Acts 16;16 NIV
She was a demon-possessed slave girl. She was a fortune-teller who earned a lot of money for her masters.
The dictionary says: Fortunetelling: the art or practice of predicting/foretelling the future.
The girl couldn't do fortunetelling AFTER the demon left her.
The demon could predict the future. The girl couldn't do it; The demon could do it.
Satan is nothing more than a demon. Of course, he's the Leader of the demons.
Satan can predict/know the future?
Notice! The fortunetelling demon did not appear in public as a HUGE frightful monster. The demon was in-dwelling a "GIRL" (young, gentle, beneficial, attractive?, helpful, worthy of her pay, petite?, the gender of the "weaker vessel", vulnerable?, not intimidating, long and pretty hair?, winsome, alluring, kiss-able and hug-able).
Probably, many of the girl's clients were un-aware that they were within feet of a demon.
How many of us on this Forum can predict the future? Are we getting our info from Jesus? Or Satan?
I've done many things, but I've never predicted the future.
I've never been "slain in the Spirit", never spoke in tongues, never had a vision, never interpreted tongues or dreams, never seen a blatant miracle, etc
But! Satan cometh, working great Lying Signs and Wonders!
And predicting the future!
How exciting for me!

Moderator's note:
This post is to me on the edge of culpability because those things which dennis shares in telling us he has never experienced, I have myself experienced and I can assure you I am not demonized. I cannot predict the future either. Many have been touched in this way and it is validated in the fruit of who we have become in Him. All the prophetic posts I have made have come as a result of interpretaion of tongues. That necessitates speaking in tongues.
1Co 14:5 I would that ye all spake with tongues, but rather that ye prophesied: for greater [is] he that prophesieth than he that speaketh with tongues, except he interpret, that the church may receive edifying.
Out of respect for dennis, it goes to the board for perusal and edification. This is after all, a forum where views are given air time. I speak here as a brother in Christ.

Hi folks,
THE HEAVENLY THINGS OF THE SPIRIT CANNOT BE DISCERNED BY THE NATURAL MIND.
We will recall that the many disciples who could not read the spirit of the words of Jesus (Jn.6:53-64), but could only focus on the literal meaning of His words, left him (Jn.6:64-69).
"From that time many of his disciples went back, and walked no more with him" (Jn.6:66).
Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews, also had the same problem of spiritual blindness when he sought Jesus for the meaning of being "born again" (Jn.3:7-13). He was totally confined to the natural mind of his carnality and he had no perception of spiritual things.
"Nicodemus saith unto him, How can a man be born again when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born?" (Jn.3:4).
"If I told you earthly things, and ye believe not, how shall ye believe, if I tell you of heavenly things?" (Jn.3:12).
Nicodemus and the disciples of the Lord who left him knew the scriptures and were supposed to be involved in the work of God. However, they could not see spiritually in order to grasp the spiritual language of symbols, parables and metaphors. The great multitudes that followed Jesus were also blinded to the language of the Spirit in the parables of Jesus (Mt.13:1-17). Unlike the disciples who followed Jesus totally and intimately, the multitudes were hearing, but they could not understand.
"And the disciples came, and said unto him, Why speakest thou unto them in parables?
He answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given" (Mt.13:10-11).
We have found the same problem of spiritual blindness outworking in the ministry of dreams and visions in the churches today. Many are receiving communion from God in dreams and visions but the people are not able to discern God in them nor are they able to interpret them. Worse still, many ministers discourage the ministry of dreams and visions because it is a closed realm to them. This situation is described accurately in the book of Job:
"For God speaketh once, yea twice, yet man perceiveth it not.
In a dream, in a vision of the night, when deep sleep falleth upon men, in slumberings upon the bed;
Then he openeth the ears of men, and sealeth their instruction" (Job 33:14-16).
Again the exhortation is for Christians to seek to be directly and intimately taught and led of the Holy Ghost (Rom.8:14). The Holy Spirit is the invisible one who perfectly reveals Jesus and the things of Jesus Christ and the kingdom of God to us.
"He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.
All things that the Father hath are mine: therefore said I, that he shall take of mine, and shall shew it unto you" (Jn.16:14-15).

