Why did Jesus Die for us?

"He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not. Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him, stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted. But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and by his stripes we are healed." Isaiah 53: 3-5 (KJV)

" He was oppressed, and he was afflicted, yet he opened not his mouth: he is brought as a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before her shearers is dumb, so he openeth not his mouth. He was taken from prison and judgement: and who shall declare his generation? for he was cut out of the land of the living: for transgression of my people was he stricken. And he made his grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death; because he had done no violence, neither was there any deceit in his mouth. Yet it pleased the Lord to bruise him; he hath put him to grief: when thou shalt make his soul an offering for sin, he shall see his seed,he shall prolong his days, and the pleasure of the Lord shall prosper in his hand. He shall see the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied:by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities. Therefore will I divide him a portion with the great, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong; because he hath poured out his soul unto death: and he was numbered with the transgressors; and he bear the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors." Isaiah 53: 7-12 (KJV)

Just a reminder! wub.gif

Matthew 20:19 And shall deliver him to the Gentiles to mock, and to scourge, and to crucify him: and the third day he shall rise again.

Matthew 27:31 And after that they had mocked him, they took the robe off from him, and put his own raiment on him, and led him away to crucify him.

Mark 15:13 And they cried out again, Crucify him.

Mark 15:14 Then Pilate said unto them, Why, what evil hath he done? And they cried out the more exceedingly, Crucify him.

Mark 15:20 And when they had mocked him, they took off the purple from him, and put his own clothes on him, and led him out to crucify him.

Luke 23:21 But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.

John 19:6 When the chief priests therefore and officers saw him, they cried out, saying, Crucify him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Take ye him, and crucify him: for I find no fault in him.

John 19:15 But they cried out, Away with him, away with him, crucify him. Pilate saith unto them, Shall I crucify your King? The chief priests answered, We have no king but Caesar.

Why GOD allowed this to happen....

John 3:15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. 16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. 17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved. 18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 19 And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. 20 For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved. 21 But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

The story of JESUS crucified should cut through the marrow and the heart of all that believe in HIM. It takes a humbled spirit of a man or woman to comprehend that. Praise the LORD, that we are redeemed through the precious flow from JESUS blood on Calvary. What more can we ask of HIM that has laid down HIS life so that we can have life and have it more abundantly? He answered the call of GOD, stood in GOD'S perfect WILL, and became the Passover LAMB for all who will belive in HIM. A aLAMB without blemish or sin. Yet HE took our blemish and sins and nailed them to a cross for eternity!

Each Good Friday, and through out Easter, I am always amazed by the testimony given by the disciples and those who witnessed this first hand. Can you imagine standing there and watching your best friend and SON of GOD die for your sins, knowing the Biblical OT prophecies about HIM. Watching in AWE and WONDER.

Yet, those who studied the biblical prophecies the most were in complete denial of HIM being the Messiah. They were too caught up in the position that their titles carried, to see the Messiah standing before them.

Over 2000 years have past, and we are just now beginning to see the Messianic Jewish movement taking place. They are fulfilled by JESUS as the Messiah. To them this is the completion of being born a Jew. PRAISE GOD!

We Christians are fulfilled by HIS saving grace upon an old rugged cross. He saved a sinner like me. That is why my marrow and my heart is cut, and now it flows with JESUS saving grace. GOD WORD says we are adopted into the kingdom. Joint Heirs with Christ. PRAIE GOD!

We are washed in the Blood of the LAMB!

We are redeemed indeed that beleive on HIM.

Praise HIM!

GOD'S plan was PERFECT and the only ONE PERFECT enough to fulfill it was...

JESUS!

Now I can honestly say,

Its about HIM, not about me.

Are you broken for HIM? I am. wub.gif

The Bible says he rose on the first day of the week....

Matthew 28:1 In the end of the sabbath, as it began to dawn toward the first day of the week, came Mary Magdalene and the other Mary to see the sepulchre.

Mark 16:2 And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun.

Mark 16:9 Now when Jesus was risen early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene, out of whom he had cast seven devils.

Luke 24:1 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.

