Students ban Christians in row over gays
By Ruth Gledhill, Religion Correspondent

A UNIVERSITY Christian Union has been suspended and had its bank account frozen after refusing to open its membership to people of all religions.

The Christian Union, an evangelical student organisation, has instructed lawyers and is threatening court proceedings against the Birmingham Guild of Students.

The Birmingham Christian Union has more than 100 members who attend meetings regularly and has been functioning at the university for 76 years.

Members claim the actions have been taken against them after they refused on religious grounds to make “politically correct” changes to their charitable constitution, including explicitly mentioning people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual or transgendered.

The Christian Union was advised that the use of the words “men” and “women” in the constitution were causing concern because they could be seen as excluding transsexual and transgendered people.

Difficulties arose after the organisation Christians in Sport, whose supporters include Jonathan Edwards, the Olympic gold medallist, attempted to book a room in the name of the Christian Union. After checking the union’s constitution, the Guild of Students objected to a number of clauses.

Andy Weatherley, Christian Union staff worker in Birmingham, said: “The guild insists the Christian Union constitution must be amended to include mandatory clauses, insisting on more control by the guild and open membership to those who would not call themselves Christians.”

At a recent guild meeting Matthew Crouch, of the Christian Union, appealed against derecognition. He said: “All guild members can attend our meeting but only members can vote,” but Stuart Mathers, a guild vice-president, said that all student groups have to follow guild council policy. Birmingham University Christian Union is affiliated to the University and Colleges’ Christian Fellowship. Pod Bhogal, its communications director, said: “We support the Birmingham Christian Union. We would not dream of telling a Muslim group or a political society how to elect their leaders or who could or could not become a member. The same applies to a Christian Union.”

One big weapon formed against the West has been the PC movement. We are so "correct" that we have our backs against the wall.

This political correct crapola for us in the west is going to kill us.
Literally kill us.

This hits a nerve with me everytime.
We christians are expected to tolerate every religion.
Do they tolerate us!

Oh boy looks like I am really starting to be intolerante.
I sure am discerning everything lately.
The only good I can see if a christian school opens its doors
to other faiths is if they come to the knowledge that there is
only one God-the creator of the universe-one that died for our
sins.

Then I say halleluiah bring them in!

Hi...Corneliss and Rosie biggrin.gif

This Political Correct nonesense is like the children's story The Emperor Wears No Cloths.....this political game....is a ruse.....used by intolerant people. And you're right Rosie...this will be the down all of the Western World.....they have eyes but do not see, they have ears but do not hear. Multiculture is the wolf in sheep's clothing of the New Age teachings......even Hitler used the political correct game to further his empire.....history is repeating itself once again in the 21 Century....keep your eyes peeled for the railroad boxcars....for people....it is coming down the road......do you know what "Rex 84" was about in the US......consentration camps that's what...Google that!!! ph34r.gif

Political Correctness gone doolally tap.

I think I should set up my own 'correctness' with regards to Jesus. Maybe I should sue my countrys government for continually overlooking Jesus in everything they do. I should sue all the schools in the UK for dropping christian prayer and teachings from their curriculum. I should take everyone and everything to court that rejects Christ....wonder how it would turn out? dry.gif

Tzeitel- (I really like your new name, by the way!) Did you know there is an atheist suing a priest. The atheist is claiming that Jesus never existed.... mad.gif sad.gif
When he loses (hopefully!), I say the time will be right for your law suit.... having just set precedent and all around the globe by proving Jesus did exist..... sort of..... tongue.gif laugh.gif tongue.gif laugh.gif

On a different note, I recently heard a pastor say that "politically correctness" is one of the worst things to happen to religion... I think he's got a good point.
We've taken over and passed the true intent behind "politically correct" and are now only calling the "anything goes" hedonistic ideals and morals (or lack of!!) we emulate from ancient Rome "Pollitically correct".

Anyone see the series "Revelation" with Bill Pullman? It was not a very accurate account, but it made one very interesting slant. Even the false prophet laughed in disgust at atheism.
