Packs of robots will hunt down uncooperative humans


The latest request from the Pentagon jars the senses. At least, it did mine. They are looking for contractors to provide a "Multi-Robot Pursuit System" that will let packs of robots "search for and detect a non-cooperative human".

One thing that really bugs defence chiefs is having their troops diverted from other duties to control robots. So having a pack of them controlled by one person makes logistical sense. But I'm concerned about where this technology will end up.

Given that iRobot last year struck a deal with Taser International to mount stun weapons on its military robots, how long before we see packs of droids hunting down pesky demonstrators with paralysing weapons? Or could the packs even be lethally armed? I asked two experts on automated weapons what they thought - click the continue reading link to read what they said. Both were concerned that packs of robots would be entrusted with tasks - and weapons - they were not up to handling without making wrong decisions.

Steve Wright of Leeds Metropolitan University is an expert on police and military technologies, and last year correctly predicted this pack-hunting mode of operation would happen. "The giveaway here is the phrase 'a non-cooperative human subject'," he told me:

"What we have here are the beginnings of something designed to enable robots to hunt down humans like a pack of dogs. Once the software is perfected we can reasonably anticipate that they will become autonomous and become armed.

We can also expect such systems to be equipped with human detection and tracking devices including sensors which detect human breath and the radio waves associated with a human heart beat. These are technologies already developed."

Another commentator often in the news for his views on military robot autonomy is Noel Sharkey, an AI and robotics engineer at the University of Sheffield. He says he can understand why the military want such technology, but also worries it will be used irresponsibly.

"This is a clear step towards one of the main goals of the US Army's Future Combat Systems project, which aims to make a single soldier the nexus for a large scale robot attack. Independently, ground and aerial robots have been tested together and once the bits are joined, there will be a robot force under command of a single soldier with potentially dire consequences for innocents around the corner."

I can see it now. You don't accept the "mark" / verichip and these robots will instantly deem you a uncooperative, the operator will then send in the stormtroopers in black helicopters to the GPS position to apprehend you for deposit into the FEMA camps.

it also reminds me of a movie i saw when i was in prison it was about this dude who has rich clients it was set in america what this guy does with his rich clients who are tired of hunting animals and want to try something diffrent he goes out to the streets picks homeless people what he offers them is $10,000 or $20,000 the money is put in a belt and he gives them the rules no weapons and tells them if they make it to the finish line the money is theirs he then wil ring one of his rich clients tells them where to meet him he has his own team who go on the hunt with the rich client they use high powered weapons the men who go on the hunt with the client have 4 wheel drives and motor bikes and two helicopters with sencor red set up to detect the human picked for the hunt

the dude that oppted to be hunted ends up turning on the hunter and he kills them all and then goes after the ring leader

i have been hearing this too but to be honest i am not scared if i am around and this happens i know i wil have god on my side i dont let storys like this scare me i am more concerned though for our women and our kids

Killer Military Robots Pose Latest Threat To Humanity, Robotics Expert Warns

ScienceDaily (Feb. 28, 2008) — A robotics expert at the University of Sheffield has issued stark warnings over the threat posed to humanity by new robot weapons being developed by powers worldwide.

In a keynote address to the Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Professor Noel Sharkey, from the University's Department of Computer Science, expressed his concerns that we are beginning to see the first steps towards an international robot arms race. He will warn that it may not be long before robots become a standard terrorist weapon to replace the suicide bomber.

Many nations are now involved in developing the technology for robot weapons, with the US Department of Defence (DoD) being the most significant player. According to the Unmanned Systems Roadmap 2007-2013 (published in December 2007), the US propose to spend an estimated $4 billion by 2010 on unmanned systems technology. The total spending is expected to rise above $24 billion.

Over 4,000 robots are currently deployed on the ground in Iraq and by October 2006 unmanned aircraft had flown 400,000 flight hours. Currently there is always a human in the loop to decide on the use of lethal force. However, this is set to change with the US giving priority to autonomous weapons - robots that will decide on where, when and who to kill.

Others are now embarking on robot weapons programmes in Europe and other allied countries such as Canada, South Korea, South Africa, Singapore and Israel. China, Russia and India are also embarking on the development of unmanned aerial combat vehicle. The US DoD report is unsure about the activity in China but admits that they have strong infrastructure capability for parallel developments in robot weapons.

Professor Sharkey, who is famously known for his roles as chief judge on the TV series Robot Wars and as onscreen expert for the BBC´s TechnoGames, said: "The trouble is that we can't really put the genie back in the bottle. Once the new weapons are out there, they will be fairly easy to copy. How long is it going to be before the terrorists get in on the act?"

"With the current prices of robot construction falling dramatically and the availability of ready-made components for the amateur market, it wouldn't require a lot of skill to make autonomous robot weapons."

Professor Sharkey is reluctant to explain how such robots could be made but he points out that a small GPS guided drone with autopilot could be made for around £250.

The robotics expert is also concerned with a number of ethical issues that arise from the use of autonomous weapons. He added: "Current robots are dumb machines with very limited sensing capability. What this means is that it is not possible to guarantee discrimination between combatants and innocents or a proportional use of force as required by the current Laws of War.

"It seems clear that there is an urgent need for the international community to assess the risks of these new weapons now rather than after they have crept their way into common use."

Professor Sharkey's talk was at a one-day conference at RUSI in Whitehall on 27 February 2008.