Continued...
GROW AND DEVELOP IN YOUR INTERPRETATION ABILITY IN THE HOLY GHOST.
Just as we need to grow and develop in our interpretation and understanding of the scriptures in the Holy Spirit, so we need to grow and develop in our ability to interpret dreams and visions of God. This is the same thing as saying that we need to grow and develop in intimately knowing the Holy Spirit and in intimately communing with Him. Only then can we be directly taught and led of God.
"For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God" (Rom.8:14).
The ability to interpret dreams and visions of God is credible evidence that we walk in intimate "fellowship of the Spirit" (Phil.2:1). The Spirit of divine wisdom and revelation is in our knowledge of the Holy One (Eph.1:17).
Unlike many ministers and religious scribes today, Pharaoh recognized the Spirit of God in Joseph when Joseph was able to interpret his dreams.
"And Pharaoh said unto his servants, Can we find such a one as this is, a man in whom the spirit of God is?
And Pharaoh said unto Joseph, Forasmuch as God hath shewed thee all this, there is none so discreet and wise as thou art:
Thou shalt be over my house, and according unto thy word shall all my people be ruled…" (Gen.41:38-40).
King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon also recognized the Spirit of God with Daniel when Daniel was able to tell the king's forgotten dreams and the interpretations of them.
"The king answered unto Daniel, and said, Of a truth it is, that your God is a God of gods, and the Lord of kings, and a revealer of secrets, seeing thou couldst reveal this secret.
Then the king made Daniel a great man, and gave him many gifts, and made him ruler over the whole province of Babylon, and chief of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon" (Dan.2:47-48).
The same Spirit of God that was in Joseph and Daniel in the Old Testament is now in all spiritual Christians under the New Testament Covenant in Christ Jesus (Acts 2:38-39). It is a tragic thing when we ignore as priority the presence and reality of the Holy Spirit, and run to books, tapes and flesh and blood ministers to be our sole teachers and guides.
Is it sufficient for us to just talk about the Holy One and yet grieve Him in our ignorance of His presence and ministry? Concerning the Holy Ghost, we are fat in theory but anorexic in practicality. It is time for us not to be conformed to the spirit of this world, but to be transformed by the renewing of our minds, that we may hear and prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God (Rom.12:2). All Spiritual Christians have the ability to be intimately taught and led of the Holy Spirit (1Jn.2:20,27).
"But the anointing which ye have received of him abideth in you, and ye need not that any man teach you: but as the same anointing teacheth you of all things, and is truth, and is no lie, and even as it hath taught you, ye shall abide in him" (1Jn.2:27).

WE MUST BE WEANED FROM MILK LEVEL TO MEAT LEVEL OF INTERPRETATION
Most of us begin with milk level interpretation. Here we are very dependent on familiar meanings to certain symbolism and have a list of symbols for reference. Most dreams and visions have pictures and symbolism from our culture, society and every day life. With these present in a dream or vision, a milk interpretation may not be safe at all. It is impossible to interpret all dreams reliably from any list of symbolism no matter how comprehensive it may be. The lesson here is that we must be weaned from milk level interpretation and enter into meat level interpretation.
“For every one that useth milk is unskillful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good
and evil” (Heb 5:13-14)
God has not meant for any list of symbolism to replace the teaching and leading of the Holy Spirit. Ultimately, all accurate interpretation come from God! When the interpreter is totally reliant on God he is in trusted meat level interpretation mode.
Gen 40:8
And they said unto him, We have dreamed a dream, and there is no
interpreter of it. And Joseph said unto them, DO NOT INTERPRETATIONS BELONG TO GOD? TELL ME THEM, I PRAY YOU.

