Genesis 3:15 - "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; "it" shall bruise thy head , and "thou" shalt bruise his heel"

The very first piece of information I want to point out, is dealing with the seed of the woman. If you have too, read this verse as many times as it takes you to realize, that the word "it" refers to "her seed" and the word "thou" refers to the serpent himself.

Remember: God is talking to the serpent. So the wording is towards him and no one else. This verse is saying (God speaking) to the serpent - enmity = hatred - "and between thy seed and her seed; "it" the woman's seed - shall bruise thy head"

"and "thou" - the serpent shalt bruise his heel"

Now - Notice that the seed of the woman shall bruise his head

Now notice - That the seed of the serpent will not bruise his heel, but the serpent himself / herself

If "you" do not notice this, then you either need to look closer or study more to come to the correct conclusion.

The serpent is the Devil/Satan !

The only thing that he / she is, is the father of the lie ! - John 8:44 - Father of the lie

Jesus told men of the devil , which was "their father", this in John 8:39 - "If ye were Abraham's children, ye would do the works of Abraham (father of all believing) . They claimed that Abraham was their father, and they would not believe. In verse 40 Jesus tells them that they seek to kill him, a man that hath told you the truth, which "I" (Jesus Christ) have heard of God: this did not Abraham"
The devil only has followers that do his work for him. These followers , not only lie for the devil, but will kill for the devil. Because the devil is their father.

Now back to Genesis 3:15 . The seed of the serpent, God said, that he would put enmity (hatred) between thy seed and the seed of the woman. His seed are his followers, because he is only the father of lies. The word "seed" in the Strong's concordance, means different things. The first meaning, is "scattered seed by sowing of the seed". Those who enjoy private interpretation , will choose the meaning of the word, that fits their own personnal view. The word "seed" can mean offspring, but that meaning is given of the woman "only" ! The seed of the woman is a male offspring, male gender.

If you look closely again at Gen. 3:15 you will notice that God does not indicate that the seed of the devil will bruise the heel of the male offspring of the woman. But that "thou" shalt bruise his heel". That is because the serpent does not have literal seed of itself.
What it sows is lies < this is the seed of the serpent. It scatters its seed , like the first meaning of this word "seed". So it is scattering its lies. The lies "are" the seed of the serpent, that is why God said "thou" shalt bruise his heel !

Of course, there is more to talk about pertaining to Gen. 3:15, but for now, if discussions only disagree with this information. Then there is no reason to continue. Like mindedness makes for a reason/purpose to continue.

"And to your seed," that is, Christ.

Seems like NM claims "seed" is always the literal child of a woman.

How does that square with Jesus being born over 1000 years after Abraham physicaly lived ?

I am going to give you something to look up. In fact, I am going to give you "two" things to look up in your Stongs concordance.

The first word "seed" I want you to look up is in Gen. 3:15 . This deals with the "seed" of the serpent and the "seed" of the woman. Both words are the same word in the Strongs concordance. Since you are such a Hebrew scholar, I am sure you can tell me if this word is "figurative" or "literal". Now, just to let you know, I have already looked it up. And I know the answer ! If you come up with the wrong answer, I know then you are "not" a student of the Hebrew language !

The second word I want you to look up, is the word "seed" in Matthew 13:37 and tell me if this word is "literal" or "figurative".

I will only continue a conversation with you, "if" you come up with the correct answser !

I just gave N M something to look up. The word "seed" is used both literally and figuratively within the Word of God. In Gen. 3:15 the word "seed" used both for the serpent and the woman is "figurative" . Neither one has literal seed of themselves. The seed of the woman is her male offspring , and the seed of the serpent is his lies.

