Do you have a Christian book store close to where you live. They have all sorts of music, for every taste today. If not check them on-line. You can put in key words like: Christian Bookstores and Christian music. Christian Punk Rock, etc. You can also get some on the music stations online! Maybe you'll be able to find some "punk" music there. There are so many types of Christian music available today, but I don't know any of the bands in this area. God Loves you just the way you are. He changes you from the inside outwards. If changing your clothes is what He wants, He'll let you know. Right now, study the Bible and what He has for you there, and get into some Christian music too. It always helps me. I started reading the Gospels of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John. Then Romans and Acts when I first became a Christian. There is so much to learn for you. I am praying that you can find a church to go to and be fed there and have people your own age to grow with in Christ. I love having you come here too. Much good feeding of His word here. God Bless You!

Dear Punk Rocker-wanna be girly but its hard,

Here's a link you might enjoy. It is a church FULL of punk rockers who love the Lord. Don't know where you are located, but if you're in the Dallas/Ft Worth area in Texas, this is an excellent place to be. I personally know some of the sisters and brothers who attend there and I have visited this church on several occasions (though I am not a punk rocker). Pastor Cleetus is truly a God fearing young man. You can listen to some of his sermons at this site and check out the underground church.

Bless you in Jesus,
Tammy

Here's a link to a short video about Deliverance Bible Church - you'll see Pastor Cleetus as well as several of the people who attend.

Did you know one of the Korn got saved?

: I don't think the style of music matters much so much as the content. But here is something to consider. God created YOU. And when you became baptized into the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ, the Holy Spirit came to you and is now present inside of you. Think of how awesome this is. This is not a figure of speech but it is as real as touching your nose. Now think of the most expensive thing in the entire world, the hope diamond, the entire city of New York, it doesn't matter. Now think of how much more valuable is the Holy Spirit, does anything compare. So with the Holy Spirit dwelling inside of you, does anything, ANYTHING compare to the value of YOU. Correct me if I am wrong but the reason you dress the way you do is because it identifies you into a group of people, people you enjoy. It draws attention to you, nothing wrong with wanting to be noticed. We all want to be noticed. No one wants to be an invisible blip in a vast world. This is a very natural need we all have. The problem is that people are not noticing YOU. They are seeing your cloths. The message from this is that your value is being reduces to the value of the thing that is being noticed. You are being judged and noticed and measured by the value of a thing. Your value is so so much more. You can still hang with your friends, even if they dress crazy. Think of how much attention that will get, but they won’t be seeing the things you wear, they will be seeing you. And here is another thought, your friends need the light of Christ too. Maybe you can be that light.

God Bless,

Shame on the person who is making a quick impression based on the appearance of the person.....

Didn't bother John the Baptist....

Actions speak louder than words..... True (per KansasDad) that its what's inside of us that matters (the holy spirit)....we are a child of God ultimately... that is our identity...

because what's in us, it matters not what is on the outside... be it ailments or cloth.... (Yes, a Christian hooker who dressed as such might be a contradiction)... Ultimately, if your friends aren't a good influence... be careful.. Because we are often defined by our friends.... and our friends are easy influences....

Hello sweetness,

All I can think to say is "shame on anyone for judging a person by their appearance...Some of the most "G-dly people I know...don't look the part". No worries "He sees you and loves you just as you are", remember the praise song "come, now is the time to worship, come, now is the time to see your Savior, come, "just as you are" to worship...and so on...

Just give yourself over to HIM and see where He leads you...I am sure "if He thinks there is something wrong with your look, HE will tell you. Hey, I am a real old fashion Hippy...haven't changed "style" since the late sixties....and HE still loves me! Even with my kinda of manish look, just jeans and tee's here...I always have been a big tomboy! My friends joke with me, they say "just my walk let's them know it's me coming, even in the dark! laugh.gif So, you don't gotz to be a girly girl to be HIS. And, like many have said here...There is probably a "whole section" devoted to "Punk Christians as far as music goes"! So, enjoy! And mostly "stay in HIM firmly" and show His love and grace to all that you come across, they will see HIS light in you! Amen! YSIC hannah fievel biggrin.gif To be me! And happy to meet you! wub.gif

