I found this article about MSG and thought it would be useful to pass along...
The author is unknown they just want the article out there......

I wondered if there could be an actual chemical causing the massive obesity epidemic, so did a friend of mine, John Erb. He was a research assistant at the University of Waterloo, and spent years working for the government.

He made an amazing discovery while going through scientific journals for a book he was writing called The Slow Poisoning of America. In hundreds of studies around the world, scientists were creating obese mice and rats to use in diet or diabetes test studies.

No strain of rat or mice is naturally obese, so the scientists have to create them. They make these morbidly obese creatures by injecting them with a chemical when they are first born. The MSG triples the amount of insulin the pancreas creates, causing rats (and humans?) to become obese They even have a title for the race of fat rodents they create: "MSG-Treated Rats" .

MSG?

I was shocked too. I went to my kitchen, checking the cupboards and the fridge.

MSG was in everything! The Campbell's soups, the Hostess Doritos, the Lays flavored potato chips, Top Ramen, Betty Crocker Hamburger Helper, Heinz canned gravy, Swanson frozen prepared meals, Kraft salad dressings, especially the 'healthy low fat' ones. The items that didn't have MSG had something called Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein, which is just another name for Monosodium Glutamate. It was shocking to see just how many of the foods we feed our children everyday are filled with this stuff. They hide MSG under many different names in order to fool those who catch on.

But it didn't stop there. When our family went out to eat, we started asking at the restaurants what menu items had MSG. Many employees, even the managers, swore they didn't use MSG. But when we ask for the ingredient list, which they grudgingly provided, sure enough MSG and Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein were everywhere. Burger King, McDonalds, Wendy's, Taco Bell, every restaurant, even the sit down ones like TGIF, Chilis', Applebees and Denny's use MSG in abundance. Kentucky Fried Chicken seemed to be the WORST offender: MSG was in every chicken dish, salad dressing and gravy. No wonder I loved to eat that coating on the skin, their secret spice was MSG!

So why is MSG in so may of the foods we eat? Is it a preservative or a vitamin?

Not according to my friend John. In the book he wrote, an expose of the food additive industry called The Slow Poisoning of America, (www.spofamerica.com ), he said that MSG is added to food for the addictive effect it has on the human body.

Even the propaganda website sponsored by the food manufacturers lobby group supporting MSG at http://www.msgfacts.com/facts/msgfact12.html explains that the reason they add it to food is to make people eat more. A study of elderly people showed that people eat more of the foods that it is added to. The Glutamate Association lobby group says eating more benefits the elderly, but what does it do to the rest of us?

'Betcha can't eat just one', takes on a whole new meaning where MSG is concerned!

And we wonder why the nation is overweight? The MSG manufacturers themselves admit that it addicts people to their products. It makes people choose their product over others, and makes people eat more of it than they would if MSG wasn't added.

Not only is MSG scientifically proven to cause obesity, it is an addictive substance: NICOTINE for FOOD!

Since its introduction into the American food supply fifty years ago, MSG has been added in larger and larger doses to the prepackaged meals, soups, snacks and fast foods we are tempted to eat everyday.

The FDA has set no limits on how much of it can be added to food. They claim it's safe to eat in any amount.

How can they claim it is safe when there are hundreds of scientific studies with titles like these?

The monosodium glutamate (MSG) obese rat as a model for the study of exercise in obesity. Gobatto CA, Mello MA, Souza CT, Ribeiro IA. Res Commun Mol Pathol Pharmacol. 2002

Adrenalectomy abolishes the food-induced hypothalamic serotonin release in both normal and monosodium glutamate-obese rats. Guimaraes RB, Telles MM, Coelho VB, Mori RC, Nascimento CM, Ribeiro Brain Res Bull. 2002 Aug

Obesity induced by neonatal monosodium glutamate treatment in spontaneously hypertensive rats: an animal model of multiple risk factors. Iwase M, Yamamoto M, Iino K, Ichikawa K, Shinohara N, Yoshinari Fujishima

Hypertens Res. 1998 Mar

Hypothalamic lesion induced by injection of monosodium glutamate in suckling period and subsequent development of obesity. Tanaka K, Shimada M, Nakao K, Kusunoki Exp Neurol. 1978 Oct

Yes, that last study was not a typo, it WAS written in 1978. Both the medical research community and food "manufaturers" have known MSG's side effects for decades!

