I have had few encounters with mormons. They seem to be focused on JEsus. But some things contridict the word of God. What exactly to they believe and biblicaly why are they wrong in yalls opinion. They seem to have some wack concepts.

This link describes some of the obvious diferences in the beliefs of Christians and Mormons....I cannot tell you much about Mormonism, even though I read the Book of the Mormon several years ago. It just seemed to far fetched for me, I finally put it down and haven't looked at it again. There are several weblinks out there that argue both for and against mormanism. Hope this helps...

Here's a great site that deals with Mormonism, the best I know of:

http://www.saintsalive.com

There are like 62 articles, books you can order, online audio teachings (free), and other stuff. In Mormonism, God was once a mortal, but through exceedingly upright character he became the God of this particular universe (implying that there are other God's in parallel universes). So a devout Mormon holds to the hope that he too can become a God (I don't get the idea that females qualify). As man is, so God was is a major Mormon doctrine. Mormons hold that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are three distinct beings. Also, hopefully I'm getting this right, mankind already existed before the present 'earth age', we just don't remember it. We were born as literal sons of God because God had sexual relations with someone (don't remember who...Eve maybe?). In fact, I think Jesus was born as a result of the Father's sexual relationship...

The LDS Church teaches in its Articles of Faith, Article 3, "We believe that through the atonement of Christ, all mankind may be saved, by obedience to the laws and ordinances of the gospel (The MORMON gospel)”. So the Mormon Gospel is faith and works when you boil it down. This is a false gospel (Galatians 1:8-9)!
PraisingYeshua
As a former Latter Day Saint (Mormon), I can say unequivically that they are NOT very christian based, although to outsiders, it may seem so. And, sadly, even to many within the church, they are unaware. There are some members, that are beyond just usual membership...elders, bishop, ward president, etc. I guarantee they are fully aware of the more ritualistic ceremonial goings on. I was aware of it, because I researched it (duh...AFTER I joined), and I was more than surprised with the stuff I learned. They are a cult, pure and simple. It is astounding, really, how they pull you in. Their prime focus for converts are younger people, too.

Young missionaries came to our house, and what they have to say, sounded so beautiful. I began attending church, and everyone...and I mean E*V*E*R*Y*O*N*E makes you feel like a hundred million bucks! Everyone is kinder than kind to you, and extremely inclusive. For women, Sunday consists of 3 hours. Hour 1 is sacrament. Hour 2 is Sunday school. Hour 3 is Relief Society...which to me, seemed like nothing more than teaching women how to be doormats for their dh. (That's how it was in my ward, anyhow.) I cannot recall if I actually was allowed to attend relief society before I joined...it was almost 20 years ago. Anyhow, once you decide to join, it is this HUGE to-do focused on your being baptised, and then receiving laying on of hands to receive the Holy Spirit. (You can only be baptised/"receive" the Holy Spirit by members of the Melchizedek preisthood.) Almost as fast as you can say fast, you receive a calling, via blessing. In my case, it was teaching a sunday school class of under twelves.

So...what happens after you are a member? Essentially, the branch, ward, stake...whatever sized congregation you are in, moves on to the next potential member. It's scary how quickly you are dropped like a lead toot. But, don't be mistaken...they won't leave you to potentially go inactive, too easily. There are a myriad of ways to keep you involved...congregating with members of other churches is strongly discouraged. In fact, they really push marriage, and adding to the kingdom. So, add to that, semi-annual general conference (occur in April and October) that you are expected to attend; Fireside; singles dances, etc; stake meetings; home teachers; encouragement to join missionaries when they go out trachting, etc, they really do what they can to ensure you remain. If you opt to leave...they step up interaction with other members...sending them incessantly to you home, calling, etc etc etc. Heaven forbid if you should go from "inactive" to a "lost sheep".

I have contacted my branch president, stake president, and Utah, insisting no further contact, and that I am to be removed from membership lists. They still come to my door. My visiting teachers still send me mail. I still get invites from Relief Society for potlucks, etc. It's very annoying.