John 20:1 The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

John 20:19 Then the same day at evening, being the first day of the week, when the doors were shut where the disciples were assembled for fear of the Jews, came Jesus and stood in the midst, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

HB, According to scriptures, it happened during the week of Passover. Staring with the passover meal, known as the Last Supper, up until Jesus is resserected. This is why we celebrate the crucified and reserrected JESUS, during Passover. The year or the exact date is not important for me to understand the sifgnificance of why JESUS died for me. If you read all the quoted passages, you should be able to determine this.

That is why the PASSOVER meal is symbolic of JESUS as the MESSIAH. It is a wonderful and complete message of HIM! wub.gif

I think it is good to be reminded from Bible verses especially WHAT Jesus actually did for us.

NONE of us are worth this, but He died for us in order to give us a chance to be with Him for eternity. All you have to do is believe. Most people think there has to be some kind of catch, like it's too simple. It's not. It's so simple in fact, that it confounds men that think they are wise.

I have the Passion on DVD, and this is not a movie one can pull out and watch every week, more like twice a year. It's very heavy and truly brings tears to my eyes when I see just a moment of what Jesus endured for someone like me that is indeed not worth cleaning his feet.

I'm grateful that I was called, and chose to worship the ONLY God, God in the flesh, my God, Jesus Christ.

He is worth everything that I can ever and will ever give until it's time for me be with Him forever, which I assure you, after being in this world, I am looking forward to.

The Passion, is a great movie, and depicts most of the scripture acurately. I say most, because Mell Gibson, missed a few things in the scriptures as with his script for the movie. That is okay though, because I believe that GOD used it anyway. Even with all our human flaws, GOD can use us to reach a lost and dying world. He uses each of us, regardless of how much we don't see or comprehend, in our interpretations of JESUS; to reach others for HIS KINGDOM. My heart wrenches in pain and guilt and in awe; when I think about all that JESUS did for me, a sinner. How can so many people remain blind to the truth about JESUS? wub.gif Are you broken for HIM? I know that I am completely and utterly broken for HIM. wub.gif

John 19:17 And he bearing his cross went forth into a place called the place of a skull, which is called in the Hebrew Golgotha: 18 Where they crucified him, and two other with him, on either side one, and Jesus in the midst. 19 And Pilate wrote a title, and put it on the cross. And the writing was JESUS OF NAZARETH THE KING OF THE JEWS. 20 This title then read many of the Jews: for the place where Jesus was crucified was nigh to the city: and it was written in Hebrew, and Greek, and Latin. 21 Then said the chief priests of the Jews to Pilate, Write not, The King of the Jews; but that he said, I am King of the Jews. 22 Pilate answered, What I have written I have written. 23 Then the soldiers, when they had crucified Jesus, took his garments, and made four parts, to every soldier a part; and also his coat: now the coat was without seam, woven from the top throughout. 24 They said therefore among themselves, Let us not rend it, but cast lots for it, whose it shall be: that the scripture might be fulfilled, which saith, They parted my raiment among them, and for my vesture they did cast lots. These things therefore the soldiers did. 25 Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother, and his mother's sister, Mary the wife of Cleophas, and Mary Magdalene. 26 When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son! 27 Then saith he to the disciple, Behold thy mother! And from that hour that disciple took her unto his own home. 28 After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst. 29 Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth. 30 When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

John 14:3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.

John 14:28 Ye have heard how I said unto you, I go away, and come again unto you. If ye loved me, ye would rejoice, because I said, I go unto the Father: for my Father is greater than I.

Revelation 3:11 Behold, I come quickly: hold that fast which thou hast, that no man take thy crown.

Revelation 22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

Revelation 22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

Revelation 22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus.

He will come again! I am holding on to the promise!

Tigger, I simply want to say thank you.
I know your words come from Christ and I am thanking Him
for sending you to us on this day.

Weeping on the mount over the city,
With compassion moved for the throng;
Seeking for the lost sheep astraying,
Helping sick and well, weak and strong.
Shedding tears of grief for us sinners,
Paying with His blood for our wrongs.