Many more studies mentioned in John Erb's book link MSG to Diabetes,

Migraines and headaches, Autism, ADHD and even Alzheimer's.

But what can we do to stop the food manufactures from dumping fattening and addictive MSG into our food supply and causing the obesity epidemic we now see?

Even as you read this, George W. Bush and his corporate supporters are pushing a Bill through Congress. Called the "Personal Responsibility in Food Consumption Act" also known as the "Cheeseburger Bill", this sweeping law bans anyone from suing food manufacturers, sellers and distributors. Even if it comes out that they purposely added an addictive chemical to their foods. Read about it for yourself at: http://www.yahoo.com.http://story.news.yahoo.com/news? tmpl=story&u=/ap/20040311/ap_on_go_co/obesity_lawsuits_4

The Bill has already been rushed through the House of Representatives, and is due for the same rubber stamp at Senate level. It is important that Bush and his corporate supporters get it through before the media lets everyone know about MSG, the intentional Nicotine for food.

Several months ago, John Erb took his book and his concerns to one of the highest government health officials in Canada. While sitting in the Government office, the official told him "Sure I know how bad MSG is, I wouldn't touch the stuff!" But this top level government official refused to tell the public what he knew.

The big media doesn't want to tell the public either, fearing legal issues with their advertisers. It seems that the fallout on the fast food industry may hurt their profit margin.

So what do we do?

The food producers and restaurants have been addicting us to their products for years, and now we are paying the price for it.

Our children should not be cursed with obesity caused by an addictive food additive.

But what can I do about it? I'm just one voice, what can I do to stop the poisoning of our children, while guys like Bush are insuring financial protection for the industry that is poisoning us.

I for one am doing something about it.

I am sending this email out to everyone I know in an attempt to show you the truth that the corporate owned politicians and media won't tell you.

The best way you can help save yourself and your children from this drug-induced epidemic, is to forward this email to everyone. With any luck, it will circle the globe before Bush can pass the Bill protecting those who poisoned us.

The food industry learned a lot from the tobacco industry. Imagine if big tobacco had a bill like this in place before someone blew the whistle on Nicotine?

Blow the whistle on MSG.

If you are one of the few who can still believe that MSG is good for us, and you don't believe what John Erb has to say, see for yourself. Go to the National Library of Medicine, at www.pubmed.com
http://www.pubmed.com . Type in the words "MSG Obese", and read a few of the 115 medical studies that appear.

We do not want to be rats in one giant experiment, and we do not approve of food that makes us into a nation of obese, lethargic, addicted sheep, waiting for the slaughter.

With your help we can put an end to this, and stop the Slow Poisoning of America. Let's save our children

Hidden Sources Of MSG In Foods
From the book 'Excitotoxins - The Taste That Kills'
By Dr. Russell Blaylock, MD
3-6-3

What if someone were to tell you that a chemical (MSG) added to food could cause brain damage in your children, and that this chemical could effect how your children's nervous systems formed during development so that in later years they may have learning or emotional difficulties?

What if there was scientific evidence that these chemicals could permanently damage a critical part of the brain known to control hormones so that later in life your child might have endocrine problems? How would you feel?

Suppose evidence was presented to you strongly suggesting that the artificial sweetener in your diet soft drink may cause brain tumors to develop, and that the number of brain tumors reported since the introduction of this widespread introduction of this artificial sweetener has risen dramatically? Would that affect your decision to drink these products and especially to allow your children to drink them? What if you could be shown overwhelming evidence that one of the main ingredients in this sweetener (aspartate) could cause the same brain lesions as MSG? Would that affect your buying decisions?

And finally, what if it could be demonstrated that all of these types of chemicals, called excitotoxins, could possibly aggravate or even precipitate many of today's epidemic neurodegenerative brain diseases such as Parkinson's disease, Huntington's disease, ALS, and Alzheimer's disease? Would you be concerned if you knew that these excitotoxin food additives are a particular risk if you have diabetes, or have ever had a stroke, brain injury, brain tumor, seizure, or have suffered from hypertension, meningitis, or viral encephalitis?

Would you also be upset to learn that many of the brain lesions caused by these products in your children are irreversible and can result from a SINGLE exposure of these products in sufficient concentration?

How would you feel when you learn the food industry hides and disguises these excitotoxin additives (MSG and Aspartate) so they can't be recognized? Incredulous? Enraged? The fact is many foods are labeled as having "No MSG" but in fact not only contain MSG but also are laced with other excitotoxins of equal potency and danger.