You are most welcome. Personnally~ I don't care how you look as long as you LOOK FOR HIM in everything you do or say! He loves You as You are. He saved you as you are, so from there on out, He will mold you and make you into what He plans for you! And beleive me, He has plans for YOU! God Loves you so much, you will come to depend entirely on HIM! Your friends will see the changes in you, because of HIM. I hope that He uses you to reach them! May God Bless you in all your journey in HIS GRACE AND LOVE. Keep your eyes on Jesus and never take them off of HIM! biggrin.gif wub.gif

Okay... I must say something.

Korn, a band I am very familiar with, is bad news hon. Bad news.

I suggest you purchase a video called, "They Sold Their Souls for Rock and Roll." http://www.goodfight.org/

After watching the video, you will CLEARLY see that Satan has an agenda that is being proliferated through secular music. There is a particularly stunning yet sorrowful scene where the director interviews some fans coming out of a Marlyn Mason concert. The kids were dressed like him, knew all his songs, their faces were painted white. When the director asked them if they thought they were influenced by Mason's music, the kids said NO. What???

Music is very powerful. It is MEANT to put us into the presence of God. There is nothing like a powerful song to get us praising God- with tears streaming down our eyes. God MADE music powerful. It is TRANSFORMING.

If you are not listening to the right stuff, it can have a negative effect. I'm sorry if this is a hard pill to swallow, but it is simply true. Korn is, to be completely true and honest, a demonic band. Listening to that sort of stuff can open you up to all sorts of attacks, oppression, etc. Just as listening to holy praise and worship music brings you into God's presence, that junk. brings you into "other" realms. What purpose is it serving- and who is its master? Put even more directly, if Jesus were in your room, would you want Him to see you singing along to some of the lyrics that Korn and other "gothic" bands like Tool and Ramstein promote (sorry, I don't know the spelling)???

I don't mean to be unloving and uncaring. I truly care about you and so does God. He loves you and wants the BEST things for you.

If you have doubts about what I just said, please purchase the video. A lot of teenagers are viewing it and being made aware of just how vendictive and CALCULATED this war the enemy is waging through music is.

God's love for you today.

Just to clarify what Miki said....

Korn is a pretty good band from a music stand point (their lyrics of some of their songs are not...ahem... very inspirational) .... but keep in mind: Korn isn't a christian per se...

Their founding member (and ex guitarist) Brian "Head" Welch left the band for spiritual pursuit... You can check out his story here.....

Sam,

Punk is perfectly aligned with Christianity. In fact, one could say, without stretching too much, that Jesus was the world's first punk rock guy. He believed in equality across the board, never took race into account, rebelled against the accepted belief system simply because they were wrong, and would have rather been nailed to a big chunk of wood after being nearly tortured to death rather than recant and change His view just to save His own neck. Jesus Christ offered up His life for the lives and slavation of mankind, and never once sacrificed His integrity or values to please anyone.

"So what, I'm your enemy because I tell you the truth?"

Yeah, you can be punkrock and Christian all day.

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and my head
Hang out with the living dead
Snort white --- up my nose
Pass out at the shows
I don't even think about speed
That's something I just don't need

I've got the straight edge

I'm a person just like you
But I've got better things to do
Than sit around and smoke dope
'Cause I know I can cope
Laugh at the thought of eating ludes
Laugh at the thought of sniffing glue
Always gonna keep in touch
Never want to use a crutch

I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge
I've got the straight edge

Also, remember what Jesus said:

"It ain't whatcha put in your body that makes you dirty...it's what you say, and what you issue forth from your body that corrupts you, and reveals what's REALLY in your heart."

I listen to Black Dahlia Murder, TTEOTD, and a cache of other speed metal and metalcore. I grew up listening to Danzig, Napalm Death, and Pantera (RIP Darrel), and a whole bunch of music that makes your average Christian ruuuuun away, but it, the music I listened to, never swayed me. I got off track all by myself, because I would have rathered to be cool and accepted by my friends than hit the Book and foolow God. Music means nothing, clothing means nothing, race, nationality, and income means NOTHING. Faith is everything, and as long as you look at those things as outside stimulii and not internal motivators, then you're just fine and dandy.

everwatchful...