Sweating bloody sweat in the garden,
Beaten before Pilate and tried;
With a crown of thorns, robed in scarlet,
Nailed upon a cross where He died;
Hanging between thieves, naked, thirsting,
Christ my Lord was crucified.

Now He's gone above with the Father,
His high priestly pleading to do;
Ever for His own interceding,
Then He'll come and take us Home too.
Every knee shall bow to the Saviour,
Him we'll praise eternity through.

Jesus died for our sins,
Pouring out His soul.
Those who take and trust Him
Shall be fully whole.

Because of you Lord we are whole
and you have saved my soul.

I love you Jesus. I send you kisses today like I do everyday.
I will never forget what you did for us.
The pain that you endured.
Today I have cried, rejoiced and cried again.
You know what every tear I shed was all about.

love,

John 20:7 And the napkin, that was about his head, not lying with the linen clothes, but wrapped together in a place by itself.

The significance of the Napkin placed folded and by itself....

The Bible says that the linen clothes were lying 'wrapped together'; still entwined, just as they were when they were first wrapped around His lifeless body. The burial spices would have hardened the cloths around the body and would have formed a cocoon, but it was empty. If the body had been taken by grave robbers, the wrappings around the body would not have been removed. If they had been removed, they would left in a hurry and the tomb picture would not have been in such an orderly fashion. Then, there is the matter of the napkin. Had the body been removed by others, the napkin would merely have lain where it had fallen. Instead, it had been folded and laid in a place by itself.

Everything speaks of calmness and order in the empty tomb of Jesus!

The sermon......

The Napkin is Still Folded

John 20:1-20:7 (NIV, NIRV, TNIV, KJV)

THE NAPKIN IS STILL FOLDED
JOHN 20:1-7

In Bible days, when someone died, it was the duty of a family member to close the eyes and kiss the cheek of the dead. When Christ died, this became the duty of two men: Joseph of Arimathea, and Nicodemus. They went to Pontius Pilate and begged the body of the Lord Jesus.

Then they had to take Him down from the cross…which was not an easy chore. First, they had to rig a ladder, and climb up the side of the cross, and then they had to pull His hands off over the nails. There was no way they could get those spikes out of the wood, not from that angle, not w/ His hands inbetween the wood and the nail head. Once the hands were loosed, they allowed the body of Jesus to sag into a sheet, and would then remove His feet from the nail in the same manner.

They took the body of Jesus to a new tomb, that Joseph had prepared for himself. They washed His body, and wrapped it in white linen, folding His arms over His chest. They closed His eyes, kissed His cheek, and placed a napkin over His face.

They walked away from that tomb, and no doubt they walked in silence…so that all you could hear was the sounds of their sadness, muffled crying, and sniffing. Surely it must have felt like a huge ball of lead in the pit of their stomachs, as they were thinking, “it’s all over, the end of the dream…and it only lasted for 3 short years.”

3 days passed like an eternity…and I believe w/ all my heart that the birds refused to sing, and the sun refused to shine. For 3 days, all the demons of hell rejoiced, and Satan and the forces of darkness thought they had won a great victory. For 3 days, the Jewish leaders, as well as the Roman government, congratulated themselves on their brilliant scheme. But on the 3rd day, something wonderful and miraculous happened, as God the Father said to an angel in heaven, “Go get him!” And when the angel’s feet hit the ground, the stone rolled away, and up from the grave He arose…He lives!

In our text, Mary comes first to the empty tomb. She sees the stone rolled away and it frightens her. And so she runs to get Peter and John, and they run together to the tomb as fast as they could. John outran Peter, and when he got there, he looked inside, and saw those grave clothes lying there in disarray. Then Peter arrived and, just as we’d expect of him, went right in. He also saw the linen clothes lying there, but there was something unusual in that scene. Something caught their eye that was very interesting.

The Gospel of John tells us that the napkin, which was placed over the face of Jesus, was not just thrown aside like the grave clothes. The Bible takes an entire verse to tell us that the napkin was neatly folded, and was placed at the head of that stony coffin. Is that important? You’d better believe it! Is that significant? Absolutely! Is it really significant? Yes!