Jesus Christ spoke in parables of the Word of God being "seed". The "spoken" Word is "seed". As long as it is the truth. When Jesus spoke the words of God, they were the "seed" being sown. The seed is - "The Word of God". Matthew 13:37, then in Matthew 13:38 it tells us that the "seed" are the children of the kingdom. In verse 39 we read, the enemy that sowed them is the devil. The tares are the lies of the devil, and all those who make the devil their father by listening and obeying the lies of the devil. We see here in verses 38 and 39 that the devil "sows" his seed. He isn't getting anyone pregnant. He is sowing his lies. Jesus spoke in parables, to teach the spiritual by story form, that uses the literal, to explain the spiritual. The word "seed" in Matthew 13:37 is the Greek word "sperma", but it is being used figuatively not literally. "Sperma" is used 43 times in the NT, and once it is translated into the english word - "issue". All 44 usages are the Greek word - "sperma". Some are used literally while at other times this word is used figuratively. Even when it is talking about the literal, it still is speaking in the figurative. In Hebrews 11:11 it tells us, that "through faith Sarah herself received strength to conceive seed, and was delivered of a child when she wsa past age, because she judged him faithful who had promised" < She literally conceived seed. But she was past age, and by faith she conceived. Not of her own ability, because she was past age. But because of the promise of God that she would conceive. What is impossible for man, is not impossible for God. So she conceived by faith, literal seed (Isaach) who was "promised" by God, who was the "promised seed". As Christ also was the "promised seed". The messiah to come. Seed - literal - but brought forth spiritually in both cases. Isaach was literal in all aspects of his being. Yet, Christ was only literal in the flesh, because his 'seed' was of his Father in heaven. One the literal = Isaach and the other the spiritual = Christ. Both were promised seeds.

John 7:42 - "Christ cometh of the seed of David" , the flesh line of Christ is of the lineage of David, through Mary. Here is where it gets interesting. The whole "phrase" - "Christ cometh of the seed of David" is a figurative statement, with literal implications. That is because, God is his Father, not man. But Christ has a flesh body, and his flesh body came from the lineage of David. What makes this phrase a figurative statement, is the "fact" that the name "Christ" comes from his lineage , his Father. Christ is the seed line literlly of his Father. Christ is of the flesh line of David figuratively.

Abraham was the father of all faith. So, if we read or say, are you of your father Abraham ? Literally , no I am not, but spiritually, yes I am. Jesus Christ was "both". Jesus Christ's flesh line was of Abraham - lineage - Matthew chapter one. But his seed line literally is of his Father in heaven. Jesus Christ "believed" and had "faith". His "faith" was "of" his Father, becasue he was the Son of God. A father teaches his Son.

In Genesis 3:15 the "seed" of the serpent is figurative, and the seed of the woman is also figurative "and" literal, in that she gave birth to a literal son. But to say - "her seed" when in fact, she does not have seed of her own, that means the words - "her seed" is figurative statement, as well as the words spoken about the serpent. The seed of the serpent has no literal seed of its own. His "seed" are his words of lies. He sowes his seeds of lies to those who will "eat them". Some people believe a lie for a while, being deceived. But if truth is spoken, they leave the lie for the truth. While others will not. These people are of their father the devil, because they themselves do not desire the truth, and the truth is not in them, because they do not desire it.

Greetings,

Let us dig for the buried treasure. The Seed of the woman is Christ, but let us not limit this to only Christ. It applies to every child born of a woman who grasps it by faith. The seed of the woman is the seed of Abraham; and “if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.” It is given to every child of God to crush Satan.

“The God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly?” Rom. xvi. 20. Christ had to become flesh and blood, like the children of men, in order “that He might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil.” Heb. 2:14. He has “authority to execute judgment also, because He is the Son of man” (John 5: 27), and “this honour have all His saints.” Ps. 149:5-9.

Furthermore, has Satan ever bruised your heel?

"I am crucified WITH Christ" Gal. 2:20. Anyone on earth, by faith may grasp this beautiful truth. How are we constriained by God's love? THE CROSS, glory be to our Saviour! "For the love of Christ constraineth us ... that if ONE died for all, the were ALL dead" 2 Cor. 5:14. The whole human race died in Christ, may we believe this beautiful truth. May we not persistantly and deliberately and continually reject this grand truth of the Gospel.

" ... as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned." Romans 5:12. When Adam sinned, it was passed on to all of his posterity. We have all sinned in Adam. ... It can also be true that those who do not believe are lying, why because they do not "believe." This can refer to the literal children, hence they are also from the father of lies. They go hand in hand.

Thank God in Christ, He has reversed this judgment at the cross and is not imputing anyone's sin to them. Let us share this good news, and may they "believe" the good news!

Another well said post.

But I wanted to focus on the "seed" to begin with. and the information about the word "seed" being in the figurative. A woman does not have seed of herself. A son, is holy, because the Word tells us that every male that opens the womb is called holy.

The serpent was given a curse, and "that curse" went into immediate effect. The coming of Christ was many years down the road. Yet, the curse went into immediate effect.

