End-Time Calling
Man I just went to the Sebastian inlet and got pummeled. Does anyone here surf. I am in florida. Treasure Coast. Surf Capital of the east coast.
Roxygal
Hey... my son's name is Sebastian! My husband surfs a lot... I do a little... I love the water. We live in Va Beach.

Every year they have the East Coast surfing championships here. Don't know why because we really don't have good waves. NC is a lot better... more shark attacks though. Ouch!

Give me some fresh powder and a snowboard and I'm happy!!!
No sharks... just trees! blink.gif

I like body surfing, But that does not count LOL. I grew up in a country town and did not see the ocean often enough to learn how to surf for real. I love the beach though. biggrin.gif salt water is good for the skin.

End time calling.
Are you hurt.?

I love the water-swimming and boating, but I never tried surfing.
My husband tried to get me to water ski, and all that was good for
was a laugh. Honestly my children thought I looked hilarious.
laugh.gif
I got up and then fell down. I was scared to go anywhere.

Okay then I actually tried it again. Letting go of the rope when you fall
down is a good thing. My husband said he hollered rosie let go of the rope.
First I fall down after getting up. No problem letting go of the rope. Then I actually get going pretty good, wipe out and hang on for dear life. Go figure.

I am sorry you got wiped out. But I hope you didn't get hurt.
I really would like to try surfing. Okay I thought about it, maybe not.
Pamela
If you call accidently sliding down a couple of stairs then landing flat on your behind as surfing, then yeah...

Sounds like surfing is fun though I live only 65 miles away from the Gulf Coast I hardly make it down there.

I'd tell your hubby to do a TANDEM JUMP..that way you don't have to go through all the training and you'll feel more secure with SOMEONE ELSE pulling the parachute!! LOL!! I did!! He was nice looking too!!!! BAWHAAAA!!

The tandem jumping is a little bit more expensive....but is worth it. I think I paid $140.00 when I went. They can even video tape the entire experience with music and all...I wish I would have done that!

You should go!!! he heeeeeeeeeeeee!! The worst part is the plane ride up. 2 miles up in the air at 10,000 feet or whatever....the best part is the FREE FALLING!! The next time I'd want to free fall as long as I could and then have em' pull the shoot!!

biggrin.gif

Editing in..........Hey ADSTAR...when can I join you there in Australia at the Barrier Reef!!!! Yipeeeeeee!! Would love to visit such a beautiful country!!

I grew up in Virginia Beach and made regular trips to Cape Hatteras Island. When I turned 18 I moved and lived there till I was 30.

Back in the day I remember taking on 25' + monsters. Oh, those were the days.

Trust me, you haven't been pummeled till you've gone over the falls on one of those into a sandbar with only 6' of water over it.

BTW, I was also the captain of the water rescue and search & recovery dive team while I was there. Try launching a zodiak boat (before jet skis were in use) off the beach and out through that size surf to do rescues. Now that was fun!

Sebastian can get some tasty waves, but I'd NEVER call it the "surf capital of the east coast",. Not even close.

As far as waves go, I'd put Sebastian on par with Manasquan Inlet in New Jersey.

Wow Diverteach!!! small world! I live in Va Beach... don't know if you read my post after his original one. When did you leave? I love Hatteras. We're thinking about moving down that way soon. The waves down there definately can get crazy! I took my jetski out when hurricane felix was off the coast... not a recommended move!!! You probably would have had to rescue me if I stayed out there any longer than I did. Definately the most stupid thing I've ever done!! wacko.gif

Spanish House, The inlet. Dude where is there more consistant waves on the East Coast. In any case I never said it was da pipe or anything. YEah I'm in Sebastian which is right next to Vero Beach. But I used to live in TYler, Texas. Bout 100 miles east of Dallas. I'm going back this summer to have my baby, with my family. And YEah diveteach I believe ya, but pummeled is pummeled, its still a bummer.

My parents still live there and I come up there from Florida at Christmas every year now.

I graduated Kempsville High in 1984.
Roxygal
Cool... I moved up here from Tarpon Springs, FL in '86 ... graduated Kellam in '87... So I didn't really get to know many people in High school... Oh well!
Gelica

Hi, I live in Florida, too. I have body surfed in Daytona. It was GREAT! I loved it. THe waves in Daytona get kind of high, but not high enough for experienced surfers, I think. So body surfing COUNTS! DO IT!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, hang ten, or whatever!

You know it's funny, as Marta said when she lived in Texas and near the ocean, not really going that much. I was raised in LA and also really didn't go that much either. I LOVE the ocean. It holds a great peace for me. I miss it and regret on some small level not going as much when I had the chance.

By the way, I don't surf, (used to boogie board though), but my cat has been known to ride some righteous waves dude! blink.gif
End-Time Calling
Yeah boogie boarding counts. That is fun too. I went to the spanish house today and the wind was killing the surf, so I busted out the boogie board. Its real deep there though, I feel kinda like a shrimp on a hook waiting to be eaten. Creepy feeling. But as soon as I got out a dolphin swam by where I was. Pretty cool. But it would've scared me to death if I was out there, cause first I just saw the dorsle fin.
Roxygal
Yeah, I know that feeling well!!! The water is so murky here.... nothing like florida, for sure! We have a lot of dolphins up here that hug the coast... I've been in the water a few times when that dorle fin came first.... you get that electricity feeling course through your whole body. Better than coffee!

Have you tried Kiteboarding? I haven't yet, but I think that will be my next adventure.
End-Time Calling
No but I see people doing it alot here lately. Me and my wife are like "man that looks like fun, but probably hard". Oh well if the opertunity presents itself I will definetly try it. Looks crazy fun.