I find your name ironic with your advice. Jesus asked us to guard our gates. Listening to satanic music is certainly not guarding your gates. Listening to most secular music today is not really guarding ones gates. It very lustful, antiauthoriy, and consumerism minded. Not to mention commercial. Everything sounds the same.

Like I said in an earlier post...

God created music. Most scholars contend that Satan was originally the worship leader of heaven (maybe why that's why he likes to use this particular medium to corrupt... don't know). God created music so that we will WORSHIP Him while singing, playing, and dancing. When I sing to the Lord, I pretend the Jesus is high above me on the throne, and I am singing directly to Him. That's what music is intended for. That's what everything on earth is intended for really- to glorify Him. If we are working for ourselves and not for him, then our work is an idol. If wE

I'm afraid I must interject. You are wrong when you say that music means nothing. If music meant nothing, then why is it one of the most important parts of worship?

Some lyrics to illustrate my point:

Pantera's cover song on their 1985 album:
I Am The Night

I am the lightning
and the storm
all hell broke loose
on the night I was born
a child of fire
and burning flames
look to the east
and you'll see hence I came

Might throw you into the darkness
or save you by the light
of the moon and stars
ever shining
celestial bodies burning bright
burning bright

I, I AM THE NIGHT
I, I AM THE NIGHT

I am the terror
the beast at large
heed my warning
sound the alarm
an endless shadow
for daylight you pray
lock your doors
but you cannot get away

Tender angels of mercy
how they run from my sight
eclipsed into darkness
searching only for the light
for the light
for the light

I, I AM THE NIGHT
I, I AM THE NIGHT
!!THGIN TA SEVIL LATEM

Some Korn lyrics from a 1994 album:
"Divine"

I hide only to defy you
Take away the only love inside you
I see the face through everyone
Inside I've just begun!
You think I'm out to scare you
I'm only out to prepare you for when you stop and turn around
Your body's going down!

You're gonna waste your time,
Your life will soon be mine,
You're definitely one of a kind, and
You're suffering 'cause of me, it's divine

Tell me why you never liked me
Tell me why it is you fight me (Tell me why, so you'll fight me)
Pull down and wait for the perfect time to take what is rightfully
mine
You think they're dumb to defy me
You said you don't want to defy me
-You wait, to dumb run anyone (. . .you don't want anyone)
Oh well. . .

You know what, **ck you!
I'm fed up with you!
I'm not as good as you?!
**ck no! I'm better than you!

Did you really think you'd beat me at my own game?!
You try to see what you got
Me ripping at your brain!

Jesus instructed us to guard our gates (eyes, ears, the senses). Listening to music like you just described, like above, is not guarding your gates. I seriously just randomly selected only 2 of their songs, and presto, this is what I got.

You are right when you say that income, class, race, etc. doesn't matter in the eyes of God. You are WRONG when you say how we dress and what we listen to doesn't matter. It does.

Most secular music right now isn't so blatenly horrible as the songs I just described. But is is lustful, full of consumerism, and to be frank, it's lost its origniality. Worship God through songs of praise. There is NOTHING... NO THING that is better than closing your eyes, picturing Jesus, and telling Him how much you love Him in song.

PS: It occurs to me that putting lyrics like these on a Christian forum is... well, walking a thin line. But, I believe that it can open the eyes of some naive parents as well as shed a new light on these words when they are "outside" of the accompaning music. I hope that the moderators will agree with my judgement.