In order to understand the significance of the folded napkin, you have to understand a little bit about Hebrew tradition of that day. The folded napkin had to do w/ the Master and Servant, and every Jewish boy knew this tradition. When the servant set the dinner table for the master, he made sure that it was exactly the way the master wanted it. The table was furnished perfectly, and then the servant would wait, just out of sight, until the master had finished eating, and the servant would not dare touch that table, until the master was finished.

Now if the master were done eating, he would rise from the table, wipe his fingers, his mouth, and clean his beard, and would wad up that napkin and toss it onto the table. The servant would then know to clear the table. For in those days, the wadded napkin meant, “I’m done”. But if the master got up from the table, and folded his napkin, and laid it aside his plate, the servant would not dare touch the table, because the servant knew that the folded napkin meant, “I’m not finished yet.” The folded napkin meant, “I’m coming back!” Excuse me while I shout (Baptist style).

Peter and John had walked w/ Christ for 3 years. They had watched as He opened blind eyes and deaf ears. They watched as He literally raised people from the dead. Then they watched Him die…and as they watched, all of their hopes, all of their dreams were shattered! All they could think was, “it’s over, it’s all over!” And for 3 long days they were in the depths of despair…the lights of their soul had gone dim. Peter even said, I’m goin’ fishin’. I’m goin’ back to what I used to do.

Then after 3 days, they saw an empty tomb. Not only did they see an empty tomb, but they saw a folded napkin in that empty tomb! I believe w/ all my heart that when they saw that folded napkin God spoke to them in their being and said, “He’s not finished yet…He’s coming back!”

I thank God today that

He’s not finished yet!/the tomb is empty/our Savior is alive/the napkin is still folded!

I submit to you today that

1. He’s not finished saving souls!

The folded napkin says that He’s not finished saving souls. The Bible says that Jesus came into this world for one reason: to save sinners.

John 3
17For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

Acts 4
12Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.

For that reason, there are 2 kinds of people in this room today. And the distinction is not black and white…for God doesn’t see us that way.
Rich/poor educated/uneducated republican/democrat

In the eyes of God, there are 2 kinds of people here today:
Those that have already been saved/Those who need to be saved

Many people have the mistaken idea that good people ARE saved and only bad people NEED to be saved. Certainly bad people NEED to be saved…and so do “good” people.

May I say as clearly as possible, that no one exists who’s so bad they CAN’T be saved…and no one so good they don’t NEED to be saved!

Rom. 3
23For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God

In God’s eyes, there’s no difference…there are no big sinners and little sinners, just sinners. In God’s eyes, I’m as guilty of breaking God’s holy standard as is Osama bin Ladin. In God’s eyes, there are sinners who have been forgiven…like me, and sinners who have not been…but certainly CAN be.

Years ago, the great evangelist Billy Sunday was preparing to go into a certain city to do a major crusade. He wrote ahead of time to the mayor of the city, and said, “would you please send me the names of people in your area who need serious spiritual help”. To Sunday’s surprise, the mayor sent him…the telephone book! That mayor knew something. He understood that we all need spiritual help.

The napkin is still folded…He’s still saving souls!

2. The napkin is still folded…He’s not finished reclaiming backsliders!

A few days before Christ died, He took His disciples aside and told them what was about to happen. He said, I’m going to be betrayed, arrested, beaten, and crucified. Then he looked at the disciples and said, all of you are going to desert me when the heat is on.

The Apostle Peter rose up in typical style and said, Not me, Lord. “though all shall be offended, yet will I never be offended.” In other words, Lord, I don’t know about the rest of these bums, but you can count on me! Then he said, “Though I should die w/ thee, yet will I not deny thee.”

Can’t you just see Jesus shaking his head, saying, Peter, you’re gonna deny me three times by tomorrow morning!

Then the Roman soldiers came to arrest the Lord Jesus…w/ swords and shields and spears. And courage welled up in Peter’s heart, and he took out his sword, and even took a swing at them. He lopped off the ear of one of them…and I doubt he was aiming for his ear! (demonstrate)

The Lord did something incredible. He said, friends, Romans, countrymen, lend me your…no that’s a different book!

