Hello all
I have recieved a few questions from a seeker about God and Soul. I would like to get as many ideas on how to answer them.
Here are the Questions
1> God created everything. Some things, however, God did not create: God, existance, truth, love (debatable), etc. because these concepts are part of God's nature, therefore, have existed as long as God has: eternally. But...what about moral goodness?
"Is God good, or is good God?"
Does acts that God do became good because God did them, or does God do only good acts because he is inherantly good?
This is just your opinion. Bible verses (while they help (if you can find some)) aren't neccesary.
------
dennis's response:
everything that god is: flows from his love
god tells us the truth, cause he loves us.
god is humble, cause he loves us
god is merciful, cause he loves us
god doesn't sin(hurt anyone) , cause he loves all persons
god helps the poor, cause he loves us
god does separate the righteous from the un-righteous (at the end-of-the-age), cause he loves us.
god does punish the un-repentant and wicked, cause he loves us
god encompasses all good things (love, truth, mercy, etc)
so, god is a larger "circle" than love. (all love is contained within god.......all love originates from god)
2> Does the Bible say that souls are unique to humans? Do any other beings in existance have souls? I'm only concerned with what the Bible says; if it is completely silent on the issue, then I don't want opinions.
-------
a man on christian radio said:
animals have spirits (but their spirits are not everlasting)
men (mankind) have everlasting spirits.
dogs have emotions (happy, afraid, angry, aggressive, etc)
emotions are part of the "spirit"
3> Where does the Bible say that the Book of Life "closes" to a person at death?
-------
there's a reference to the "book of life" in the Psalms
4> What does the Bible say about the nature of souls? Again, I don't want personal beliefs. I'm interested in what the Bible has to say about it.
-------
5> Finally, where does the Bible say that God has free will, and that he can choose to do evil, but won't?
jesus had a mouth , that could speak words (he could have spoken sinful words, if he had wanted to?????????)
jesus had hands , that could be used to sin against people (assuming that jesus(god) was capable of sinning)
i'm thinking:
god is (theoretically, technically) capable of sinning, but since he is so loving, he would never choose to sin........so, in that sense, he can honestly say: i (god) cannot sin.
dennis manning
Looking forward to your replies to these questions.
