Full Version: Christian Parents' Responsibility
Christian-Forum.net > General discussion > What do you say?

As christian parents, we have responsibility to train our kids the they should go. how do we do that? We can study or talk about the Bible and His teaching as a daily devotion.

When we do this diligently and faithfully everyday, the chances are that your children will not depart from the Lord. It is the best and easiest fruit we can produce for the Lord. And they will not get into difficult problems and will find godly spouce for marrige. We should take vey seriously about our children's walk with the Lord. If we are responsible Christians we sould not rely on youth groups or Sunday Schools.

gingercat,

I agree, I have a unique perspective on this because i am 17! And I have watched my parents do it the wrong way. I think that feeding them the Bible is not necessarily the right thing to do because rarely do kids actually undterstand and appreciate the stories in the bible. And I think if the Goal of parents is to raise children of strong faith then i think that we should not steer them away from difficult situations. I think it might be fair to say that most people truly belive in god after a difficult situation. If you think of the majority of "normal christians" they turn to God ... only in time of need, never thanking him. I read a post by someone about being a normal christian here and it was awesome. I know when i have kids I don't want them to be normal christians.

So i think that if Parents were to display their faith and teach their children how to be faithful to the Lord then i think that might be more beneficial than just throwing the Bible at their feet. Parents often make going to Church a chore, making it seem unpleasant for children. I think that don't go if you don't want to , Go because you want to praise the Lord that has given you so much for a hour.

Parents also make the mistake of making God seem like an Angry God! For Example " Billy, do you think God is very happy with you, that you hit your brother" or my personal favorite ( a true story i heard about a christian school teacher) " How do you feel that you know that Jesus is crying in Heaven knowing that you cheated on that test"

So if I had a list of important things that Parents can do it would be like this

1.) Show your kids faith through your life
2) Teach them to trust in the Lord
3.) Say Grace at every meal that your present at
4.) Teach them how to Pray
5.) Keep God in Conversations at the dinner table
6.) Make Church not a chore but a privledge(you know what I mean)
7.) Make it tradition to Volunteer... you learn many things from this.

Thats all i can think of. My parents just drove me to church and drove me home and rarely i mean rarely said anything about God. But i guess i am special or somehting .. no God gave me other teachers thank goodness!

Lil Shep... this is AWESOME advice!!! God has trained you up and you are better for it! I also had parents that caused me great distress growing up, dragged me to church but never said a word in the car, always made comparisons, etc. but never showed any Godly character. You have the best advice here, and coming from one that has experience it means a lot! I am so glad you are here on this board, you are a blessing to all of us. I am thankful today for YOU! :-) I truly believe God allows people to go through some horrible experiences so that they can bless others. I don't want my kids to be 'normal' Christians either, Shep. You truly have opened my eyes! I have two boys, 7 and 11, and we don't force the Bible on them, and you know what?? THEY ask questions about God all the time, and usually out of the blue! It's so rewarding to see this after a childhood of having church shoved down my throat. It's amazing how God works.

THANK YOU!!!

Thank you Little,

Your suggestions are very valuable ones. My kids and I always talk about God and the Bible everyday. We don't even attend church. We had so many bad experiences with churches. Most churches don't seem to care about living a sincere Christian life. I would not trust a church to educate my kids to grow spiritually.

Parents should be the main educators of their own kids for the Lord.

Passionate and obedient parents are the best gift to their children.

My wife has been a Christian since her eary childhood. She raised two boys without much help. ( I was not a part of the equation) She read bible stories to them and prayed with and for them. She took them to church. They are young adults now, and one has been to bible college and has a great heart for God. The other is married to a girl from a strong Christian family and they are doing very well....

My wife has seen these words proven out...

Pro 22:6 Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it.

There were sleepless nights to be sure, and a diversity of thought scarred the peace in those rebellious teen years, but it has all come together. There is power in the word and in prayer and in the blood of Jesus...

Psa 37:23 The steps of a [good] man are ordered by the LORD: and he delighteth in his way. Psa 37:24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the LORD upholdeth [him with] his hand. Psa 37:25 I have been young, and [now] am old; yet have I not seen the righteous forsaken, nor his seed begging bread. Psa 37:26 [He is] ever merciful, and lendeth; and his seed [is] blessed. Psa 37:27 Depart from evil, and do good; and dwell for evermore. Psa 37:28 For the LORD loveth judgment, and forsaketh not his saints; they are preserved for ever: but the seed of the wicked shall be cut off.
