Jacob, later to be named Israel...father of the twelve tribes, began his journey. Remember, of the twelve tribes only two are considered Jews. That is Judah and Benjamin, the "house of Judah." The other ten tribes, "house of Israel," were scattered by God and are Christians today.
29:2 And he looked, and behold a well in the field, and, lo, there were three flocks of sheep lying by it; for out of that well they watered the flocks: and a great stone was upon the well's mouth.
The "field" is the world [Matthew 13:38]. The "well" represents the living water that His sheep drink from. But....the flocks aren't drinking....just as the flocks today. Why? Because a "great stone" kept/keeps the sheep from the living water.
When the word "great" describes something it is usually associated with Satan. The "great whore," the "great tribulation," the "great city Babylon." So here I believe the same holds true. The "great stone" is Satan. Satan covers the "mouth" of the well of living water, keeping God's Words from being heard by the sheep.1 Kings 1:9 And Adonijah slew sheep and oxen and fat cattle by the STONE OF ZOHELETH, which is by En-rogel, and called all his brethren the king's sons, and all the men of Judah the king's servants:Adonijah is a type of Satan. He slew sheep....meaning God's children, by the Stone of Zoheleth. That means...The Serpent Stone! How does he slay us, God's sheep? With deception. By not allowing the true Word of God to be heard. Instead it is bable, confusion and lies. Is that same Serpent Stone the "great stone" over the well's mouth when Jacob/Israel arrived? Yes...and it is up to us Israel, Christians, children of God to remove that great stone so the sheep can drink.
29:3 And thither were all the flocks gathered: and they rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the sheep, and put the stone again upon the well's mouth in HIS place.
The flocks that were gathered were only three in number. There were more flocks, more sheep but only three were watered and then....the "great stone" was placed back over the living water. Why? Just as today...it isn't yet time for all to be watered. Notice that the stone is referred to as HIS, not it.
This story parallels that of Moses.....
Exodus 2:15 Now when Pharaoh heard this thing, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh, and dwelt in the land of Midian: and he sat down by a well. Both Moses and Jacob were running away from a problem and both...ended up by a well where they met their respective wife. The well Moses approached was Lahairoi and it means...."Well of the Living God." This is also known as the well of Jethro and the well of Hagar [Gen.;16:7,14] where she met the Angel of the Lord and "she bare Ishmael." Isaac "dwelt" beside that Well of the Living God as did Jethro and his seven daughters (who in types represent Jacob/Israel and the seven churches of Revelation). All drawing living water from the Living God.
29:4 And Jacob said unto them, "My brethren, whence be ye?" And they said, "Of Haran are we."
29:5 And he said unto them, "Know ye Laban the son of Nahor?" And they said,: "We know him."
29:6 And he said unto them, "Is he well?" And they said, "He is well: and, behold, Rachel his daughter cometh with the sheep."
29:7 And he said, "Lo, it is yet high day, neither is it time that the cattle should be gathered together: water ye the sheep, and go and feed them"
The sheep represent God's children. The "cattle" represent Gentiles or unbelievers. It isn't yet time for the cattle to receive the living water or the bread of life.
29:8 And they said, "We cannot, until all the flocks be gathered together, and till they roll the stone from the well's mouth; then we water the sheep.
All of the flocks will not be gathered until the end of days...then the stone will be taken away and all can drink. This is why some of us are blind and deaf to His truth today....it isn't yet time.
29:9 And while he yet spake with them, Rachel came with her father's sheep: for she kept them.
29:10 And it came to pass, when Jacob saw Rachel, the daughter of Laban his mother's brother, and the sheep of Laban his mother's brother, that Jacob went near, and rolled the stone from the well's mouth, and watered the flock of Laban his mother's brother.
When it is time, when all the sheep are gathered it is Jacob/Israel....God's elect that water the flock. The elect, in the end of days, will allow the Holy Spirit to speak through them.
29:11 And Jacob kissed Rachel, and lifted up his voice, and wept.
29:12 And Jacob told Rachel that he was her father's brother, and that he was Rebekah's son: and she ran and told her father.
Hebrew doesn't have words that describe relatives as we do. Jacob was her father's nephew, not brother.
29:13 And it came to pass, when Laban heard the tidings of Jacob his sister's son, that he ran to meet him, and embraced him, and kissed him, and brought him to his house. And he told Laban all these things.
29:14 And Laban said to him, "Surely thou art my bone and my flesh." And he abode with him the space of a month
These scriptures are much deeper than what has been shown here...who does Laban represent, who are the two daughters Rachael and Leah, etc. but I thought the stone over the well was very interesting and wanted to bring it forward.
