Soujurner,
You are obviously being petty now, and even a little bit childish. " Everybody" doesn't know that the sling was a common military weapon in the ancient world. I would say from just watching TV sermons, and recalling from "Sunday School" that most Christians believe slings were primarily used by shepherds to drive wolves away from their flocks which is why so much is made of this story today. This does not lessen David's bravery, and I never implied it did.
As for "my own misconceptions" on this subject, I have written books and scientific (archaeological) papers on various aspects of the Roman Army and reasonably sure that I know far more about this subject than you do.

D.C.,
You're right. I probably should not have responded to your nit picking. Come now, you're biting at the ankles of traditional Christianity over rediculous subject matter. I see now that you believe that you are superior to the traditional Christians here at this site by engaging in maniple maneuvers against our phalanx maneuvers.
What are the names of your books? Why is it that names, dates and sources are not well engrained in your thoughts and words? Irregardless, your take on a story has little to do with whether or not you have studied Rome or written a book. If in your child's mind, back in the day that you were going to Sunday School, you assumed that the significance of the story of David was his use of a slingshot, then so what. But this site is not kindergarten class or Sunday school. Most people here know scripture like the backs of their hands and many are very well spiritually connected. And some of us know a little history.