I think Dennis’s post is a proper warning of caution to all whom believe they are receiving Gifts from God.
People must seek Jesus and test themselves via His Word. They must find out if they are truly followers of and believe Jesus. Because in the end times there will be great deceivers and many will be given over to deception. And many that are confident in their salvation will say to the Lord upon judgment day.
Matthew 7
21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven. 22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’ 23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’
Not only will these ones be doing signs, but they will believe they are doing it through the power of God and for Jesus.
For me i trust in no signs in these end times. The Rock that we must cling to is His Word.
John 6
63 It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing. The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.
Believe His Words. Read them anew and find out where you stand.

If you have a gift from God you will know it.
Luk 11:11 If a son shall ask bread of any of you that is a father, will he give him a stone? or if [he ask] a fish, will he for a fish give him a serpent? Luk 11:12 Or if he shall ask an egg, will he offer him a scorpion? Luk 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall [your] heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
If you have the Holy Spirit, it comes with a parcel of giftings.

My people do not suppose that the evils you face are to your detriment, but rather consider that they are to the end of fulfilment of My desire for you. And you know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to My purpose. Growth is through trial, and trials reap a harvest of longsuffering patience in Me. My word is sure, holy, unprofaned. Judge not by the outward appearance. And be at peace among yourselves.
Now I exhort you, brethren, warn them that are unruly, comfort the feebleminded, support the weak, be patient toward all men. See that none render evil for evil unto any man; but ever follow that which is good, both among yourselves, and to all men. Rejoice evermore. Pray without ceasing. In everything give thanks: for this is My will concerning you. Quench not the Spirit.
Despise not prophesyings. Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. I sanctify you wholly; that your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto My coming. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it. Every affection of evil is to the end you be saved in fulness.
Consider also that there is no instance in My word where good is overcome of evil. It is so in the history of My people Israel, and you are also My Spiritual Israel. My people, learn the lesson of scripture to the end that you fear not! For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that I am the Son of God? To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the tree of life, which is in the midst of the paradise of God. He that overcometh shall not be hurt of the second death. To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it. And he that overcometh, and keepeth my works unto the end, to him will I give power over the nations.
He that overcometh, the same shall be clothed in white raiment; and I will not blot out his name out of the book of life, but I will confess his name before my Father, and before his angels. He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches. Him that overcometh will I make a pillar in the temple of my God, and he shall go no more out: and I will write upon him the name of my God, and the name of the city of my God, which is new Jerusalem, which cometh down out of heaven from my God: and I will write upon him my new name. To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne. He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. But the fearful, and unbelieving, and abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.

Amen, Marta.
My post was a little tongue in cheek.
And, it can cut both ways: If a person is predicting the future with a God-given-ability, more Power and God-Speed to them.
And, If a person is performing miracles and Wonders by the pow'r of Satan, then let him believe the Gospel, repent and be saved from his sins!
I have great confidence in Shekel, and obviously, he has God-given-abilities and Spiritual Gifts which I cannot even dream of. And Shekel has obviously done a LOT of hard work and study, which I've not done. Shame on me. And a golden Crown for Shekel!
Until yesterday, I hadn't thought about:
Satan can predict the future, and I shared that "thought" on my last post, in case others hadn't thought of it.
Many Christians are like me, with little more than a love for the Good Samaritan, and some Bible-reading. Others, like Shekel, are Spiritual Giants in our eyes.
Dave Hunt has said:
Some "Christian ministers" (such as Benny Hinn) have supernatural power, but the pow'r seems to be from Satan. I'm thinking that Dave is right. But, I'm not enough of a Giant to know my left from my right.
And................we're in the End-Times! Satan cometh, working great Lying Signs and Wonders! The Bible tells me so! Let's be ready for that Deceiver.

footnote: Where in the Bible is "being Slain in the Spirit"? Is that Biblical? Is it of Christ? Is it a magicKal, or fake trick? Is it supernatural? Is it from fallen angels? Benny Hinn does it all the time (I've heard that. I've never seen it. I don't have cable-TV). What does it accomplish? Why have I never been "Slain"? Will the poor be helped if I get Slain? Some say that it is when the Holy Spirit is so heavy on you and doing His work that the body/flesh is too weak to handle it, so down to the floor you go.
Have I ever been slain? Not yet. I go to a church where it happens and some of the most trusted saints I have ever seen have hit the floor under the power of the Holy Spirit. So is it of God? Yes! Do I have any biblical proof? I know that the (human) spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.