Don't misunderstand me. I would say the general mormon is christian, but unknowingly being led astray. However, Mormonism is in no way christian.

Here is a bit of info...very simple stuff...that the church teaches. You'd be astounded at the "word of mouth" beliefs.

Mormon doctrines

You know, the really amazing thing, is that knowing what I do about them, having been a member for so many years, I feel very defensive about the LDS church, to this day. I am sure it has something to do with the fact that while you are active, you are taught to be "defensive", even though it is worded as sharing the gospel, what have you.
bogoy
leave the mormons alone they got their own beliefs i got mine and all of you got yours

why are you all trying to find which is false or not? dont you know that all christian religions are connected
kim48
I have work with a couple and still remain friends now. I too think it is a cult. They know that I think it is a cult also.
They think there are degrees in Heaven one is, celestial bodies and terrestrials bodies.
They also think if you have a bad habit here on earth than you will have it in heaven, like smoking.
They think you can be baptise for people already past away.
This is just a couple of things I pick up on. There are many but this is a couple.
Kim
Dani
I was raised in mormonism from age 2. I firmly believe the Lord planned it that way. Baptized at age 8. At 13 my favorite scripture was Isaiah 55:8,9. Temple card holder at age 24. New Testament Adult Sunday School teacher at 27. At 28 the Lord smacked me upside the head (via whiplash) and lead me out of mormonism (Thank you Lord Jesus!). It took 5 years to fully detach physically. More than that for - emotionally and spiritually. I am 45 (in 2006). I find that He uses me when He wants to prevent one of his children from entering mormonism. I can be extremely blunt.

I have just looked at those 3 web sites and all of them are very good. You can spend an enormous amount of time researching mormonism... your decision(End-Time Calling). It's too much reading for my eyes! (I've spent way too much time, 43years, doing that very thing.)

PraisingYeshua's description is absolutely on target from everything that I remember. "I would say the general mormon is christian, but unknowingly being led astray." And it takes years to fully learn the false doctrines. Then one day the Child of God (whose name is written in the Book of LIfe, from the foundation of this world) is called by God to take a really good look ...the investment of YEARS into a cult is harsh reality... breaking away is indeed what Jesus described as forsaking your family in order to follow Him.

bogoy said "leave the mormons alone ...dont you know that all christian religions are connected"

Well, yes. And one can learn a lot from mormons - I have. However Jesus told us to "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." I see nothing wrong with PraisingYeshua's testimony of her personal experience in mormonism. Nor with the posts that have been posted. Nor with the websites listed. Nor do I see anything wrong in asking the original question.

Of all the sites and books that I've read - no one has stated the major mistake of mormonism. Always very close - never actually the one ...that I think is so important.

This is the major downfall of mormonism...

Deuteronomy 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:
Exodus 20:3 Thou shalt have no other gods before me.
Exodus 20:4 Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above,

Mormonism has redefined God. God the Father is redefined by mormonism to be a polygamist. He has many wives in order that he can have billions of spirit children (who in turn will be born and gain bodies here on earth). They claim that he has a body of flesh and bones and that he had sexual intercourse with Mary in order to conceive Jesus. (Mormons do believe in a Mother in Heaven. They sing of her as if she is only one, but teach that there are many.)

Mormonism has redefined Jesus. The Mormons of the 1800’s taught that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene, and Mary and Martha. It is also taught that the first miracle of Jesus in the Bible, the turning of water to wine at the wedding festival, was the marriage of Jesus. It was the responsibility of the groom to provide the wine, and since Jesus did, it therefore was his wedding.

Mormons also believe that the Holy Ghost is currently a spirit. However he is to be the last spirit to gain a body here on earth.

The mormon gods are THREE distinct individuals - with bodies of flesh and bones (with the Holy Ghost to have one at the end of time).

That contradicts Deut 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

Mormonism has made a new image of God. Because mormonism has made their "God the Father" and "God the Son" into polygamists... mormons break the 2nd commandment.

They therefore also break the 1st commandment because they place their polygamist gods before the true God of mankind.