Seriously, he picked up that ear, and supernaturally reattached it to the man’s head. I don’t know about you, but if I were a Roman soldier that day, and I saw that miracle, I would have changed sides! “Hey fellas, I came w/ you, but I’m leavin’ w/ Him!”

They arrested Jesus and subjected Him to shear torture. And while this was happening, Peter’s courage turned to butter. A young lady approached and said, “I know you, you were with Him”. And this same man who had just stood up to the entire Roman army, now backed down and said, “I don’t know the man!” Another came up and said the same, and again he denied Christ. Yet another said, your accent betrays you, you’re a Galilean, you’re one of His disciples, and he not only denied Christ that 3rd time, but for emphasis threw in a few cuss words…I don’t know the blankety-blank man, leave me alone! And the rooster immediately crowed, and Peter remembered the words of Jesus. And he looked off into the distance, and there stood Christ, and their eyes caught. And when he saw the sadness and sorrow in the eyes of Jesus, it broke His heart.

He went out to a rock and pounded on it and said, “Oh God, how could I have done this…how can you ever forgive me?” And for 3 days he lived in shame, guilt, and misery, realizing he had denied the Lord.

Listen now, let me drop a blessing in your heart. Look at Mark’s acct of the easter story, on screen:

Mark 16
1And when the sabbath was past, Mary Magdalene, and Mary the mother of James, and Salome, had bought sweet spices, that they might come and anoint him. 2And very early in the morning the first day of the week, they came unto the sepulchre at the rising of the sun. 3And they said among themselves, Who shall roll us away the stone from the door of the sepulchre? 4And when they looked, they saw that the stone was rolled away: for it was very great. 5And entering into the sepulchre, they saw a young man sitting on the right side, clothed in a long white garment; and they were affrighted. 6And he saith unto them, Be not affrighted: Ye seek Jesus of Nazareth, which was crucified: he is risen; he is not here: behold the place where they laid him. 7But go your way, tell his disciples and Peter that he goeth before you into Galilee: there shall ye see him, as he said unto you.

Can’t you see it in your mind’s eye…these ladies run to the disciples to tell them the good news. He’s alive! He’s alive! He’s risen from the dead!!

Can’t you see Peter, in the corner of the room, shocked, saying, what? What did you say? It’s true!

“Yes, He said to meet Him Galilee!”

And Peter, who has been in the depths of depression for 3 days, stunned at the reality of the Resurrection, and almost encouraged, is once again plagued in his mind at his pitiful denial of Christ, and is dragged right back down into his pit of despair, and thought, “surely He doesn’t mean for me to come…I denied Him 3 times, I cussed and swore…surely, surely He doesn’t mean me!”

And the ladies said, oh, Peter, by the way…He mentioned you by name!!!

(Excuse me while I get Bapticostal!)

Yes, he mentioned you by name!
“He did? What’d He say?”
He said, go tell the disciples…and Peter.

Why did Jesus want to see Peter…to rebuke him? No, he wanted to restore him! And one of the sweetest scenes you’ll ever see in scripture is Peter and Jesus, coming together, and Jesus hugging him and saying, Peter, do you love me? Not, “Peter, are you gonna cuss any more?” No! He said, do you love me?

That’s the real issue. If you’re here today and you know you’re a backslider, let me ask you, was there a time when you WERE right with Him? You see, the real question is not, are you gonna drink anymore?/cuss anymore?…the real question today is “do you love Him?”……..He loves you!

The napkin is still folded: He’s still saving souls
He’s still reclaiming backsliders

I heard about a little boy who had done something very naughty. His mother punished him. He was afraid his mother was still angry at him…in the kitchen there was a chalkboard on the wall where they wrote down phone messages. When no one was around, he wrote on that chalkboard, dear mom, if you forgive me, please wipe this out.
He went to his room, and about an hour later returned, and to his surprise and joy that chalkboard had been completely erased!

Are you away from God right now? Bring your sins to the cross…

…Jesus will not rub them in, He’ll rub them out!