I have been slain in the spirit. I NEVER thought it was real. I had seen it on t.v. and thought it was fake. When I got saved I was attending a non-denominational church. They called people up for prayer that wanted a fresh anointing of God. My friend encouraged me to go. So I did. Some that were prayed for before be went down, some did not. The pator got to me and put his hand on my head and started praying for me. I felt this jolt go thru me from the top of my head to the sould of my feet and it made my knees buckle. I thought to myself "no way, I am not going down" as soon as I thought that the power got stronger and I had no choice, down I went. I could not believe it!! When God's power touches you no matter how hard you try you can not fight it.
Another story to add here. After that my son at the time was 5. He asked me about what happened when I 'fell on the floor' I tried to explain it to him best I could. He said "can you do that to me"? I said "no, that is only for preachers" (I was a new christian) he said "can you pray for me and lay your hands on me?" So I did. I felt from my hand the same shock wave that I felt at church when my pastor prayed for me go thru my arm to my hand to my sons head. My son hit the floor. I think God was showing me that it was for everybody. I told my pastor about it and he said to me that he felt the first annointing from God hit me the day he prayed for me and he was about to leave and move on to the next person but God told him to stay with his hands on me. That must have been when I was thinking to myself that I would not go down. Then my pastor said he felt a bigger annointing flowing into me and that must have been when I hit the floor.
Those are my 2 cents for what it's worth.

I think Dennis’s post is a proper warning of caution to all whom believe they are receiving Gifts from God.

[right][snapback]19912[/snapback][/right]
Parcel of gifts?
That to me denotes more than one gift? Please tell me what gifts have you received?
And what are all the gifts?
All Praise The Ancient Of Days

1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit. 1Co 12:5 And there are differences of administrations, but the same Lord. 1Co 12:6 And there are diversities of operations, but it is the same God which worketh all in all. 1Co 12:7 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. 1Co 12:8 For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:9 To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; 1Co 12:10 To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another [divers] kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: 1Co 12:11 But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
It is possible to operate in all of these as the Lord wills.

When the Lord gave me His Spirit I also said, "Lord, I can't be doing that!" (falling down) but I went over like a sack of potatoes and came up a new man in Christ. I have NEVER been the same since, nor do I want to be..old man is dead...

Ditto for me!
I was raised not to believe in being slain in the spirit, or speaking in tongues or really anything of the workings of the Holy Spirit. That was until it happened to me. I thought people were making it up. I thought it was a figment of thier imagination, or they were looking for attention. When I went down, when this lady laid her hands upon me, barely touching me, BAM! it was like someone took my knees out and down I went and I cried like a baby. (Then I got up, looked around hoping no one saw me.