All of the above are true. And all of these well known brain toxins are poured into our food and drink by the thousands of tons to boost sales. These additives have NO OTHER purpose other than to enhance to TASTE of food and the SWEETNESS of various diet products.

Hidden Sources Of MSG
As discussed previously, the glutamate (MSG) manufacturers and the processed food industries are always on a quest to disguise the MSG added to food. Below is a partial list of the most common names for disguised MSG. Remember also that the powerful excitotoxins, aspartate and L-cystine, are frequently added to foods and according to FDA rules require NO LABELING AT ALL.
* Food Additives that ALWAYS contain MSG *

Monosodium Glutamate
Hydrolyzed Vegetable Protein
Hydrolyzed Protein
Hydrolyzed Plant Protein
Plant Protein Extract
Sodium Caseinate
Calcium Caseinate
Yeast Extract
Textured Protein (Including TVP)
Autolyzed Yeast
Hydrolyzed Oat Flour
Corn Oil

* Food Additives That FREQUENTLY Contain MSG *

Malt Extract
Malt Flavoring
Bouillon
Broth
Stock
Flavoring
Natural Flavors/Flavoring
Natural Beef Or Chicken Flavoring
Seasoning
Spices

* Food Additives That MAY Contain MSG Or Excitotoxins *

Carrageenan
Enzymes
Soy Protein Concentrate
Soy Protein Isolate
Whey Protein Concentrate
Also: Protease Enzymes of various sources can release excitotoxin amino acids from food proteins.
Aspartame - An Intense Source Of Excitotoxins
Aspartame is a sweetener made from two amino acids, phenylalanine and the excitotoxin aspartate. It should be avoided at all costs. Aspartame complaints accounts for approximately 70% of ALL complaints to the FDA. It is implicated in everything from blindness to headaches to convulsions. Sold under dozens of brand names such as NutraSweet and Equal, aspartame breaks down within 20 minutes at room temperature into several primary toxic and dangerous ingredients:
1. DKP (diketopiperazine) (When ingested, converts to a near duplicate of
a powerful brain tumor causing agent)
2. Formic Acid (ant venom)
3. Formaldehyde (embalming fluid)
4. Methanol (causes blindness...extremely dangerous substance)
Common Examples:
Diet soft drinks, sugar free gums, sugar free Kool Aid, Crystal Light, childrens' medications, and thousands of other products claiming to be 'low calorie', 'diet', or 'sugar free'.
A Final Note...
Dr. Blaylock recounted a meeting with a senior executive in the food additive industry who told him point blank that these excitotoxins are going to be in our food no matter how many name changes are necessary...

Ahhhhh, child! You are catching on. But you are way before your time. Not but a hanful will listen yet. Soon, very soon, but until insurance is paying more than food people are saving in perservatives...you will get no where. money has to fight money. Not even the voice of a mighty loud public will. Too many people want their food "cheap". That means able to hold shelf life. It is plastic, child. You would get more nutrition from eating at your childs play table with the toy vegies....as I said earlier....most American urinate plastic. Hydrogenilized oils ae 1 molecule from plastic. YOUR BODY CAN'T EAT PLASTIC!!!!!!!!!!

But let's keep shouting it anyway....eventually someone listened to Columbus too.

Pamela... WOW! I never knew any of that... I heard MSG gave you headaches if you ate chinese food, but never knew any of this stuff! An eye opener for sure! Thank you... gonna read those labels way more closely now! Maybe some of this is contributing to my son's migraines. Never can be too informed now, can we... and the TRUTH will set us FREE! MSG FREE!!

Leia, you're so right... keep shouting. The squeaky wheel always gets the grease! (Most americans urinate plastic?? Oh my... that's one more thing I don't think I WANTED to know...!)

Pamela, Good good article. I have done extensive study on monosodium glutamate and preservatives. I pray that people will listen. This stuff is in so much food. By law the food companies are suppose to list if there is MSG in their product but there is a way around it by them not having to list if there is msg used in an ingredient that they include in "their" product. A loop hole as they say. You have to be so careful. Just don't eat packaged and canned food if you can get away from it and buy organic is you can find it and can afford it. About 12 years ago i had headaches, memory problems and problems with my nervous system. All attributed to these chemicals. It was so bad that I wouldn't even go to the grocery store without someone because I couldn't remember where I parked the car or why I was there and then would panic. I prayed and asked the Lord to show me why because by all signs I was healthy and the LORD lead me to this info and a doctor that understood. It was hard to change eating habits for me and the whole family but Praise the LORD we did. I share with those that I meet about eating fresh and organic but most don't believe there is anything to it. Please......everybody that reads this thread please do some research and start making some little changes and see what a big difference it will make.
Thankyou Pamela for starting this thread. 1dsz5h2.gif

Just wanted to add that this can also be found in meats. Organic is best for now until people will start to listen and the food companies make some changes.

Wow Pamela!! Thanks for posting this!!

I've always stayed away from msg and most prepackaged stuff. I never found all those ingredients that I couldn't pronounce too appetizing tongue.gif

I try to incorporate organic foods wherever possible. My father in law used to laugh at me because I'd buy organic milk, butter and cheese... but I didn't care. They put so many hormones and crazy chemicals in everything... it's amazing that we don't have new ears popping out on our elbows. laugh.gif

Yup... buy organic and stay away from prepackaged junk food...
ok... mommy will stop preaching now smile.gif
RosielovesJesus
Thanks for that article Pamela.
I used to get severe headaches after eating chinese food.
Someone told me that I probably am very sensitive to MSG.
After that I have avoided MSG as much as possible and come to
think of it, I don't get many headaches anymore.

I try to eat fresh food and make everything from scratch.
But gee even in some of the ingredients we use it can be in
there.
This has been a real eye opener.
I have been hearing more about MSG lately.
I did some research on it once years ago and I found out it just isn't
good for anyone.

Thanks Pamela, for bringing this to our attention!

Rose, I found out that if my children and I don't drink enough water we start
to get a headache sometimes. Someone else told me that happens to them. Many of us
are walking around dehydrated. When we feel thirsty we are already too dry.

I have found out when I start to get a headache and I go and drink a glass of water, the headache will stop. Sometimes I forget that we should all drink about 8 glasses of water a day.
Water is so important for our whole body. Our major organs all work better with adequate water.
God bless,
from rosie

I always kind of wanted that third eye though.... laugh.gif Just kidding...

Yes, when we started to eat organic, just about 3 weeks ago, man what a difference...We have incorporated so many green foods in as well. I have the whole family on a chicken and fish diet with one day being a red meat day..Tilapa, salmon and chicken, no skin...
We were eating to much red meat and were beginning to feel the affects of it...I wish I had done this a long time ago.
So any tips Lisa throw them my way....thanks

Thank you, Pamela, for this information. I'm one of the unfortunate masses (hmmm--I'm pondering that--yes, I guess I'm a mass!) who get migraines from msg. I avoid the stuff like the plague, but it's impossible to avoid completely, because like your information points out, it's in EVERYTHING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Why on earth does it need to be in everything? I've thought about a class action lawsuit on behalf of the people who are made sick by it, with the desired outcome of having it removed from food, not financial compensation, but I would have no idea how to even do such a thing. I know a lawyer, and that's about it. It's just frustrating to have to drug yourself to get over a debilitating headache several times a month when you didn't realize you ate something that had that garbage in it.

I love this forum--I've learned so much here, even just today. Keep it coming! (Now I feel selfish--I'm always on the receiving end!) And thanks!

I have a product I use on every meat I cook to add flavor and for tenderizing. It's also used in stews and soups...its a spice called Accent....well the list of ingredients in only one thing...yep, you got it MSG!! Thats all, I have been putting pure MSG on a lot of my foods....not counting what may already be in it. Again, thanks for calling my attention to this....My Accent bottle is in the trash now!! 1dsz5h3.gif 1dsz5e4.gif

Yeah...

I think fast food joints probably bathe their fries and burders in the junk... cause there is something about the food. If you ask the average toddler what their favorite food is- at least half will name something from McDonalds.
It is addictive and very harmful. Anyone see Supersize It? EWWWW.

Yep, we saw that program...The part that gave me the biggest heeebeeejeeebees is when they did that experiment at the end with different foods from BK & MD and how they breakdown. The MD french fries after months were still in the same condition and were not breaking down. All the other bugers and ff were long gone. That was an eye opener for sure, the whole program was...

His love abides,

Take a look at your shampoo for me. If there is an ingredient called DEA, you need to switch. Actually, you will find it in any shampoo that lathers and is not organic. I hate to add another item to the "should be cu t out" list, but DEA immediately is taken in by the scalp and that is the main reason for short term memory loss they are finding. It is the thing that is added so that it will suds up.

I used to do the same thing....wander into a room and wonder why I was there. Except it was getting bad. Then God pointed that out, I got organic and it never happens to me anymore. From bad to none is enough for me.

You can buy nonsudsing or their are some good sudsing organics. Again...it is all about price.

By the way, the stuff is extremely toxic to a fetus and is taken by them through the mother immediately. Can cause fetus death but you never hear about it being linked to that.

I found this article:

Toxic Shampoos

from Healthy Living and Aubrey Organics

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

We would like to think that all of our investigative reporting on the hazardous ingredients in cosmetic products is making a difference among manufacturers. It is among some, and we've helped a number of companies who've come to us to clean up their products. Some companies, of course, like Aubrey Organics, never needed our help. They've gotten it all along. They've been producing toxin-free shampoos for a long time. But perhaps you've never really truly appreciated the advantages of nontoxic cosmetics. If so, we hope that this report will demonstrate their importance to your health.

Certainly, when it comes to some of the nation's most popular mainstream shampoos, we get the feeling some companies still don't get it. They don't understand that a growing number of consumers expect more from their products, including the absence of potentially hazardous chemicals. This is especially the case for a whole generation of younger consumers who expect no less than truly natural, toxin-free ingredients.

DEA in Shampoos

Take the case of the suspect cancer-causing agent diethanolamine (DEA), which is used as an emulsifier and foaming agent in shampoos. We reported early on that the federal National Toxicology Program (NTP) completed a study in 1998 that found an association between the topical application of diethanolamine and certain DEA-related ingredients and cancer in laboratory animals. For the DEA-related ingredients, the NTP study suggested that the carcinogenic response was linked to possible residual levels of DEA. The NTP study did not establish a link between DEA and the risk of cancer in humans. But when a substance causes cancer in laboratory animals, it is a warning we must take seriously.

In this case, we noted, there is an added concern. The presence of DEA in cosmetics, including shampoos, can also lead to formation of nitrosamines, which are powerful carcinogens. Many nitrosamines have been determined to cause cancer in laboratory animals and have also been linked with human cancer. These have also been shown to penetrate the skin. The FDA expressed its concern about the contamination of cosmetics with nitrosamines in a notice published in the Federal Register of April 10, 1979 (44 FR 21365). It stated that cosmetics containing nitrosamines may be considered adulterated and subject to enforcement action, though the agency has never demonstrated a willingness to take meaningful enforcement action in this regard. Thus, in DEA we have both a suspected carcinogen and a clear-cut carcinogen precursor.

As if this were not enough, shampoo manufacturers are also using many types of other ingredients (known as ethoxylated alcohols) that are frequently contaminated with 1,4-dioxane, and we have reported on these products, too.

Manufacturing Tricks

When news came out about the cancer-causing potential of DEA, many shampoo manufacturers looked at their labels and realized their products contained DEA or cocamide DEA, both chemicals being cited in the NTP study as cancer-causing. So what did they do? And why did they do it? Apparently more for marketing reasons than consumer health, many manufacturers then decided to eliminate cocamide DEA and instead use substitute ingredients like lauramide DEA — but, manufacturers soon learned, this chemical was also found to be cancer-causing by the same federal program. Consumer outcry and pressure led to its removal from some, but not all, shampoo products.

Nevertheless, instead of waking up to the fact that it might be smart to simply keep DEA derivatives out of their products, many shampoo manufacturers went on to a chemical not yet tested by the NTP but that still contains DEA. If you look at many of the shampoo products today, you will see they list cocamide MEA on their labels. Of cocamide MEA, the FDA says it is one "of the most commonly used ingredients that may contain DEA." So though not tested, it can nevertheless be considered a chemical of concern. In addition, under certain circumstances, it can also cause nitrosamine formation. Alberto VO5 and St. Ives shampoos contain or have contained lauramide DEA. Aussie, Clairol, Dove, Finesse, Herbal Essences, and Neutrogena are examples of shampoos that all list cocamide MEA as an ingredient.
If We Were Winning the War on Cancer

None of this would matter much, if we were winning the war on cancer. But we aren't. In 1999, it was noted that one in two American men and one in three American women get cancer. In the 1950s, one in four Americans were afflicted with this deadly disease. Despite the expenditure of $25 billion since President Nixon declared the war on cancer in 1971, cancer rates have soared. Dr. Samuel Epstein, professor emeritus of environmental and occupational health at the University of Illinois, points out that from 1950 to 1998, the overall incidence of cancer rose about 60 percent, with much higher increases for specific cancers. For non-Hodgkin's lymphoma and multiple myeloma, the increase has been 200 percent. Breast cancers have increased by 60 percent. Prostate cancer has increased 200 percent. In men aged 28 to 35, there has been a 300 percent increase in testicular cancer since 1950. And don't let anybody fool you into thinking that the cancer rate increase is because the population is getting older -- these rates are age-adjusted. The cancer rates of a group of 50-year old men in 1990, for example, are compared to the cancer rates of a group of men in 1950.

No matter what shampoo manufacturers tell you, part of this rise is caused by our overall bodily burden of cancerous chemicals, which has increased greatly over the years. Placing small amounts of free DEA into shampoos might not seem like a big deal in and of itself. But as consumers and parents, we have to look at this small amount of DEA in the context of all the other cumulative exposures from all other consumer products. Lots of little drops of rain add up to a lot of rain. Lots of little drops of chemical carcinogens add up to a lot of carcinogens. Thus, it makes sense to reduce exposure to cancer-causing chemicals whenever possible. You can with shampoos from Aubrey Organics.

Prescription for Healthy Living-Shampoos

The point we're making is that you can have beautiful, healthy hair without chemical toxins. In this way you will also protect your health. We recommend that Aubrey Organics' shampoos be the shampoo of choice in all homes today.

Availability—Aubrey Organics' shampoos are widely available at natural health centers nationwide. To find a location in your community, call Aubrey Organics toll-free at (800) AUBREY-H (272-7394) or visit their website at www.aubrey-organics.com and use their store locator service.

Commonly Used Ingredients That May Contain DEA

With the exception of color additives and a few prohibited ingredients, cosmetics and personal care products are among the least-regulated consumer products today. A cosmetic manufacturer may use almost any raw material as a cosmetic ingredient. The following are some of the most commonly used ingredients that may contain DEA:
Cocamide DEA
Cocamide MEA
DEA-Cetyl Phosphate
DEA Oleth-3 Phosphate
Lauramide DEA
Linoleamide MEA
Myristamide DEA
Oleamide DEA
Stearamide MEA
TEA-Lauryl Sulfate
Triethanolamine
Nontoxic Shampoos

Aubrey Hampton and Susan Hussey of Tampa, Florida's Aubrey Organics have long understood what we are talking about.

Commonly Used Ingredients That May Contain DEA

With the exception of color additives and a few prohibited ingredients, cosmetics and personal care products are among the least-regulated consumer products today. A cosmetic manufacturer may use almost any raw material as a cosmetic ingredient. The following are some of the most commonly used ingredients that may contain DEA:
Cocamide DEA
Cocamide MEA
DEA-Cetyl Phosphate
DEA Oleth-3 Phosphate
Lauramide DEA
Linoleamide MEA
Myristamide DEA
Oleamide DEA
Stearamide MEA
TEA-Lauryl Sulfate
Triethanolamine
Nontoxic Shampoos

Nor do Aubrey's shampoos contain ethoxylated alcohols such as sodium laureth sulfate that are frequently contaminated with another cancer-causing chemical of concern, 1,4-dioxane. About 12 years ago i had headaches, memory problems and problems with my nervous system. All attributed to these chemicals. It was so bad that I wouldn't even go to the grocery store without someone because I couldn't remember where I parked the car or why I was there and then would panic.

Can cause fetus death but you never hear about it being linked to that.
leia

Thankyou leia for bringing that up. Yes i forgot to mention all the soaps and detergents, cosmetics that we use. You really have to watch and read, read, read all labels. It is hard to find products without something it in but they are out there just have to keep looking. But if you guys can start small like Gypsylass did and just throw out the small things first and then keep going from there. Of course accent is one of the worst. Praise the Lord, Gypsylass I am so happy you threw that out. I also did research way back on the fastfood places. If you guys like one particular popular chicken place they use MSG in everything from what they have said in the past unless they have changed their practices. This stuff is used in the broth that enhances your meat also. It is a flavor enhancer. So basically we are getting a lesser grade product with this stuff added and the price increased. As others have said try getting rid of one or two items a week and add organic and remember don't go down those center aisles at the grocery store. Go to the produce, dairy and meat. Buy your paper products somewhere else if you can. Buy organic when possible. No boxed, canned or prepared foods is the best way to go.

And many more products are also made with mineral oil. I used to teach a class in my presentations about ingredients. One of the things I learned was that mineral oil is the # 1 most used ingredient in American skin care.

Here are a few facts:

Mineral oil is the #1 most used ingredient in American skin care. A mixture of refined liquid hydrocarbons derived from petroleum. Mineral oil and all petroleum-based ingredients are products of BLACK CRUDE OIL..
In Switzerland it is illegal to use mineral oil in hospitals.
Mineral oil costs about $11.00 a gallon, as compared to essential oils which can cost as much as $100.00 a gallon. Mineral oil's molecular size is to large to be absorbed by the skin, thus it forms a film on the skin's surface blocking the pores natural respiration and secretions process, as well as abosrption of other nutrients.

Lanolin: Oily excretion of sheep, lanolin is a common lubricating ingredient in skin formulas. Extracted from the wool, lanolin has been indicated as a cause of allergic skin reactions in sensitive people.

Collagen: An animal product, collagen is added to formuals as a moisturzing agent. Collagen molecules are too large to penetrate the skin and can therefore clog pores blocking the skin's own natural respiration and secretions process and aborsoration of other nutrients.

Chemical Dye and Fragrances: Formulated chemically from a wide variety of sources. Artificial colors are known to cause allergic reactions. Chemical fragances have been known to cause reactions and photosensitivity in some people. There are an abundance of herbs and botanicals that serve the same purpose, hence there simply is no need to add chemical dyes and fragrances to skin care formulations.

SD40 Alcohol/Alcohols: Strips the skins natural acid mantle, exposing the pores to bacteria and germs. "Skin care products that strip do much more than cause skin problems, they leave pores exposed allowing bacterial growth in the pores which is where these harmful elements enter the blood stream and cause illness or even death," reported Dr. Bruce Hensel.

Free Radicals and Antioxidants: Free radicals are highlyreactive molecules that can bind to and destroy body components. Free radical or "oxidative" damage is what makes your skin age. Free radicals have also been shown to be responsible for the initiation of many diseases, including heart disease and cancer. Antioxidants are compounds that help protect against free radical damage. Antioxidants in the form of nutritional supplements as well as topical application give you the ammunition to fight off the aging process. Natural products are the way to go.

Here is a fast fact about animal by-products:

We hear this catch phrase all the time, "animal by-products" but who really knows what they are and where they come from? It is a nasty little secret that the cosmetic companies DON'T want you to know. In Howard F. Lyman's book, Mad Cowboy he tell us this secret....

Howard is a fouth generation diary farmer and cattle rancher. He grew up on a diary farm in Montana, and ran a feedlot operaton there for 20 years. He knows first hand how cattle are raised and how meat is produced in this country.

When a cow is slaughtered, about half of it by weight is not eaten by humans; this includes the intestines and their contents, the head, the hooves, the horns, as well as the bones and blood. These are dumped into giant grinders at rendering plants, as well as the entire bodies of cows and other farm animals known to be diseased.

There is simply no such thing in America as an animal too ravaged by disease, to cancerous, or too putrid to be welcomed by the all-embracing arms of the renderer.

Another staple of the renderer's diet, in addition to farm animals, is euthanized pets--six or seven million dog and cats are killed in animal shelters every year. Added to the blend are the wuthanized catch of animal control agencies, and road kill. (Road kill is not collected daily, so in the summer, the better road kill crews generally smell it before they can see it.) When this gruesome mix is ground and steamed cooked, the lighter, fatty material floating to the top gets refined for use in such products as cosmetics, soaps, lubricants, candles and waxes."

And that my friends, is the cold hard truth about where the animal-by products come from and that the cosmetic industry tries to pawn off onto the American public.

Ladies if you would like I can post a test for you to take to see if you may be estrogen dominate. Also, I can put on some information about hormones and being in balance. I was taught all this when I became a consultant.

I put together a packet that I would pass out to all the ladies that would come to class. This is information I gathered and made notes on from different material.

The packet is called W.I.N. which stands for Wellness Information Network.
Also my ministry is Wellness Ministry Center Services. I would mainly teach to the ladies about our hormones. We need to be inbalance to function properly. We digest a mega does of estrogen lined foods daily and this causes woman to become estrogen dominate. Also, this is one cause for women to gain weight without a knowing cause.

I will give the test first and then type up the packet that has valuable information for women....

ESTROGEN DOMINANCE/PROGESTERONE DEFICIENCY QUESTIONNAIRE

This questionnaire lists symptoms and other factors most commonly found in women suffering from this condition. By answering this questionnaire, your scores will determine whether or not your might have estrogen dominance/progesterone deficiency.
If you answer YES to any of the questions listed, circle the number to the right of the question and total your score at the bottom.

How stupid is the beast selling its people to poor health and death for the sake of sales. When they have killed all their people where do they think their fame and fortune will come from? Sounds like it is time to come out from among them and be separate.

Also changed my shampoo and conditioner to organic. It's amazing how the organic products have come along in the past few years. They even carry organic fish and meat products! I just bought some organic salmon last night... I must say, I can tell the difference in the taste which is an added bonus! Tonight we're trying the organic ground beef in spagetti... I'll let you know how it is. So how many times did I write organic? laugh.gif

Blessings to you!!
Love, Lisa

ps... Pamela, just saw the response to me...... don't know how I missed it! Thanks for the advise, I will keep it and do it again later next year. Now we all know who to come to.... paging Dr. Pamela... biggrin.gif

How do you get MSG out of your system? or does it just stay in your tissues or something?
C
I cleaned out my house years ago. All MSG went out and never entered again. Next to go was white sugar ( I will have a bit of raw honey in the house) no bread, white or brown, only Essene Bread or Rye bread. No white rice, potatoes..no refined carbs.
Organic meats and veg are welcome.I make my own butter sometimes and cottage cheese from unpasteurized milk. I make sour milk, buttermilk.Cooking gets done only in olive oil, palmfruit oil and extra virgin coconut oil. I add coconut milk to a lot of stuff.
We have been waking up in South Africa for some time now.Organic and fresh is big here. No more convenience foods. No more prepackaged frozen stuff. If it goes in a bottle I will put it there myself.
I eat lots of fresh organic fruit and veg.Lots of goatsmilk yogurt smile.gif
I add cod-liver oil, flax seed oil, Barley Green, probiotics and psyllium-husk to my diet.
HA laugh.gif there you have my eating habits ! I love food and have been losing weight, while eating like a king

Yeah C this is the type of diet were attempting to move to. We have already added in a lot of green foods, I have cooked with olive oil for years now. If I need to use flour it is 100% whole wheat. The last white product to go is pototoes and white rice. I just incorporated brown rice just a few weeks ago. We have a whole food market we go to and when we tried organic tilapia, salmon and chicken I just couldn't believe the difference. It tasted great and I don't see myself going back to supermarket meat again. We not big into prepackaged stuff, though my son is a big frozen pizza person. I haven't tried the different kinds of milks yet. One step at a time. Though I see it coming soon. Cow and soy milk are the only two kinds I've ever had.
It's to bad that this isn't the norm for all meat and veggie producers. It tastes so much better and you feel better.
Roxygal
Pamela,

You have to try the organic milk... it is soooo delicious!! I switched to it about 6 years ago. I recently tried regular milk at my brothers house and it tasted so horrible!! Yuk!!

Have you tried to make your own pizza's? You could make it ahead of time and freeze individual pieces for your son... I haven't done it, but now I just might! They're building a Whole food market place here... I can hardly wait!!

I've always used olive oil.. I never knew anything else existed (because we're greek) Lots of olive oil and garlic!! YUM! smile.gif

Don't do the soy thing as it is actually toxic. Avoid all soy.
If you can tolerate milk , it should be unpasteurized (difficult to get) When they pasteurized milk, they also turn it into a fine spray , before it becomes liquid again and the fats actually changes in structure, so it is absorbed in a different way.
Soy has estrogen and use to be taken by woman for that reason. Its a bad product. Estrogen is also released by plastic products so try to avoid food contact with non-food-grade plastic. Never microwave in plastic.

Maybe we should rather start a Be Healthy thread in What do you say or Just for Fun biggrin.gif

Good idea!! I think it would be beneficial for everyone to have a thread like that. Yes, I avoid all soy too... I haven't seen the unpasteurized milk yet, but I'll look for it the next time I'm at the farmers market... I bet they have it there.

There is a product called diamant film that is made with pvc-free plastic. They're trying to break out into the market (I actually own stock in this.. but it's not a plug for it) I bought the stock because I feel so strongly about the product. They're in Canada.
