Abraham Isaac Jacob and Joseph

I saw something last night l've never recognized before when l watched the story of our founding Fathers on the dreaded TBN.

Abraham blessed both Issac and Ishmael.. It was Sarah that had the big issue of little faith. She didn't believe what God told Abraham and She's the one that tempted and prompted Abraham to join with Hagar...Then it came back to bite her. She took it out on Hagar and Abraham sent her away. This was mostly Sarah's fault but l'm sure Hagar dug it in too. And certainly Abraham didn't have to give in to Sarah..Reminds me of Eve's promptings.

We also see the favoritism here of Issac..They taught it to him. It's the opposite to what God does...God is no respecter of persons.

Fast forward to Jacob and Esau...

Esau sold his birthright for a bowl of stew..But this is the unbelievable part l never saw before. The sin of favorites that Issac learned from the carnal side of his family that's been unrepented of is passed down and still operating in him as he chooses Esau as his favorite and simply conspires to sell the birthright blessing for a bowl of stew too. Like father like son. He should have done what Abraham did and blessed both..My God! Why didn't he get it?? And it turned right around to bite them both..The blessing which should have been for both was taken away from Esau through his father grievous sin.

God is merciful to Jacob and reveals himself and confirms the blessing in the wrestling match. But the sin of favoritism is alive and well and is once again demonstrated through Jacob on to Joseph..Look what happens to Jacob because of what he did to Joseph. His son is taken away. He stirred up jealousy and got his reward.. But as you know once again God uses it.

We don't really understand all that happened in those years (well at least l don't) that they over stayed the drought in Egypt. They got comfortable and didn't remember to follow the original road map..

So i turn the dreaded TBN on again and there it is ... just beginning.. the story of Jacob and Esau again...but in the mean time l was thinking about it.

Rebbecca didn't believe God at the last minute either because she resorted to her own tactics to get Jacob the blessing. Just like Sarah did.
She had to..(they had to) fix it for God...so to speak..

Abraham had faith..He blessed all of his people. God took the blessing away ahead of time because he knew what Esau and Issac would do.
And then Rebbecca never say him again..

Jacob never felt right about what happened. He shouldn't have listened to Rebbecca...but it was his mother. He was caught between a rock and a hard place.
We know this is true because the reality dawned on him when he woke up with Leah by his side. In the dark of the night the" switch" was on.

What is is with human favoritism? Something else l thought about. It wasn't Issac's blessing anyway but God's blessing through him.

God blesses obedience and faith. Issac had to have known what God told Rebbecca...He did what ever he wanted..Why do we always lose faith?
No one can tell me Issac didn't know Esau's nature...Maybe this is why we don't hear much about Issac's life...

Do you play favorites with your children? I love both my boys the same. One works with his hands and one with his mind. Each has the their good and bad qualities.

My parents favored my oldest sister. She got a brand new bike...all shiny and blue. My other sister and l got a second hand bike that was brown heavy and beat up and we had to share it. It does affect you. We laugh out loud at it but we remember these things. Our parents affect us. I always felt less as a child..

My oldest sister had her own room and my second sister and l had to share. My oldest sister never shared her stuff with us because she thought we would wreck it. Her things were new and we mostly got hand me downs from her. Not that we didn't get new things too. We did but she always seemed to have more..We actually had hitting fights over favoritism when my parents weren't home. I'm not very close to her today. I'd like to be but ways get set and our lives are separate. It's sad...Esau and Jacob lived apart to. I guess that's just how it is sometimes.
