BOOK [EXCERPT]:
Mayflower: A Story of Courage, Community and War

http://www.iht.com/articles/2006/05/07/features/bookmon.php

By the time second-generation Pilgrims began to prosper, they regarded the Indians as a nuisance and were ready to fight the full-scale confrontation known as King Philip's War. King Philip was a son of Massasoit, who had enjoyed a remarkable rapport with the Mayflower settlers.

"By immediately assuming the conflict was a racial rather than a political struggle, the English were, in effect, creating a self-fulfilling prophecy," Philbrick writes, pointedly mindful of both the 17th and 21st centuries.

http://www.smh.com.au/ffximage/2006/08/21/...eb__300x462.jpg

"Mayflower" finds smaller but equally striking parallels between past and present. It explains that the Pilgrims disagreed about how much of their society's resources should be used for security; that Indians were forced to mortgage (and subsequently lose) their land to pay off debts, that the deforestation rate to sustain a Pilgrim village was astronomical; and that the firstborn son of William Bradford, another governor of Plymouth, wound up moving as far away from his father as he could get.

This book's principal sources are Bradford's "Of Plymouth Plantation," and the military memoirs of Benjamin Church, who played an important part in King Philip's War and became, by Philbrick's lights, an American prototype.Boldly self-promoting, Church was an unapologetic self-promoter. But Philbrick admires his credo: "Instead of loathing the enemy, try to learn as much as possible from him; instead of killing him, try to bring him around to your way of thinking. First and foremost, treat him like a human being."

Background

In the summer of 1930, as part of his research into the Native American perspective on the Ghost Dance movement, Neihardt contacted an Oglala holy man named Black Elk, who had been present as a young man at the 1876 Battle of the Little Big Horn and the 1890 Wounded Knee Massacre.

LAND DISPUTES

Land transfer was not a simple matter. The colonial laws guarded the rights of the natives. Only through qualified agents could purchases be made. Interpreters must be present, as well as several witnesses for both parties. The Indian owner or his family must be present for the formal signing, for unlike communal tribal lands of the western Indians, much of the land was owned by individual tribesmen. Finally, the sachem must also add his mark if he were in agreement. If all this puzzled the land-rich warrior, he may have been aware of his rights under English law. And when all was said and done, he generally retained his right to hunt and fish on the property. To the twentieth century mind, trade goods seems a small price to pay for a slice of real estate. But values must be interpreted as to time and place, and the Algonquin was certain he had the best of the bargain. In 1675, a full-scale war erupted between the increasing number of colonists and the Indians. Now known as King Phillip's War, after the name of the Massasoit's son, who was then chief, the clash lasted eleven years and caused great destruction on both sides.

The Wampanoag were defeated, and peaceful relations between the two groups were forever shattered.

The peaceful relations between the Pilgrims and Indians had lasted 54 years, during the lifetimes of the Massasoit and the original members of Plymouth Colony.

speaking of the pipe ceremony and prayer...

Swallow continued, "My English is not good. I have to be careful because sometimes I use the wrong words and am misunderstood. But everyone needs to understand this clearly: We all need to pray, whether you have a c'anunpa or not, whether you are American Indian or not. We need to pray because it will only be by prayer that the world will be saved. It will only be by prayer that the hearts of those who are destroying the world can be changed."-David Swallow

One day we will all be together with Jesus.

Oh what a wonderful day it will be.

For the whole world groans for the manifestation of the Sons of God.

JESUS IS ALIVE.

simplicity holds a special place in my heart. To love the LORD thy God, with all your heart, with all you spirit, and with all your mind, and thy neighbor as thyself.

I love the Indians deeply, they are special very special to me. But I also realize there where vicious ones too, not as like how the movies have always portrayed them as being some kind of Gods of their own....yes the Pilgrims have been glorified by the public, and so also the Indians...both fall short of the Glory of GOD, as we all do.

there has always been evil, but always there has been followers of Christ, of which the Indians knew and followed, for the whole creation is a testimony of GOD and those whom help one another in the face of evil...laying down their lives for one another....no greater love than this.

