Full Version: The Trying Of Your Faith

Jam 1:2 My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Jam 1:3 Knowing [this], that the trying of your faith worketh patience. Jam 1:4 But let patience have [her] perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing.

1Pe 1:7 That the trial of your faith, being much more precious than of gold that perisheth, though it be tried with fire, might be found unto praise and honour and glory at the appearing of Jesus Christ: 1Pe 1:8 Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see [him] not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory: 1Pe 1:9 Receiving the end of your faith, [even] the salvation of [your] souls.

Joyce Meyer has said something like, "Everybody wants a testimony. But you can't have a testimony without a test. And when we are tested, many of us get the moanies!"

I never thought of faith quite like this before today....what kind of faith would we have if it were never tested? I expect it would be like having a harley in the garage and never going down the big road feeling the throbbing power....

Yet when we are tested, it is like the bottom dropped out...we are standing on a trap door with a noose around our neck and it is all over...or the guillotine blade has been sharpened just for you...

Have you ever occasioned to come to the "wall" of discouragement and to a seemingly uncrossable barrier in the performance of your faith? It is written in Proverbs 13:12, "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life."

Remember, true faith is always on the cutting edge of unbelief! If we subscribe to only the portion of the known immediate will of God for our lives, we will not hasten to perform any further. Hence God is in the faith stretching business and when it seems as if there is no way, then God pushes us over the edge of our comfortable pew and into the ethereal realm of floating upon His grace which passeth understanding! Just when you see the ship sinking, just when the the tax collector is demanding full restitution, just when the strongman armed seems to have secured another of your treasures for his own trove, just when the doctor says there is no cure, just when hopes are dashed and fleeting and all resolve is gone, along comes God Who we behold in the face of Jesus Christ our redeemer acting out His High Priestly office over our professions and interceding with the Father on our behalf! And the floodgates do open and the raised hackles of the enemy which are brandishing loathsome fear of failure fall away as trees before a storm and all the red tape and all the admonishments that you are not going to be able to endure and to press in and to press on and to escape the obvious are vanquished away and doors do open and windows do close, and fresh air is breathed and hope is no longer deferred! Suddenly God moves to provide yet again for his children and to prove Himself faithful in our behalf! Never give up! It is the only way you will ever fail!

Hebrews 10:35 Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward. 36 For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.

Proverbs 13:12, "Hope deferred maketh the heart sick: but when the desire cometh, it is a tree of life."

I understand portion 'a' of this scripture (all to well) but 'b' escapes me...
I can't seem to put it context...Hard to see it when you've given up...

Not that l've given up...just given up to the Lord....But there are days when the light at the end of the tunnel is dim and seems too far away to reach...

Not that l want to bum everybody out.... blush.gif

I wonder if "when the desire cometh" means that you have the will to get out of bed again? Depression lifts like the fog on wind of the spirit? Maybe?

Hebrews 11, the Heroes of Faith chapter

Many Heroes of faith were Gloriously Rescued, Resurrected, and prospered. Many were given Miraculous Victories in battle.

Many were martyred, sawn asunder, suffered poverty and had poor self-esteem (joking).

Many were rejected by the "in-crowd". Many were despised by the most popular cliques.

Jezebel vowed to murder the man of God, immediately after the man's greatest Miracle and Victory.

How would we know that "I'm a Hero of Faith", even though my program crashed and burned."???

I got "sawn asunder", but I'm counted by God as a Hero!???

The Holy Spirit is our Teacher, but there's as many beliefs, denominations, interpretations, opinions, differences of doctrines, etc among Christians ,,, as there are numbers of Christians!

Either,
the teacher is a bad Teacher (but the teacher is God!),
or
we're very bad at learning from the Teacher,
or
the Teacher is waiting for us to study our Bibles better,
or,
the Teacher thinks that we've already got everything that we need to know,
or,
the Teacher is waiting for us to put our limited knowledge into actual practice,
or,
whatever

I would have expected "when the desire cometh" to be the answered prayer. Suddenly all is well. Life regains hope and expectation. smile.gif