If you’re here today and you need to be saved, or you need to come BACK to God, I need to remind you there’s coming a day when another supper will take place…it’s called the marriage supper of the Lamb, and I have a feeling that at the marriage supper of the Lamb, that at the end of the meal, Jesus will stand at the head of the table, and He’s gonna wipe His fingers/mouth/clean His beard, and He’s gonna take His napkin, and cast it aside…when that happens, it IS over! The last soul that’s gonna be saved, has been saved. The last backslider that’s gonna come home has!

I beg of you, don’t wait ‘til it’s too late. Right now, the napkin is still folded!

Remember the prodigal son…when he came home, his father welcomed him home w/ open arms!

Today, Jesus is calling you home, the napkin is still folded!

Good person or bad…you need to be saved. Pray a prayer like this, right where you sit…

If you need to be saved or need to come home to Christ…please come.

Maybe you want to pray for a wayward one in your life. If you’ll come to the altar, we’ll have special prayer for them this morning.

In God’s eyes, there are sinners who have been forgiven…like me, and sinners who have not been…but certainly CAN be.

and He is still molding us and teaching us something new everyday.

Tigger, keep doing God's works. You are a blessing to me beyond words.

The sermon deals with one of the Jewish customs concerning the folding of the napkin...here is the second tradition concerning the Napkin being folded.

The second reason for the napkin being folded and seperate from the burial clothes...

If you were a guest in the Master's home and the food or the company was not exactly what you would have liked it to be.....for instance the Master of the home did not welcome you properly by offering to wash your feet. Remember the story of where the alabaster box was broken and the precious ointment was poured over JESUS feet. He told the Master of the home, that he had not followed the tradition of washing the feet of his guests. Jesus was aware of the Jewish traditions. Now, if the food and/or the company was not good, you, the guest, would simply fold your napkin at the end of the meal, as if you had not partaken of the meal. It sent a strong message to the Master of the home, that you would not return there again.

In both instances of Jewish tradition, JESUS met the Tradition! The folded Napkin folded seperate and away from the burial clothes had two meanings.

1. He would return for us.

2. He conquered the grave and would never have to go there again!

Jesus conquered death, and HE is coming again!

QUOTE(Humble Bob @ Apr 14 2006, 12:42 PM)

...soo, would that be like the 16th like the coming Easter this Sunday?  Wait a minute...what year was Christ crucified, 33 AD?  There's got to be a calendar program on the internet to determine this... huh.gif

The calendar was so grievously messed up between the fall of Rome and the rise of the Holy Roman Empire that it is only a guess on how many actual years have passed since the crucifixion. I do mean a guess and not an estimate. The difference is like this, I can give you an estimate of how much change I have in my pocket but I can only guess how much change you have in your pocket. The whole thing was restructured on dates written on documents and such, and that is providing the ones who wrote the dates knew what day it was. I have read some expert accounts that time could be miss calculated as much as 400 years.

A History

The use of BC and AD for numbering calendar years was invented by Dionysius Exiguus in 525 AD. His purpose was to determine the correct date for Easter under the direction of Pope St. John I.

Prior to this time, one method for determining Easter was based on a 532 year calendar cycle stemming from the Alexandrian era. Other methods were also used which led to the confusion. Dionysius was asked to determine a method for calculating Easter that would then be used by the entire church.

Dionysius did not want to perpetuate the name of Alexander, the Great Persecutor. He decided to start his 532 year cycle from the year associated with the foundation of Rome. At that time Christ’s birth was supposed to have occurred immediately preceding the year of the founding of Rome. Today, based on historical evidence relating to Herod and astronomical evidence relating to eclipses and star novas, most historians believe Christ was actually born a few years earlier.

Dionysius named the years relating to his cycle, BC for Before Christ which starts with year 1 and AD for Anno Domini, the year of Our Lord referring to the year of Christ’s birth. This is also a year 1. There is no year 0. That’s the reason purists insists the 21st century actually begins January 1, 2001. (for example the first year began in 1 AD and ended the beginning of 2 AD so the first year of the 21st century begins in 2001 AD and ends with the beginning of 2002 AD)

It took about 400 years for the dating system devised by Dionysius to reach common usage. In combination with the Julian Calendar system which determines the beginning of months and years this continued until 1582 AD. The number of each year is based on Dionysius numbering system.