) The same thing happened when I started to speak in tongues. I didn't know anyone that did it or believed in it or understood it. It wasn't discussed in my church. And like I said I didn't believe in it, and it wasn't a gift that I would have asked for. But the day I went forward and stood before the church and said that I received Christ as my personally Savior, (officially), and had several people and the Pastors lay their hands upon me, this was the beginning of my gift. For that whole day and night, I was filled to overflowing with joy, (I've suffered from depression so this was unusual in itself), I kept thanking God and wanting to sing, but I can never recall the songs. All of a sudden this song was in my heart and it was like it had to come out of me but I didn't know how. All of a sudden I just opened my mouth and out came the most beautiful song I've ever heard. I didn't understand a word of it and the notes and tones were so foreign to my tongue. A part of me felt a little silly, but the joyful part of me said just enjoy and go with it. So I did. I may not have known what the words to the song were, but I knew I was singing to God. I was thanking Him and I was telling him how much I loved him. Even now, 7 years later, this still brings tears to me. After this night I did this almost ever night for a week then I began to speak to the Lord , alway as I prayed. I always felt such peace after too. I'd go right to sleep then. After a couple of weeks of this I finally went to my Pastor and asked him about this, (I was wondering if I was going crazy or something.) After he asked me some questions and had me to read the bible about this he then gave me a book that talked alittle bit more about it. For a long time I didin't reveal this to anyone. This was just my prayer language to God. Plus I didn't know anyone in my church who did this. But later then Lord began to place people in my path who did. Again like I said before, I knew nothing about this stuff nor believed in it, that was until the Lord showed me. The same with some of the other gifts like the dreams and visions and things. As we all know, our Lord has a great sense of humor and I think he may really get a kick out of us unbelieving "believers" when he reveals his power and presense!

Talk about humbling!!!! Do I undstand everthing about these gift, No! I've got a lot to learn and will need a whole of teaching when I get to heaven too. I'm not the quickest or brightest desciple the Lord has had that's for sure. But hay, he created me, so he knows what he's got here!
Over all I'd say we've had some discussing here, alot of meat to chew on, I'd say.
Jesus is Lord, (test)

Yeah there are far too many christians saying that they "heard from the spirit" yet they show no evidence of confirmation or testing the spirits.I know of one lady who spoke in tongues regularity when she had someone cast out the demon of false tongues.Even for tongues we are to test the spirits.Satan is a copycat.
Everyone needs to read rebecca brownes books,it delves into stuff that most christians are terrified of,or love to deny but we cant put on the whole armour of God without a deeper understanding.I for one am sick of the milk and cookies churches. Its the same nice nice sermons recycled over and over again. I read her books when I was a young christian and didn't find them very edifying. Also since then, I have come across a few things concerning the author which was definately not edifying for me.
I would suggest to not to believe everything we read. Whether christian or not, we should always check out the background of authors for ourselves and make judgment accordingly. We need to be careful what we feed our spirits on.
(I'm not writing about satanism and demons and so forth. This post concerns authors that are not completely truthful in such things as embellishing stories.

Longtime readers of The Quarterly Journal will recall that Rebecca Brown is really Ruth Bailey, a small-town physician who, after Indiana authorities revoked her license in 1984, traveled to California and began promoting her strange views of the occult and deliverance with the help of Christian tract and comic book publisher, Jack T. Chick. Police reports, medical documents, newspaper articles, and testimony of family and neighbors all verify her confused life and spurious claims.

