PARIS (AFP) - An Internet game site based on Roman Britain has staged a "virtual crucifixion" of one of its players to punish him for breaking the rules.

The site Roma Victor (http://www.roma-victor.com/) is an online recreation of life in Britain 2,000 years ago, in which players live as slaves and citizens under the Roman empire.

Cynewulf -- in real life a 27-year-old electrical engineer from Flint, Michigan -- has been electronically nailed to a cross where he will hang "for a full seven days on full public display," the site said on Friday.

His punishment is for "ganking", or repeatedly gang-killing new players as soon as they appear, thus destroying their chance of getting to grips with the game.

Gamers on the site have the opportunity of insulting Cynewulf as they pass by his cross in a public square.

Online game sites usually punish cheats by bans ranging from a few hours, days or weeks, with bad transgressors getting lifetime bans, although such punishments are usually very discreet and never made public.

These games make a mockery of Christ's substitution for us. I think the church needs to speak up about this one. What can we all do??

i dont really think its an insult to christ because in history the nailing on the cross is the most harshest punishment given to a criminal well in old roman times the cross was a symbol of death which many christians were being killed the cross became a christian symbol coz constantine made it that way

Bogoy,

It was made a mockery, in my opinion, because it was carried out during Easter Week, the week that the Lord was crucified. They could have done it any other time, but they picked the wrong week to irritate Christians. I think it's just another sign of the times.

Pray. Although I think stuff like this is sickening I am leary about convincing gov'ts to make laws against it. Mainly because the gov't will listen to who has the most power. What happens when a group hostile to Christians assumes more power? The legislative process to enforce "morality" is already in place and they can easily start enforcing what they think is right or wrong. At the expense of us Christians and anyone else who disagrees with them.

But like I said, I think it's disgusting.

Yeah thats really sick. People have no respect for anything anymore. Oh well prayer is all that can be done, but even then Father said times are to become increasingly more evil. This will be moderate to the crazy things we'll probably see in the future.