Just over two years ago a scientific conference was held in New Zealand and a lecture was given by a visiting European University professor who described nanotechnology as "the future". I was working for the aging parents of this visiting professor at the time this conference and his lecture took place, and I learned that scientists believe it is within their reach to modify any biological function at a molecular level using "nanotechnology". Apparently extremely small components can be implanted in a body to control the atomic particles of that area and cause them to function in a desired manner. While medically this is seen as a major leap forward which has the potential to do away with the need for drugs and surgery, there is the concern that this technology will be exploited by political factions and commercial enterprises across the whole spectrum of human endeavours.

Without stretching our credibility beyond reason we can see how scientists could be persuaded to "make an image TO the beast" that could be brought to life by remote control or voice recognition.

There is more truth in your thoughts than most Christians ever even think about. I read a book by Ray Kurzweil, The Singularity is Near.

He is an inventor and a respected futurist. Watch his stuff on youtube. He asserts that, by 2048, the first artificial intellignece will go online. That event will exponentially escelated technological advances beyond what is possible for the human mind to even image right now. All biological Life will be enhanced and replicatable with technological, artificial "life." Human life spans will be vastly increased. All medial problems will be immediatley and easily solved. All the powers that belong to magic today will be easily accomplished through technology. There is no limit to technological increase exept possibly the limitation of space and time. The world will "wake up" into an amalgam of artificial collective consciousness and biological life.

It sounds crazy. But the technology is already being developed all around the world. Technology is being developed on the microscopic scal. Soon, biological living cells will be able to be engineered from the cell's nucleus. Then, with the information being uncovered as we map the human genome, we will be able to mold our very genetics to whatever we desire. No more diseases, no more waiting for natural healing, no more medicine. All genetic repair, enhancement and creativity.

God may not allow this level of technology to be reached. God may allow it on the other hand. I think of the tower of Babel.

No one said anything about the beasts in Rev 9. And no, they are not literal.

The Locust are the same locust spoken of here,,,,,Revelation 9:5 "And to them it was given that they should not kill them, but that they should be tormented five months: and their torment was as the torment of a scorpion, when he striketh a man."

God has given us a good clue as to how long Satan will rule as Antichrist. That time is five months. The book of Joel describes in detail how this method of the locust works. The result of that torment is exactly as the torment of the scorpion that "striketh a man". So try to understand more of both the locust, and the scorpion.............

This is that locust army of Satan that will deliver up the sons and daughters to prophecy against the Antichrist, as spoken of in Joel 2...........

Strongly agree with you Eli, this passage in Rev 9 is not referring to anything that is literal locusts.
Scripture should always be compared to other scripture, and not just interpreted out of our imagination and what we wish something to mean.

Saying that there are "fallen angelics" that are living under the river euphrates is just making up an explanation out of thin air and has no basis in fact. There is no way to prove this outside of scripture, and there are no scriptures in the word of GOd that would cause us to come up with this
interpretation.


THe Lord is referring to that which is mentioned in the Word of God:

They are not cut down. (the weapon is the s-Word of God and they do not rightly divide it and it has no effect on them because they preach a "different" gospel)

They enter at the windows like a thief. (the thief comes to destroy, as a locust detroys wheat/bread/the word - John 10:1 and 10:10)

(Jesus is the Sun of righteousness Mal 4:2 Jesus, the truth of the word, is no longer the truth that is preached, but the truth is exchanged for a lie and has become darkened. The moon (church) reflects the Sun, but it too is now dark. Matt 6:23)
And the stars diminish their brightness.

The Word of the Lord proves itself and compares itself to itself.

Continuing to say that all of these things written in Revelation 9 is in regard to "fallen angelics", is
simply not verifiable outside of shear speculation and personal opinion and has nothing to do with the proof of the Word of God.

Without question, it takes a great deal of stretching to get from "4 angels bound at the great river euphrates" found in Rev 9:14, to:




And this is considered sound doctrine???

If they persecuted the Lord, they will certainly persecuted His disciples (by things such as taunting, scorning and sarcasm when speaking to one another or simply put, mocking as you speak to me, stephen)

If they kept CHrist's doctrine, they will keep the brides as well, but if they did not keep His, then they will not keep ours.

And that is of course not limited to explaining the scriptures, it also speaks of how we speak to one another in Love or rather a lack of it.

I love you guys regardless, but the question that I would ask is this, if Jesus said that the way is narrow and that there would be few that would find it, doesnt that scare you in preaching things that the greater multitudes are following??

I go back to things that Jesus said like "a good tree brings forth good fruit and a bad tree brings forth bad fruit, whereby you shall know them by thier fruit"

The Lord is faithful and when He reveals His truth, we know it within our own spirit and we bare witness to the Truth..

So many times when people speak about the hidden things of the Word of God, there seems to be nagging doubts in us that just do not agree with all the things that they are saying,.

But When the Spirit of the Lord speaks,!!! WOW!! you just know within you that it is true, as His Word bares witness of itself and scripture gels with other scripture.

Does this mean that this has all been fulfilled with regard to the Temple??

Christ Himself is the Temple! He is the showbread, He is the Menorrah, He is the Oil that is lit, He is the Mercy seat, He is the sacrifice!!!

So, the Temple (as well as many other items and events throughout the Word of God) was a shadow and a picture of things to come..

They are throughout the Word of God....

That's so true...and that is or He is our discernment with eachother as well. I can honestly say reading what you wrote that you got it and you have Him inside you. That is not to say there are still things we have to work through with understanding...where the Word of God stands there is still lessons to be learned and more and more of Jesus Christ to be revealed. He perfects us by and through His Word..

Ancient Greek myth relays of the creation of an ancient technological robot named Talos: "giant protector of Minos island ".