The need for the introduction of the Gregorian Calendar came about because a year is not exactly 365 days long. It is actually 365 and a quarter days long. Every 4 years, March 1st moved behind a day until after centuries instead of being early spring March 1st was now the beginning of winter. Something had to be done.

The Gregorian Calendar was introduced in the Catholic parts of Europe in 1582 A.D. by Pope Gregory XIII (then the religious leader of the Roman Catholic faith) as an improvement upon the Julian Calendar to keep the average length of the calendar year better in line with the seasons.

The rules, months, and days of the Gregorian calendar are the same as those of the Julian Calendar, except for the leap year rules. In the Gregorian calendar, a year is a leap year if the year number is evenly divisible by 4, but not if the year number is evenly divisible by 100, and this last exception must not be applied if the year number is evenly divisible by 400. For example, 1600 and 2000 are leap years, but 1700, 1800, and 1900 are not.

The legal code of the United States does not specify an official national calendar. Use of the Gregorian calendar in the United States is a result of an Act of Parliament of the United Kingdom in 1751, which specified use of the Gregorian calendar in England and its colonies. However, its adoption in the United Kingdom and other countries was fraught with confusion, controversy, and even violence. It also had a deeper cultural impact through the disruption of traditional festivals and calendrical practices.

The widespread use of the Gregorian calendar and the use of BC and AD throughout the world came about thanks to the colonization practices of Europe and economic pressures of a world-wide economy led by Europe and the United States. This is gradually changing as more and more academic writers prefer the use of CE rather than AD.

John 20: 24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came. 25 The other disciples therefore said unto him, We have seen the Lord. But he said unto them, Except I shall see in his hands the print of the nails, and put my finger into the print of the nails, and thrust my hand into his side, I will not believe. 26 And after eight days again his disciples were within, and Thomas with them: then came Jesus, the doors being shut, and stood in the midst, and said, Peace be unto you. 27 Then saith he to Thomas, Reach hither thy finger, and behold my hands; and reach hither thy hand, and thrust it into my side: and be not faithless, but believing. 28 And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God. 29 Jesus saith unto him, Thomas, because thou hast seen me, thou hast believed: blessed are they that have not seen, and yet have believed. 30 And many other signs truly did Jesus in the presence of his disciples, which are not written in this book: 31 But these are written, that ye might believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God; and that believing ye might have life through his name.

I am so glad that I believe in Jesus Christ and yet I have not witnessed HIM with my eyes, but with my heart!

JESUS came...

Matthew 9:23 And when Jesus came into the ruler's house, and saw the minstrels and the people making a noise,

Matthew 16:13 When Jesus came into the coasts of Caesarea Philippi, he asked his disciples, saying, Whom do men say that I the Son of man am?

Matthew 17:7 And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.

Matthew 28:18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.

Mark 1:9 And it came to pass in those days, that Jesus came from Nazareth of Galilee, and was baptized of John in Jordan.

Mark 1:14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

Luke 19:5 And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up, and saw him, and said unto him, Zacchaeus, make haste, and come down; for to day I must abide at thy house.

John 4:46 So Jesus came again into Cana of Galilee, where he made the water wine. And there was a certain nobleman, whose son was sick at Capernaum.

John 11:17 Then when Jesus came, he found that he had lain in the grave four days already.

John 20:24 But Thomas, one of the twelve, called Didymus, was not with them when Jesus came.