And the Indians knew God , in their own special way.

there is the Rebellous in every tribe and every man and woman.

We can choose LIFE or choose Death, but sometimes Death is chosen upon us...and those that have shed innocent blood and not repented will face the righteous GOD whom will show his Justice for all..

So when they gave the Indians food, it was in some of their hearts to covet knowing how to flatter to take away their hard earned land and livelyhood.

but NOT all, as this article suggests in another LABELING of all and not to those whom are SET APART FOR CHRIST JESUS OUR LORD....and yes that Includes the Indians whom I would also recognize as bringing the Europeans to Christ with the gifts of the Holy Spirit upon them.

. God knows the heart of every man and women. Only God knows his own.

God has knowledge and foresight,(THE ALPHA AND OMEGA) of everyone that has shed innocent blood, from the very beginning with Cain in the Garden.

And the history of man and woman's writings Do never TELL THE WHOLE STORY. (We see IN PART)
They have a tendency to only write of the REJECTION and not the ACCEPTANCE of the peoples...of those that reached out in the face of Death.

Yes SIN sells, and causes more hatred and division...yes the truth needed to be told, so that people would turn from their wicked ways and turn to Jesus...but you never hear of those that turned to Christ and helped the Indians or the Indians helping the Europeans...... only the bad.

would you not agree?????????, that in the midst of the evil, there where many that did what they could even though their own families tried to persuade them that they need to follow their evil ways?

yes on both sides, I've always had such a deep love for the Indians, it's in my blood. But through Christ's blood we become a new creation. one that learns how to forgive and not look back but look forward for our reward is not of this world, but in the Coming Kingdom of God.

I like the message of praying, yes much needed to heal all wounds.

Perhaps you could tell us a story of how Indian and European, came together during this evil time?

In the new heaven & earth, no more trail of tears, no more sorrow !

The coming together, was after the stealing of the Native Lands, by our government. I wish
I could take this map, and make up a true story. I cannot !

This is why, the test we all face to forgive and pray for our enemies is required.

And who better, that sets this example than the Native American's. Many of the tribes
are now declared the DNA of the Amerindians From Israel, which I have studied since
the message given to me 1995, about the Pipestone, MN area !

However, I was so caught up in the love you represented in your writings, it made
my heart yearn for more !

Love to you . . . As a holisticwarrior, I am required to not SHRINK back ( Hebrews 10 )
and declare the consumer advocate work assigned to my mission, of TRUTH.

Let us look at the map, it shows the truth.

EXCERPT

The above altar is located on Palatine Hill, Rome, where once stood the palaces of the Caesars. It dates from about 100 B.C. and has the inscription, ´To the unknown God.´
The apostle Paul saw just such an altar while waiting in Athens for Timothy and Silas to join him. He used the Athenians religious zeal to worship gods they don't even know the name of as a springboard for telling them about the TRUE God:

" Now while Paul waited for them (Timothy and Silas) at Athens, his spirit was stirred in him, when he saw the city wholly given to idolatry (e.g. statues, images or any object used as aid to worship false gods or the true God). Therefore disputed he in the synagogue with the Jews, and with the devout persons, and in the market daily with them that met with him.
" Then certain philosophers of the Epicureans (followers of Epicurus. They taught that the highest aim of man was to seek a pleasant and smooth life.) and of the Stoicks (they taught that man's happiness consisted in bringing himself into harmony with the course of the universe.), encountered him. And some said, What will this babbler say? other some, He seemeth to be a setter forth of strange gods: because he preached unto them Jesus, and the resurrection.

" Then Paul stood in the midst of Mars' hill (the Areopagus or rocky hill in Athens where the Athenian supreme tribunal and court of morals was held), and said, [Ye] men of Athens, I perceive that in all things ye are too superstitious. For as I passed by, and beheld your devotions, I found an altar with this inscription, TO THE UNKNOWN GOD. Whom therefore ye ignorantly worship, him declare I unto you." (Acts 17:16-18, 22-23)