A few days ago, my neighbor "John" (who has Satellite TV) told me:
I've often watched Benny Hinn on TV. His audience is in 3 groups, large numbers of people. He waves his right hand over the right 1/3 of the audience, and all of those people fall down (except for a few left standing).
He waves his left hand and all of the left 1/3 of the audience goes down (except for a few).
Dave Hunt told this:
Benny waved his hand toward a certain man, and his hair-piece flipped off, to the floor. The audience roared with laughter. The man put his hair back on. Benny waved his hand again, and the hair flipped off again, and the audience laughed again, and the man put his hair on again. This happened 5 times in a row.
Dave said: I don't believe that God supplies this super-natural power. It's another power, an un-holy power. Who was edified by this slap-stick comedy? Who was entertained? Who got saved from his sins?
Dave Hunt said: A woman went to a Benny Hinn Healing Event at a large stadium. The woman had a heart attack, and the Hinn-people took her back-stage. They couldn't heal her (she was actually sick), and they couldn't call an ambulance to a Healing Event (Benny would lose face). They killed time, back-stage, until the woman died. Back-stage.
If I had the ability to do Slain-in-the-Spirit miracles, I could get a large following. BUT! What is the purpose? What does it accomplish? It's not Biblical. No-one in the Bible ever got "Slain in the Spirit".
Unless we're counting Abel, Samson, Saul, Jonathan, Urriah, John the Baptist, Stephen, Annanias and Saphira, Paul, Peter (upside down on a cross), etc
We're looking for a Jesus who brings Life, Everlasting Life, Abundant Life. And the crowds appear to prefer being "Slain".
Slain in the Spirit? It's show-biz, entertainment, Hollywood, hidden, mystic, secret societies and secret practices, un-written, oral teachings, occult, mysticism, Kabbal, Sufi, whirling dervishes, Masonic, Charismatic, sensational, sensual, not-Spiritual, un-Biblical, extra-Biblical, outside the Bible, .
It's the way you get a big following. It's the broad road that leads to death. It's Another Gospel which will not save. It's an ego-trip. It's elitism. It's the big I, and the little u. No-one knows what it is. No-one has ever explained what it does. It's kin to dousing, divination, fortune-telling, psychic, ESP, levitation, ouija, talking to the dead, apparitions,
It's mysticism at it's worst. Nothing is known about it.
It's a side-show at the circus. A novelty.
If Benny has great super-natural power, why doesn't he use his power to help the poor, heal the sick, Teach the Word, solve the world's problems? He could heal all the people in the hospitals. BUT! No! He gets on TV, and Slays everybody in his audience. Real impressive!
Many healing miracles and miraculous apparitions are occurring within many different religions: Catholic, Protestant, Voo-doo, Sai Baba (Hindu), Mormon, Christian Science, Buddhist, Witch doctors, Our Lady of Fatima, etc.
Which of these miracles are of Jesus? , and which are "Another Gospel"?
Where in the Word of God does it tell me to get "Slain in the Spirit"?
Is it a Lying Sign and a Wonder????????
If I'm wrong, tell me.

Dennis,
You obviously didn't see the Dateline or whatever special about Benny Hinn. Very revealing! The guy is a total fake and everything he does in his little magic shows are fake. Don't even give him any air-time Dennis. YUK.
As for slain in the spirit, it has not happened to me and it didn't have too. I did however happen to my mother and her sister in the same church. Now, I know my mother would never make any of this up. I believe this stuff happens more in the Charasmatic type of churches definitely! When I accepted Christ I did so after the service in a conservative Baptist church with a bunch of members from the church.
I liked this that Larry posted from the Bible...wow!

But Dennis, what about these verses:
QUOTE
II CHRONICLES 5:11-14 - And it came to pass, when the priests were come out of the holy [place]: (for all the priests [that were] present were sanctified, [and] did not [then] wait by course: Also the Levites [which were] the singers, all of them of Asaph, of Heman, of Jeduthun, with their sons and their brethren, [being] arrayed in white linen, having cymbals and psalteries and harps, stood at the east end of the altar, and with them an hundred and twenty priests sounding with trumpets:) It came even to pass, as the trumpeters and singers [were] as one, to make one sound to be heard in praising and thanking the LORD; and when they lifted up [their] voice with the trumpets and cymbals and instruments of musick, and praised the LORD, [saying], For [he is] good; for his mercy [endureth] for ever: that [then] the house was filled with a cloud, [even] the house of the LORD; So that the priests could not stand to minister by reason of the cloud: for the glory of the LORD had filled the house of God.
MATTHEW 17:5-7: While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. And when the disciples heard [it], they fell on their face, and were sore afraid. And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
JOHN 18:5-6: They answered him, Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus saith unto them, I am [he]. And Judas also, which betrayed him, stood with them. As soon then as he had said unto them, I am [he], they went backward, and fell to the ground.
ACTS 9:3-4: And as he journeyed, he came near Damascus: and suddenly there shined round about him a light from heaven: And he fell to the earth, and heard a voice saying unto him, Saul, Saul, why persecutest thou me?
Daniel 10:9-10 But the sound of his words came to my ears, and on hearing his voice I went into a deep sleep with my face to the earth. Then a hand gave me a touch, awaking me, and putting me on my knees and my hands.
Rev. 1:17 - And when I saw him, I went down on my face at his feet as one dead. And he put his right hand on me, saying, Have no fear; I am the first and the last and the Living one.
Don't you believe that the Holy Spirit can be soooooooo powerful as to knock someone on the ground? YES! SURE CAN. But there are real accounts and fake accounts......the Spirit also gives you the power to discern what is real and what is fake.