It is important because ...

Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. (Matt 22:37)

The Old Testament says: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deuteronomy 6:4 +)

I could do what bogoy says and leave the mormons alone... but it is very important (ie. Salvation important) that you worship the true and living God! (not a false god.)

Mormonism is false Christianity.

Their current prophet is a false prophet.

Their current apostles are false apostles.

Joseph Smith has always been a false prophet.

YEah I was never intending of joining. I wanted to know because they frequently come to my do. I share my faith, but their exterrior message is all about Jesus. But I read some of what they believe and it is against the word of God. I wanted to know more so I could be a successful witness. If I knew more about them, then perhaps the seed I plant can reach their hearts. I only want to help them, because they are such nice young men. And they are soooo enthusiastic about Jesus, but they are led astray as father said some would be. And Bogoy. I wouldn't be doing as Jesus commanded us if I just left people alone to believe as they wanted. Thanks members.

I am glad End-Time Calling that you are staying true to God. I have found that the Lord does not have me witness to mormons. He might some day - I do not look forward to it. Mormons have a bad habit of not sticking to one topic, and of changing their history to fit Christian ideals (just about every 10 years their history does a change). In the changing of the history, the younger ones do not know what the older generation(s) have done. Example: changing the ordinances in the temple. There used to be mock slicing of the throat, chest and groin if you dare reveal what you've learned in the temple. The leadership decided that modern Christianity really found it offensive - so they changed the god-ordained ordinace. No more slicing. That was 1990 time frame. Every new person who went thru the temple after that change would absolutely fight you, tooth and nail, that slicing never ever existed in the temple ordinance.

lifeinhim61 posted a topic God And Time, The Longsuffering and Patience of God. I say AMEN to it.

kim48, God's blessings be upon you!

I have thought often, as Jack's scripture references state, of my many mormon friends and family. I prefer to think of God's longsuffering and patience toward mormons (especially those who do not yet know what they have joined) rather than Pauls "let him be eternally condemned". There are many mormons who will be condemned. They are teaching another gospel. The teachings are so subtle that you do not realize it from the well groomed mormon missionaries who come to your door to have religious discussions with you. I often feel sorry for these missionaries because not all of them know what it really is they are teaching. Often they are 19,20,21 years old and only know mormonism's false front - the one that simulates Christianity. Like I said, it takes years before you really begin to understand the false doctrines. I was 8 when I was baptized a mormon. The words spoken were I "baptize you in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Ghost." I knew Jesus. I didn't know their polygamist Jesus. False doctrine seeps into your soul so naturally and with such repetition that by the time you hear of the polygamy of their god... it is naturally acceptable. How could it be otherwise. And it is hard to understand why Christianity doesn't see the obviousness of it. It is so easy to blindly follow "the brethern"(leaders from Salt Lake).

Jack also said, "You can’t worship a different Jesus (God) then the one who is found in the scriptures and claim to know Him." I agree Jack. I must point out though, that mormon's do use the Bible along with their other "scriptures". I hope that God's children who are currently mormon will find their way to using their Bible and knowing the true God, and finding their way out of mormonism.

Jack you also said "Yes God is able to save them but as for you, have nothing to do with them. Let God deal with them." That is how God dealt with me. There was no Christian on the outside helping to pull me out. There was only God - using the whiplash of a car accident and His Word. This is how God worked with me. The Bible!

My mother merely ignores what I say. Doesn't believe that mormons really believe all that (after all they stopped practicing polygamy in 1890). She is invested. Her attachment was doing geneology in the 1960's. She researched our family history back to the early 1500's. She testifies of coming across some record that was written in a foreign language and deciding to hand copy it -so that she could have it translated. When she finally took it to be translated, the person thought she was a bit crazy since it was already in english. It was miraculously translated in the copying process. She hasn't attended a mormon service in 30 or 40 years. She watches a lot of televangelists though! But she has "home teachers" over to her house once a month. I ask why. She says it forces her to clean the house up a bit.

