I think you are right IamLives...it seemed to me that no matter what I did, those people were not going to lestin
Dear one,
I would be careful to pray about this because it's possible this could also be a warning (because of the reference to Cain and Abel......with you being like Abel!). My dh's Mother was warned similarly concerning a lady who knocked on her door one afternoon (claiming she wanted to know more about God). This lady had every intention of stabbing his Mom but God warned her by a vision. She saw (by vision) the knife in the lady's purse and she knew she was intending on killing her. So she silently prayed and rebuked the spirit of murder... and when she did this a confusion came upon the lady and she went back outside asking "why am I here?"...then it dawned upon the lady and she remembered and said "I was going to stab you and kill you!". She left and never came back, thank God!
As christians we have this big heart's desire to minister to as many people as possible, especially knowing that the time is short but I have learned over the years that some people are completely closed off AND because of this, they ARE the enemies of God. (Yes, we all were enemies before our salvation...but the type of enemies I'm talking about would love nothing more than to seriously harm christians). I'm concerned for those I read about recently going into the gay communities and were mob attacked...they could have been murdered or seriously harmed. They were wanting to do a good work but good works also require discernment. If it were me, I would not be street witnessing in any area like they were in (especially after proposition 8 was passed)...unless of course God had specifically warned me ahead of time like He did with Paul (and the Jews who would seek his death). We need to be wise in this day and age.
God bless you FS!
KimHi Kim,
I kind of agree with what you are saying.
this is the reason that its just "kind of agree":
I believe that we are to speak the Gospel to anyone and everyone that we can.
But this certainly is conditional. If the Holy Spirit stops you from speaking to whoever that person is, then that is the one condition.
There have been times when I wanted to go and speak the Gospel to someone, but circumstance or the Holy Spirit leading me away from the area or person interviened.
A couple of years ago, I was roller blading through a very bad neighborhood, passing out Gospel tracts and speaking to those that I could about the Lord.
I noticed a car sitting with a couple of muslim men in it and was drawn to speak to them about Christ. They quickly informed me that they were muslim, as I spoke with them, I said that muslims also need to hear the Gospel of Jesus CHrist. They did not want to listen to what I had to say though, but I believe that the Lord sent me there so that someday those words that I spoke would possibly be a witness against them for rejecting the Gospel of Christ, I pray that maybe a seed was planted though.
So, I think that we are saying the same thing, but I do believe that we should speak the Gospel to everyone, until the Holy Spirit says otherwise.
God bless you
In Christ alone,
Chris
Hi Chris,
You brought up a good point. Street witnessing is a noble ministry of which my husband and I have participated in for years. I do hope that I'm able to convey this tactfully and/or respectfully (because that is my heart)...but feel it must be said...common sense is lacking in a lot of ministries today. Not just discernment, not just God personally speaking, but common sense too. This is why I mentioned the (gay community) scenario because I consider these christians to have very good intentions but I also believe their common sense was lacking. Clearly after prop 8 was passed, many GBLT's were outraged and were capable of harmful acts against churches and church-goers. And even though these christians had been going to this certain gay area for months before prop 8; after it passed they should have paused before going in there. Not to mention the fact that the crowd itself was giving them a warning hours in advance....they should not have stayed there but they did. Even the police were concerned for their safety BEFORE they were commanded to leave.
Not only this, (I don't know about you) but I've noticed over the years that there are christians who have it impressed upon them that they should PURSUE the goal of martyrdom. I disagree with that mentality. Martyrdom should never be ideolized or pursued...and even though Paul knew ahead of time that this would be the outcome, martyrdom was not his goal.
I'm not talking about shrinking back in fear or hiding our light....I'm talking about wisely discerning which course we should take; taking into consideration that the longer we are here in the earth, the longer we can affectively be about our Father's business......unless of course a situation similar to Paul's presents itself. These are not cut and dry answers but so many people fail to acknowledge the fact that the times we are living in are much more evil than the days of the former apostles. Even though we do not witness the degree of physical persecution in the US as in former times, there are many more enemies of God who being used by Satan cause much harm to christians through many (unique) avenues. I'm talking about tactics, about knowing your enemy....and knowing your limitations. There are many things if I could go back and have the knowledge I have now, I would have done things differently, LOL.
I am not dismissing the spreading of the gospel, please don't take me wrong. If we are really following God's Spirit though, we will submit to Him in all things and recognize that there is a time and a place for all things. Casting our pearls before swine comes to my mind along with another interesting scripture which has stood out to me over the years...(NKJV) Amos 5:7 You who turn justice to wormwood, And lay righteousness to rest in the earth!" 8 He made the Pleiades and Orion; He turns the shadow of death into morning And makes the day dark as night; He calls for the waters of the sea And pours them out on the face of the earth; The LORD [is] His name. 9 He rains ruin upon the strong, So that fury comes upon the fortress. 10 They hate the one who rebukes in the gate, And they abhor the one who speaks uprightly. 11 Therefore, because you tread down the poor And take grain taxes from him, Though you have built houses of hewn stone, Yet you shall not dwell in them; You have planted pleasant vineyards, But you shall not drink wine from them. 12 For I know your manifold transgressions And your mighty sins: Afflicting the just [and] taking bribes; Diverting the poor [from justice] at the gate. 13 Therefore the prudent keep silent at that time, For it [is] an evil time. This scripture has always spoken loud and clear to me that those who are prudent will also know when to speak and when to be silent.
God bless you,
KimThanks for some really great scripture Kim.
Im a very firm believer in the Matthew 6:33 principle, in that when we seek the kingdom of God and His righteousness, ALL things will be added to us.
Also, this scripture verse:
Proverbs 3:5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart,
And lean not on your own understanding;
6 In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.
If you are walking in the Spirit, really trusting in Christ in everything, then you will not be wrong in what you do.
This morning while getting ready for the day, the Lord began to speak to me about how it is that Im clothed in the righteousness of Christ, and He began to reveal to me how it is that some are clothed in His righteousness and how some are not and why..
There are so many that think that they are clothed in the righteousness of Christ, but are only deceiving themselves.
Revelation 3:18
I counsel you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire, that you may be rich;
and white garments, that you may be clothed, that the shame of your nakedness may not be revealed; and anoint your eyes with eye salve, that you may see.
The shame of nakedness is to be believing that you are clothed in Christ's righteousness, but are really naked and do not know it.
Many are naked because they are not trusting in the Lord with all of their heart, and they are not acknowledging Him in all of their ways.
I still find it amazing that that so many are holding on to the fact that they said a "prayer of faith" and think that because they recited some words at some point in their life, they are now written in the Book of Life!
But, my point is simply that when we are walking in the Spirit, and not after the flesh, when we truly believe in Christ and seek Him and His will, because He alone is our food and our strength, that's when we dont have to try to be smart or clever or figure everything out, but the Holy Spirit will lead us into everything, or away from some things..
Maybe this is in fact what you are saying, that the Holy Spirit gives us the wisdom to do what we need to do, when we need to do it.
But to be clothed in the righteousness of Christ, is truly to be denying ourself, picking up our cross daily, and following after Jesus. This is how we are clothed, and unfortunately and very sadly, there are so many that are trusting in a prayer that they once said.
Its mind boggling, the number of Christians that I have personally heard speak these words, that all you have to do is say this simple prayer, and then you are written in the Book of Life, Im talking about many, many pastors that teach this and many church goers that believe it.
When you are clothed in His righteousness, He will certainly direct your path and then, no weapon formed against you will prosper.
Blessings In Christ,
Chris