Thanks, Marta
Thanks for your research. You may be right, but I don't know that you're right.
I'm sure that God can do many things.
Things that are baffling.
Before Esau and Jacob were born, God said "I've hated Esau, and I've loved Jacob". I'm still ciphering on that long division! Advanced calculus, obviously! Perhaps, God foreknew the 2 men, and chose accordingly (with no Partiallity).
Rev 1;17 John saw Jesus. John fell at Jesus' feet as if dead. Jesus touched John, and said, "Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last".
This may, OR MAY NOT, be the "Slain in the Spirit". The Bible doesn't say.
There are 6 billion different people in the world; so, God has 6 billion different ways to deal with us. Each person is unique!
Each angel is different!?
Each mountain is different.
Each tree is different and unique.
Each snow-flake is different.
Each grain of sand is unique.
We don't serve a cookie-cutter God!
What works good for you may not work good for me.
Helping the poor and giving Bibles to the Bible-less? That really turns my crank!
Seeing people get 'Slain in the Spirit'? What does it accomplish? Where is it in the Bible? Is it show-biz? Why does God with-hold it from many Christians? Is it God or Satan? Many questions which no-one can answer!
It is mysticism. The Whirling Dervishes are as biblical as the Slain in the Spirit.

When Jesus revealed Himself to Saul of Tarsus (later to be known as the apostle Paul) and his companions, it caused them to fall to the ground:
"About noon, O king, as I was on the road, I saw a light from heaven, brighter than the sun, blazing around me and my companions. We all fell to the ground, and I heard a voice saying to me in Aramaic, 'Saul, Saul, why do you persecute me? It is hard for you to kick against the goads.'" (Acts 26:13-14)
The Bible says that Peter went into a trance when God was about to give him a vision:
"About noon the following day as they were on their journey and approaching the city, Peter went up on the roof to pray. He became hungry and wanted something to eat, and while the meal was being prepared, he fell into a trance. He saw heaven opened and something like a large sheet being let down to earth by its four corners." (Acts 10:9-11)
Peter had fallen into a trance, but what was his physical body doing while he was in this trance? Using modern terminology, perhaps a Christian who knew him would have said that he was "slain in the Spirit," or that he had "fallen out under the power of God" (or something equivalent).
The apostle Paul also fell into a trance when God was about to give him a vision:
"When I [Paul] returned to Jerusalem and was praying at the temple, I fell into a trance and saw the Lord speaking. 'Quick!' he said to me. 'Leave Jerusalem immediately, because they will not accept your testimony about me.'" (Acts 22:17-18)
Paul had fallen into a trance, but what was his physical body doing while he was in this trance? Using modern terminology, perhaps a Christian who knew him would have said that he was "slain in the Spirit," or that he had "fallen out under the power of God" (or something equivalent).
The apostle John said that he was "in the Spirit" when he was given visions of the future, which he wrote down in the book of Revelation:
"On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet" (Revelation 1:10)
What was John's physical body doing while he was "in the Spirit"? Using modern terminology, perhaps a Christian who knew him would have said that he was "slain in the Spirit," or that he had "fallen out under the power of God" (or something equivalent).
The apostle Paul was "caught up to the third heaven," and he didn't know if it was with or without his physical body:
"I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven. Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know--God knows. And I know that this man--whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows--was caught up to paradise. He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell. ... To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me." (2 Corinthians 12:2-4, 7)
Based on 2 Corinthians 12:7 (above), Bible teachers tend to believe that it was Paul himself who had been caught up to the third heaven. If Paul was not physically caught up into heaven then what was his body doing while he was experiencing heaven? Using modern terminology, perhaps a Christian who knew him would have said that he was "slain in the Spirit," or that he had "fallen out under the power of God" (or something equivalent).
Modern Christians who do not believe in being "slain in the Spirit" often say that the above Scripture passages are not meant to be normal experiences for Christians. But the point is that the frail human body can react by falling over or "going into a trance" or "going into a deep sleep" when the glory and majesty and power of God are manifested in some way. When the power of the Holy Spirit touches people who are standing up while receiving prayer, sometimes they fall to the ground. It would be out of balance to say that this should happen every time someone receives prayer, because it doesn't appear to have happened very often in the New Testament. But it would also be out of balance to say that this should never happen, because the above passages show that people can experience physical reactions at the manifested glory and power of God.