1 Timothy 1:15 This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief.

When Jesus Came things happened! Miracles took place, and HE wants you to know that he always came, and will come again! rolleyes.gif

Mar 11:1 ¶ And when they came nigh to Jerusalem, unto Bethphage and Bethany, at the mount of Olives, he sendeth forth two of his disciples, 2 And saith unto them, Go your way into the village over against you: and as soon as ye be entered into it, ye shall find a colt tied, whereon never man sat; loose him, and bring [him]. 3 And if any man say unto you, Why do ye this? say ye that the Lord hath need of him; and straightway he will send him hither. 4 And they went their way, and found the colt tied by the door without in a place where two ways met; and they loose him. 5 And certain of them that stood there said unto them, What do ye, loosing the colt? 6 And they said unto them even as Jesus had commanded: and they let them go. 7 And they brought the colt to Jesus, and cast their garments on him; and he sat upon him. 8 And many spread their garments in the way: and others cut down branches off the trees, and strawed [them] in the way. 9 And they that went before, and they that followed, cried, saying, Hosanna; Blessed [is] he that cometh in the name of the Lord: 10 Blessed [be] the kingdom of our father David, that cometh in the name of the Lord: Hosanna in the highest.

Yeshuah died to fulfill the covenant because we could not.

The sign that Yeshuah said would be given that He was the fulfillment was that he would be in the belly of the earth three days and three nights. This is the Jewish way of saying three full twenty-four hour periods.

Contrary to popular printing that he rose the first day of the week, the actual translation is litterally "first of the week"

This is in keeping with the account of the Mary's who testify that they were at the tomb before the rising of the sun while it was still dark and found the tomb empty.

The Jewish method of determining the first of the week is at sundown Saturday. Yeshuah therefore is recorded as having risen acording to the scripture between 7ish pm Saturday and 5isham sunday.

This would have been the "Feast of First Fruits" acording to the scripture. Therefore it is written that Yeshuah is the First Fruits of from the dead.

If Yehoshuah was in the tomb a full three days, He was burried before sundown on Wednesday. The calendar has been accurately kept by the Jews in the form of Hillels Calendar. From Hillel's calendar we can determine dates that would fit the time frame and description of the happenings during the time of Yeshuahs life and death leaving only a few possible years that could qualify.

If you add to that the authorities listed you have a pretty good idea of the time. It seems some of the Essene writings also give a good deal of information to help. 31 AD and 28 AD are possible dates and would equate to what we would call April 28th 28 AD or April 25th 31AD.

Just my two cents

Jesus Christ died and rose again for His friends. Anyone can become the friend of Jesus Christ by doing what He commanded.

John 15
13 Greater love has no one than this, than to lay down one's life for his friends.
14 You are My friends if you do whatever I command you.
15 No longer do I call you servants, for a servant does not know what his master is doing; but I have called you friends, for all things that I heard from My Father I have made known to you.
16 You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you.
17 These things I command you, that you love one another.
18 "If the world hates you, you know that it hated Me before it hated you.
19 If you were of the world, the world would love its own. Yet because you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you.
20 Remember the word that I said to you, 'A servant is not greater than his master.' If they persecuted Me, they will also persecute you. If they kept My word, they will keep yours also.
21 But all these things they will do to you for My name's sake, because they do not know Him who sent Me.
22 If I had not come and spoken to them, they would have no sin, but now they have no excuse for their sin.

Notice the colt was tied to a doorpost...a place where two ways met. What do you think is the significance of this colt being tied in a doorway of two paths?

FOR GOD SO LOVED!

Jhn 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

1Jo 4:7 ¶ Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. 8 He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. 9 In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him. 10 Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son [to be] the propitiation for our sins. 11 Beloved, if God so loved us, we ought also to love one another. 12 ¶ No man hath seen God at any time. If we love one another, God dwelleth in us, and his love is perfected in us. 13 Hereby know we that we dwell in him, and he in us, because he hath given us of his Spirit. 14 And we have seen and do testify that the Father sent the Son [to be] the Saviour of the world. 15 Whosoever shall confess that Jesus is the Son of God, God dwelleth in him, and he in God. 16 And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him. 17 ¶ Herein is our love made perfect, that we may have boldness in the day of judgment: because as he is, so are we in this world. 18 There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. 19 We love him, because he first loved us. 20 ¶ If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen? 21 And this commandment have we from him, That he who loveth God love his brother also.

Let's show the LOVE of CHRIST this Easter as we remember; what JESUS did for us.. wub.gif
