Someone recently wrote...."The written Word is secondary to a man of God." The following short chapter in Amos will explain why that isn't true.
Amos 8:1 Thus hath the Lord GOD shewed unto me: and behold a basket of summer fruit.
The fruit, God's children, are ripe and it is time for harvest...and/or threshing. So, this sets the time frame for this prophecy....the end of days!
8:2 And he said, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A basket of summer fruit. Then said the LORD unto me, The end is come upon my people of Israel; I will not again pass by them any more.
This is not speaking of the tiny little country Israel but His children.....all tribes, Jews and Christians.
8:3 And the songs of the temple shall be howlings in that day, saith the Lord GOD: there shall be many dead bodies in every place; they shall cast them forth with silence.
In "that day," is the end of days, the time of Satan's "great tribulation." The howlings come from the temple, the churches when they will realize that their traditions, their holy "man made" traditions will not be acceptable to God. Who are the "dead bodies?" The spiritually dead that listen to man instead of their Father. They place man before the Word of God. To God they are considered the dead. The "silence" is because they don't realize they are the dead and in their blindness they are causing others to die spiritually.
8:4 Hear this, O ye that swallow up the needy, even to make the poor of the land to fail,
Inflation and usury...what our country is now experiencing.
8:5 Saying, When will the new moon be gone, that we may sell corn? and the sabbath, that we may set forth wheat, making the ephah small, and the shekel great, and falsifying the balances by deceit?
The ungodly can't wait for the sabbath to be over so they can continue stealing from God's children. This speaks of much more than physical things. Satan and his followers chase our souls.....we are their prize.
8:6 That we may buy the poor for silver, and the needy for a pair of shoes; yea, and sell the refuse of the wheat?
8:7 The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works.
Revelation 14:13 And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, "Write, 'Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit that they may rest from their labours; andTHEIR WORKS DO FOLLOW THEM.'"
Both good and bad works follow us. We must repent of the bad.
8:8 Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt.
There will be "floods" of trouble, as there are now in these end days...if we are part of this we must repent and sin no more.
8:9 And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day:
In that day is speaking of the time of Satan...his hour of temptation, his great tribulation.come.Joel 2:30-31 And I will shew wonders in the heavens and in the earth, blood, and fire and pillars of smoke. The sun shall be turned into darkness and the moon into blood, before the great and the terrible day of the Lord
This happens at "noon " and that is May through September....the time of Satan's locust army on the earth, the time God has allotted him to deceive the world.
8:10 And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.
It will be bitter for those that will then realize they have taken the mark...they have worshipped the wrong Christ. Why will they follow the fake? Because they listen to man and don't hear the Words of the Lord. Instead they put their trust in a man who tells them that he is teaching them about our Father but....is he? Everything man teaches must be documented in our Father's Word....or, it isn't His Word.
8:11 Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD:
In churches today how many true Words of the Lord do we hear? Perhaps one or two lines of scripture and then......The famine is here now but we have the ability to feed ourselves.
John 14:26 But the Comforter, Which is the Holy Ghost, Whom the Father will send in My name, He shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you.
Christ has "said" unto us through His Word. It is through His Word that the Holy Spirit will "teach us all things." Can a man bring that to you? Yes, but you must never place that man over the written Word of the Lord.
8:12 And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.
Daniel 12:4 But thou, O Daniel, shut up the words, and seal the book, even to the time of the end: many shall run to and fro, and knowledge shall be increased.'Running "to and fro" is interesting. It means, to rove, turn about, despise...hence, to apostatize. They turn aside to lies. The Septuagint, Swete's edition, vol. iii, p. 572 (A) reads "till many shall have gone raving mad." The "knowledge" that will increase is....calamities and wickedness according to the Septuagint. ~ Bullinger
So, in the end times, man will run in apostasy....why? Because he is not hearing the Word of the Lord. There are many "men" telling us what they say is holy but we are not hearing "The Words of the Lord." They will put the Written Word in a secondary position to that of a man of God. How do they know he is a "man of God"....because he, a man, tells them so.
8:13 In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst.
They crave knowledge and yet they are fed milk....not meat.
8:14 They that swear by the sin of Samaria, and say, Thy god, O Dan, liveth; and, The manner of Beersheba liveth; even they shall fall, and never rise up again.
When the twelve tribes split...the ten northern tribes, under direction of their "man" king worshipped a calf instead of making the trip to the temple. That was the "sin of Samaria" that the "house of Israel," those ten northern tribes, committed by heeding a man, a man in leadership. They placed a man before the written Word of God.
