings and engravings, such as what I've put up here.

Here are some more:
