Full Version: What Kind Of Crosses Are Safe To Wear?
Christian-Forum.net > General discussion > What do you say?

I haven't a cross necklace yet, and I plan on soon buying one. Which are the safest to wear?

I like the design of the celtic cross, but I know it's pagan, so I'm a bit nervous about it.

I would never wear a tau cross because that's obviously satanic, as the ankh is as well.

I was just originally planning to buy a plain rectangular cross, but I don't really want to wear just that. I want something a little more ornate...

I hope I don't sound shallow! Just asking.

I would suggest that if the cross, on which our Savior hung, is not acceptable, to wear no cross at all. There are some very nice "rectangular crosses" available. Then you will know that all who see you with it on, will know exactly where you stand.

Why do people need to wear any symbol at all?

I have my mom's cross... it makes me feel closer to her and let's me remember how great a mom she was that she brought me up in the Word.

I have 14 k crucifix that was given to me as a gift and a simple plastic cross on a hemp rope that I wear quite often. I like the idea of simplicity. But generally speaking your cross should reflect who you are. It will help draw people to you of common backgrounds. The celtic cross simply reflects your bloodline as well as your faith. Kind of like wearing a family tree around your neck. If you want to help bring people to Christ this will make certain people more comfortable with you. You will catch their eye even before you are aware of them.

I do believe that we as Christians should wear some sort of identification so that we can identify one another among the masses. It could be very useful in the times to come. I realize that God will eventually mark us, but until then the cross allows us to communicate without words.

I have a couple of different crosses. I wear one at a time. people mention how pretty it is. Which lets me tell them that it resembles what Jesus did for me. I use to work at a bank, and you know not much can be said, in that enviorment, but I did any way. When customers were having a tough thing going on, I would use that as a open door to ask them if they believe in prayer? That was cool. Made me get close to those folks. They appreciated that. I had one older gentleman said he had a certain kind of illness, which partly disfigured his face. So I prayed for him. The next time he came back, he said it was gone. He looked normal. So there was that door again.. I told him I prayed for him. His eyes sure brightened up. Many people are hurting out there. The Lord loves it when we call on him.

I was originally planning on just getting a plain rectangular cross and nothing more. I said "I hope I don't sound shallow!" to avoid a comment like that one.

I want to draw a little more attention to my cross because I go to a ghetto school and every other person wears one, most of them just out of the culture and not out of faith. I want them to notice my faith, not just think I'm "one of them". I like the celtic cross because it's more "gothic" (even though I dress preppy, I like goth too) and will stand out more.

As Sojourner said, I feel the cross I wear should reflect myself.
And as Flower Lady said, I need it to be a conversation starter, an "eye-opener" so-to-speak. I need to have a way to open the door to talk to people about Christ without just coming out of nowhere with it. I want to teach, but don't get very opportunities to do it. The cross'll help.

Plus, I just want to show my faith to everyone who sees me. Like a big sign on me that screams "I LOVE CHRIST!" laugh.gif

Thanks for y'all's advice smile.gif

I have met people wearing crosses who weren't christians and likewise, have instantly known a fellow christian upon meeting someone new though they wore no outer symbol denoting them as such. huh.gif

We know our fellow christian brothers and sisters by the fruits they show.... not the things they wear or even the things they say, sometimes. (False prophets)

If it were me, I think I'd get something simple and understated.... like Jesus. HE was a simple (by wordly standards), no frills guy who was known by his actions and mannerisms: patience, kindness, helpfulness, loving, forgiving, empathetic, righteous, truthful, champion of the down-trodden and those down-on their luck, etc. biggrin.gif

Good luck in whatever you decide, crazyhayashi!

Crazyhayashi,
I wish you the best in your ministry... I'll keep you in my prayers. I think your reasons are sound and your heart is good.... and you don't sound shallow... your fruits are showing! biggrin.gif

Just wanted to make sure you didn't take my last post wrong. blush.gif .... you asked what WE thought... and thats my 2 cents.... but God didn't make us all the same. He likes variety.... pray about it and He will open doors for you to witness for Him, with or without a crucifix.

I went outside the box....I wear a silver pendant on a silver rope necklace. The pendant is round and on one side is a tree with extending branches going in every direction. The tree and it's branches are craved deeply into the pendant. There are no leaves on anything on the branches. I have been asked by so many people about this necklace and what it means. I tell them that it is a symbol for the tree of life. It has opened up many a conversations on the Lord and has allowed me to witness about His goodness.....

So, I agree, go outside the box and find a necklace that suits you who are. You never know, it might not be a cross at all it could turn out to be something else to show your faith.

It's alright, I get what you're saying smile.gif

I make it pretty obvious that I'm a Christian, cross or no cross. My fruits obviously really show, even if I don't quite realise how. Someone will cuss in front of me then someone else will be like "Man, don't cuss in front of him, he's a preacher, you're offending him!". biggrin.gif Then again, I do have a tendency to carry a Bible around at school from time to time, but even if I didn't do that, they'd still know that I'm a Christian.

I should wear a giant Bible around my neck!! laugh.gif

I wish I could design my own necklace. It would be something with gold beads, with a shamrock representing the Trinity in front, then with a gold chain coming down with three gemstones on it, a ruby, an emerald, and a sapphire (Red-Green-Blue: the three colors that make up all others) then at the bottom of the gold chain have a yellow gold cross with a white gold dove in the center representing the Holy Spirit. That would be cool. Or overkill...probably both...

Or a white gold rectangular cross with a rose gold infinity symbol looping around its horizontal bar.

God does like variety though. Its kinda like:

Me: "God, why did you make all those stars and planets if the only life is on earth?"

GOD: "Because I felt like it! laugh.gif They're pretty... wub.gif "

I wear a cross with a heart around it. His love for us all.
I love Him and will never forget His ultimate sacrifice.

But Halleluiah my Lord is alive and well!

I have a cross it is on leather made of pony beads, and each color represents different parts of a Christian's belief's. Red represents Christs Blood that he shed to cover our sins this is found on top of the black bead, Black is our sin before redemption and is located at the bottom of the cross, white is us after our sins were covered found on the cross bar where Jesus was nailed by his hands, blue or purple beads represent the robe that Christ wore when He was being mocked, the green bead represents the everlasting life given to christians and the yellow bead represents the Holy Spirit Fire Annointing also....

This is a ruff placements of the beads on the leather strap, which symbolizes "by His stripes we are healed!"

I was trying to find a good guide to give you to make it on the internet.....But you can make it following diagram above and my directions....

start with the black bead at the bottom, and loop through the hole. With both ends of leather even, take both ends of leather and put through the red bead and the blue bead....seperate the two strands and fold and put a white bead on each small loop, bring two ends together again and put on green bead and yellow bead. This completes the cross. Youy can tie the two ends together to form necklace or add a bead and slide the two ends through in different direction through the beads hole, and tie a knot on each end. I used a piece of leather strap that was approximately 2 feet long. You can add to the length or shorten it, which ever you prefer. It is hard to put the strands of leather through the beads, but it can be done. I cut the ends of the leather at a 45 degree angle, and twisted as I worked it through the beads.

It is unique and has much meaning to the person wearing it!

I hope you find the cross that is right for you! wub.gif
crazyhayashi
Thanks y'all. I should buy one and make one of my own as well, that way I can swap from time to time, and my self-made one will have personal meaning as well. I just have to find that personal meaning to make a cross off of, because right now I don't have anything significant to base it off of.

I think the celtic crosses really catch my eye the most, but what stinks is that the designs I find that I like the most always wind up having triquetras on them!
God's Lamb
Ashi.....

Just a thought......I was at a Christian retreat many years ago......and they made us all crosses out of large nails.....the cross of nails hung from a rope like string with a knote between each bead of blue, green, yellow. ..guys or gals can wear them. Actually it was rather cool laugh.gif biggrin.gif When I wear it.....I am always asked about it. And then I have a chance to witness what the Lord has done in my life. wub.gif I too have many crosses....but most the time I wear a small gold and silver cross.

I like your post Ahsi.......and by the way.... your fruit does show..... biggrin.gif God Bless. wub.gif marie