I only learned in the last month how she became susceptible to the mormons. She was raised a nice baptist girl. (Her grandparents on one side were catholic, on the other - the grandfather was a freemason.) Go figure. The Baptist pastor had taught her that Pope Pius XII was the antichrist. When news came that Pius had died, she was at work. All these catholics were sitting around sad with the news… she asked what was wrong, they said Pope Pius had died. She said to them, that can’t be true, he is the antichrist, the antichrist isn’t supposed to just die. They looked at my mother like she was a nut case. She was embarrassed. False teaching goes far and wide! Five years later, nice, well groomed mormon missionaries came knocking on the door with a wonderful message about families being forever.

Let me suggest that the reason you think it's rude and uncaring is because you're not looking at the Spirit who wrote it.

Look at these scriptures again and this time remember that God wrote them. Remember, God is love.

Galatians 1:8
But even if we or an angel from heaven should preach a gospel other than the one we preached to you, let him be eternally condemned!

Galatians 1:9
As we have already said, so now I say again: If anybody is preaching to you a gospel other than what you accepted, let him be eternally condemned!

How long are you going to deal with someone that preaches another Jesus?
Would it not be better for you to move on and tell someone that would except Him rather then waste your time on someone who rejects Him?

Yes it would… So if someone is preaching some other Jesus have nothing to do with them and move on… Let God deal with them.

In other words, let them be eternally condemned!

If God saves them – Good!
If He doesn’t, you haven’t wasted your time on them.

Everyone is happy!!!

Jack that is sad. sad.gif

GOD sent JESUS why?

Luke 19:10 For the Son of man is come to seek and to save that which was lost.

If you go back and read the scriptures you gave in context...you may see things clearer...

Galatians 1:8 But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.

Galatians 1:9 As we said before, so say I now again, if any man preach any other gospel unto you than that ye have received, let him be accursed.

What that says, if a man preaches something that is not of GOD'S WORD, let that person be cursed. It doesn't say that we curse them.

Galatians 1:10 For do I now persuade men, or God? or do I seek to please men? for if I yet pleased men, I should not be the servant of Christ.

Galatians 1:11 But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man.

Galatians 1:12 For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Galatians 1:13 For ye have heard of my conversation in time past in the Jews' religion, how that beyond measure I persecuted the church of God, and wasted it:

Galatians 1:14 And profited in the Jews' religion above many my equals in mine own nation, being more exceedingly zealous of the traditions of my fathers.

Galatians 1:15 But when it pleased God, who separated me from my mother's womb, and called me by his grace,

Galatians 1:16 To reveal his Son in me, that I might preach him among the heathen; immediately I conferred not with flesh and blood:

Galatians 1:17 Neither went I up to Jerusalem to them which were apostles before me; but I went into Arabia, and returned again unto Damascus.

Galatians 1:18 Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to see Peter, and abode with him fifteen days.

Galatians 1:19 But other of the apostles saw I none, save James the Lord's brother.

Galatians 1:20 Now the things which I write unto you, behold, before God, I lie not.

Galatians 1:21 Afterwards I came into the regions of Syria and Cilicia;

Galatians 1:22 And was unknown by face unto the churches of Judaea which were in Christ:

Galatians 1:23 But they had heard only, That he which persecuted us in times past now preacheth the faith which once he destroyed.

Galatians 1:24 And they glorified God in me.

He did not curse anyone. JESUS came to seek and to save...not to curse man.

A curse is a carnal thing. We are to shake the dust from our feet and move on, but we are not to curse them. We are to pray for them. We that plant the seed, move on. GOD will send someone else to water and someone else to harvest.

Jack, if we truly are doing GOD'S work, we will never curse someone. wub.gif

I'm not saying to go around cursing people... I was simply pointing out that we should let God deal with them.

The scripture is clear in saying let them be cursed so I simply pointed that out.
To me it means that if they refuse Christ move on...

Please remember that I pointed out that God may save them.

When my time came to be saved I believed the message... So will everyone else that God calls.

Anyway, please don't turn this into something it's not because it's scripture and I didn't mean it as some of you may think.