Notice, that the serpent's seed did not bruise 'his' heel. The word "thou" was used. "thou shalt bruise his heel".

Too many people want to "jump" to Jesus Christ, before they realize that the curse was in its immediate effect. Starting from the begining of the curse, we can learn a great deal about the spirituality of the truth within the Word of God, "before" we are so anxious to "jump" forward in the scriptures.

What I am trying to do, is slow people down, and lets look at the record by detail. Then move forward.

I'm now going to play with that verse in a different perspective and see how it fits.

Genesis 3:15 - "And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; "it" shall bruise thy head , and "thou" shalt bruise his heel"

So we know that God is talking to the serpent and to the woman.
Something is placed between the serpent and the woman.
If we uses algebra, seed and seed will cancel out so now we have this. "and between thy and her"

I wonder who is "it"

considering that "it" is the serpent and who head did it bruise? Jesus Christ for he wore them torns on his head. And burise his heel? Yes, jesus was also bruised in the heel with nails.

if we let "it" be jesus then Jesus bruise the head of the serpent and the serpent uses them men to crucified Jesus and hurt his heels.

Do also noted that this Devil not only once but other times in the bible to test Jesus. He brought him up to the highest mountain. He uses other people to test Jesus to get him to fall. Jesus as being mortal is then able to be tempted and bruised by this devil.

My ideas is not worldly viewed but it is a concept that creeps into my head just now. Oh how many ways can we read the bible and see differently.

I dont even need to open the Hebrew..........

Ok let me start with the latter,,,,,,,,I wont tell you what it means I will let Christ tell you!!!!

38The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one;

Now unless your blind,,,or very very stupid,,,and your not blind,,,,,you should see that Christ said "the good seed are the children of the kingdom"

as far as Genesis 3:15 you already said that that it means literal offspring,,,,,do I need to post it so you can remember what you said.......
BibleScholar
Could this seed also means something else?

like perhaps....and once again, I'll play with things to see how it'll fit so forgive me if I'm challenging myself to find new ideas and concepts out there to brighten up my young mind.

So we know that before the eating from the forbidden tree, everything was good. The two don't know what is right and wrong. All they know is what is right and not the knowledge of wrong. Even after they ate, they disobeyed god and that is still good unless God said so that it is bad. Could this seed be the introduction of Good and evil? From this point on, you the devil and you the people will not get along for Good and evil will clash. Every humans are born good are they not? Unless we put in that "sin of the father" effect as a default for every newborns.

I told you, that the woman did not have seed of herself. So that means the word "seed" is figurative. Men literally have "seed", women - figuratively.

Her male offspring is "her seed".

Even the Stongs concordance tells us that the word "seed" is used figuratively. And it is used figuratively in both cases. The woman's seed and the seed of the serpent !

That is why, in Gen. 3:15, the curse put upon the serpent , when it talks about the seed of the serpent, the seed never bruises his heel. The Word of God states clearly and plainly, that it is the serpent that bruises "his heel", which is the male offspring of the woman. That is why in Gen. 3:15 the word "thou" is used, in the verse, because "thou" represents the serpent not the seed. "Thou shalt bruise his heel"

The seed of the wo man is the posterity, the future generations.

Now, speaking to M M. the bible says, '. . . it shall bruise thy head and thou shall bruise his heel.'
The 'it' is the enmity. The enmity will cause the rulership of the serpent to be overwhelmed and the serpent will circumvent (trip up) the rear armies of the future generations. See, that is happening right now with the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

I think I remember text at that verse tells us the seed in that verse is word of God/truth.

also thinking about "seed of Abraham". Abraham to have descendants liken to "stars in the heavens" ....

Abraham had literal blood descendants,... Hebrews ,.....

but also having spiritual descendants ... those who walk in faith as Abraham did ,....

QUOTE (Mysteryman @ Nov 10 2008, 09:00 PM) *

I suppose no one has an answer for how "sin" became so intrinsically entwined in our flesh bodies.

Rom 7:17 Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.
Rom 7:18 For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing:
Rom 7:20 Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me.

God is more powerful than Satan.

Agree so far ?

God allowed Satan to tempt Eve.

Still in synch ?

God allowing Satan to tempt Eve

does not mean God would allow Satan to do ANYTHING/EVERYTHING.

Certainly we can think of many example of a person in power/authority
allowing subordinates to do some things, but not allowing them to do other things.