Sam-I-El...First let me say how awesome it is to see your desire to be pleasing to God. There are some great bands out there that appeal the style of music you enjoy. The X 2005 and X 2006 albums are CD's that offer a sampling of many different bands with a rock sound. Also try the Tooth & Nail label/web site for bands and music that may be something you'll like. As for your clothes...as long as you are dressed modestly and have no labels demeaning Christ, I don't think it matters in the least if you have on all black or a paper sack. You have been given an opportunity to minister and reach people that some of the rest of us could not. If it is truly God dealing with you about your clothes, He will guide you through prayer as to what changes to make. But I will say, I do agree completely with the part of the other posts that say how important music/lyrics can be. Satan was the worship leader in Heaen before he fell, so he truly understands the power of music and meditating on the lyrics, I woud say even more than we do. So, if he can get a song stuck in your head that contradicts God's Word and prevents worshiping Him, then Satan has been successful in stealing God's praise. Let us know what you find in the way of new music!! Much luck in your search and am believing God will guide your every step! smile.gif

biggrin.gif Don't worry about the 'fighting'...it is more their concerns that is being aired here. The important thing is You asked for some good Christain music, in the form that you prefer to listen to.

God will answer you and I am glad you have come to know Jesus. That is the most important thing.

I don't think any of these here are fighting over your posts. It is in the principles of our Faith in God, that we question when something does not seem as it should be. That is called a Discerning Spirit. I call it the Holy Spirit being greived. Anyway, I hope that you can find what God has instore for you, my dear.

It's only a fight when it's between two people. I could care less, personally, what people's 'interpretation' of scripture is. Be careful for people who decide what things mean, as if they are wise neough to really make a call like that. I'm unaffected, and so is my record collection.

Hey, have either of you know-it-alls listened to any of those bands? Have any idea how hard it is to discern what the lyrics are in some of them? Didn't think so. Lyrics are maybe a quarter of the music, and if that quarter, which is usually garbled yelling, or incomprehensive screaming is enough to have me labeled a satanist or something, then I suggest you get out the lumber waggon for the stuff you're toting around in your eye before you go calling names and pointing at the speck in mine, self-interpreters.

"Have few teachers".

Sam, listen to the Book, not what people who decipher it for the sake of argument have to tell you. Beware those who use God's love letter to us as a weapon.

chill everwatchful....
let's groove to some Galatic or Allman Brothers... (I remember what I was doing when I heard about Dimebag)..

I read an article/interview once (I'll double check my source) discussing the tatics of Christians against some artists as Marilyn Manson is some what limited...

Which pulls more people into the kingdom of heaven? Which shines the light of Christ more?

1) Street Preaching and album burning at concerts.....

2) Reaching out and loving those that dig the music (I'm not questioning the content of the music)

I've listen to alot of music... God teaches me more using things that are "secular" than things that are "religious" regardless of the media used (video, audio, etc.) I admit that I have listened to and own CDs of some of the bands mentioned (particularly KORN, Tool, Danzig.... and to be quite honest I like a few songs by Manson)

What I have seen in these lyrics (besides marketing tatics...just read up on Eminem... he is marketing genius...the more parents/demonstration groups complain the more his records sale) is angst and frustration, questions and doubt. I'm not blaming the church, but many of these artists were burnt by the church. As youth, society pushed them aside because of their appearance and musical tastes... Perhaps no father, no coach, no preacher to hug them (or God forbid did too much hugging, catch my drift)... The one thing that suprises me about these goth and skater punks is the love, acceptance, and committment to one another that others did not give them.... We as Christians can learn alot from these people.

It don't matter how we dress like. My family come from India. One Sunday, one of my little cousins told some of my cousins that they should dress smart to Church. I disagreed & wore a shirt and jeans. I must add that clothes may have to be appropriate - 3 people have told me to zip my jacket or take off my beanie - fcuk ones. Then there's the case of my Ma who tells me to shave rather than go out anywhere with stuble coz I should look presentable. Man, shaving as a kid seemed a fun idea but it's such a chore now a days! What I will say is this. Mahatama Gandhi visited a Church in England and the congregation treated him like he was a lepper. I don't know if it was coz of what he was wearing (the reason Winston Churchill once refused to meet him) or because of his skin colour. He came out saying, "You talk about being followers of Christ but you don't follow Him with your actions." (I've forgotten the exact words but that's roughly what he said). It don't matter what we look like. I obey my Ma and shave but it don't matter what a person looks like or is dressed like. We're at Church to worship God. It's what is inside that counts. That's my opinion!