I'll say it again just in case I haven't made myself clear.
If someone doesn't receive you move on... Let God deal with them.

Another redefining of Yeshua that occurs, is their teaching of how Jesus and Satan were literal brothers. wacko.gif

As for baptism of the dead, they don't do it for past family members...they do it for as many Joe Blows as they can, that were never interested in mormonism, that have passed away. And, for those, they feel never had the opportunity to hear the word of mormonism. Praise Him that I never did this.

One thing that to this day, still drives me wonky, is how they teach that they are "the One True Church"...and if you choose to leave "The Church", you will be condemned to hell, for turning your back on the truth.

Hi,

On Mormonism, and every other ism I think of in just this moment...

the time is short...what has light to do with darkness...lest the two be
agreed they cannot travel the road together...there is a breach...even
if well intended and of ignorance...the cult, like any cult preaches
different things at different levels...and it is an initiation into deeper
realms of darkness...most being deceived become deceivers...does
that make sense...its the Word. This is not a small deception, not
a small thing like I have heard some discuss here for detail, and sharpening the wisdom...this is something else, camouflaged and
deeply seated in occult which provides another Jesus...do all the people
know...of course not...do all the people believe that we sit next too
in a pew...of course not...that is what we know from the scripture
that tells us that God will seperate the wheat from the tares....so, now
what are we to do about the cults and occult...pray for them and
pray that God intervenes...He knows who are his...and He has given
us the Scriptures and discernment...also, when we know this...we do
not enter into babble...or points of where we agree holding on to them
we fully understand that there is a breach and we let go of them....
grabbing onto God for their sake, and ours also, lest we be caught in
a web...People, there is not mixing...this is not snap and buttons...
Father,
In the precious name of Jesus, the name above all names, I call out
the very dear ones of God who have been deceived by the occult
and satan...save them God and they will be saved, heal them God
and they will be healed...O let no believer in Jesus Christ, no true
child of God feel condemnation, for there is no condemnation...just
truth...and the truth shall set them free. I ask that your Truth come
as a fire and a flood upon the cultic churches and occultic temples, to
set the captives free. Thank you Jesus.

Signet that was well said.

Yes God is light pure light.
There is not a trace of darkness in him.

We have to stay in the light of our Lord and
Saviour Jesus Christ.

I am preaching this to myself.
There are so many things that are
trying to pull me away from my Lord.
I am staying with Him. I pray this, that
I do not become deceived. We are not
immune to the trickery of satan.

I must pray and keep the armor of the Lord on.
The enemy is after me daily it seem lately.
Our Lord is our strength and our refuge.
I am hiding in Him.

Fight the Good Fight until we see our Lord face to face,
my friends. We are one in Christ.

I love the guitar kitty, too.

We all have to press into the Word...and ask the spirit of God to protect us from false prophets, false doctrines, false spirits, and strip us
gently of course...hopefully of our own false ideas...which human beings
have...of making God into our image...and then we control God...time
and again, just look at where we are now, prophesied, we gotta go through some really frightening times, all this puffed up stuff, cause
we as human beings, all of us, are just that...and we succumb easily
EXCEPT Jesus! And I am convinced that nothing shall separate us from
the love of God,(God still loves us even when we walk away, and He
wants that none shall perish). Yet, he will keep offering humankind
with opportunity to accept His love, on a cross even as the degree of
hard heartedness has brought the world to the threshhold of tribulation.
God fortold this and many will grab ahold and be ushered into the
kingdom of God.Many will refuse. We must seek Him and pray. And praise Him no matter what it looks like out there. Smile my friend, Jesus loves you!

its true you know that all christian churches are interconected first they have the same sorce that is the roman catholic church and the orthodox church(which both are the same but priestly beliefs are different and tradition like for ex in the past the center of catholicism is in rome and orthodox in constantinople and also the roman catholic church follows cellebecy and orthodox doesnt) and second we use the same bible but different interpretations and lastly we believe in the same god well some dont believe in jesus but we still believe in the same god
