In the Hebrew of the OT there are a number of words that are translated as perfect. There is no consistency, unfortunately, in the translations. The words most used are Shalem and Tamim. The latter word means a childlike faithfulness/righteousness. Loving our neighbour as ourselves is captured in the idea of Tamim.
There is also Shalem, which represents an intimacy with God....a visitation...an understanding of holy things. This is representative of loving God with all we are and have.
There are many hidden references that amount to warnings for those who are out of balance, or play one type of "perfection" against the other. There are many traps on the road to holiness. However, true humility and a trust in the Lord will see us through.