I have never been to a Benny Hinn crusade, but I note that he only brings a select few forward to the podium. I note that people are healed in the congregation. Then he only pours more on when they come up, with the caveat that only a few are allowed to come up. I tend to believe the power is real and all that. I was in a Rodney Howard Browne crusade once here in Edmonton, and I felt the power, no question. But have you ever noticed how pretty much all the "healings" are the kind of thing that is not openly apparent to all? A tumour or something...I never saw a lame man leap. Only once I saw the healing of a deaf girl. That was real, and it was in Henry Hinn's church in Vancouver. Henry is Benny's brother... Very moving, special and powerful. The look of awe on her face to hear for the first time was indescribable! I was really done in by that documentary too...it showed (revealed and scandalized) how that ministry blatently uses donations for great luxurious living. I would not step into his room my self since seeing that.
With Benny, I am unsure, but my pastor was in Calgary when Benny Hinn was there months ago, and he says it is real.
On being slain in the Spirit, it is real too. But I have heard of people being pushed (have saw Henry Hinn do that) and I have heard where people sometimes do a "CD" (courtesy drop) That is reprehensible....
But I know it flows and you just collapse. I am filled with the Spirit, so when another anointed one touches me, I do not get the same "charge" I did the first time, because I am already filled and so the potential difference between that man who lays hands on me and myself seems to be nearly equal.. i just kind of stagger most times if that anointing is present...I compare it in that way to an electrical voltage...you can feel it flow and it makes a static shock in the recipient.

Here is a scripture for thought on being 'slain in the spirit'.
Mark 9:26 Jesus was casting out a spirit and half way thru the vers it says: You Dumb and deaf spirit, I command you, come out of him and never enter him again." And after crying out and convulsing him terribly, it came out and the boy was like a corpse (slain in the spirit?) so that most of them said, "he is dead" (slain in the spirit?) But Jesus took him by the hand and lifted him up, and he arose.

QUOTE(lovingHIM @ Oct 29 2005, 06:07 PM)

Thanks, LovingHim.
Paul, Peter, and John were Apostles. I'm not an Apostle (as far as I know). Does that make a difference? I don't know. I'm here to learn, worship, teach, fuss, and test Shekel's patience.
The Bible says that I'm a priest; But, it doesn't say that I'm an Apostle.
The Bible says that:
I'm raised to new Life, born from Above, Baptized in the Spirit, raised from a watery grave (water baptism), quickened, living, indwelt by the Spirit, taught by the Comforter,
Rivers of Living Waters flow from within me. I'll never Thirst again, after drinking from that Rock.
We are lively stones, assembled together and built by God, into a Living Temple, the Body and the Habitation of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Our Lord was Slain. But, are we to be Slain?
Years ago, my cousin told me: "I was 'Slain in the Spirit'. I was conscious of everything that was occurring around me, but I was not able to move. Later, I was able to get up." That's all she said. No tremendous revelations. No edification. No encouragement. No healing. No nothing, except paralysis.
Like I said before, it seems to be a side show in the circus.

Thanks, Who,
The Bible commands us to "Be filled with the Spirit".
But. The Bible never tells us to "Be baptized with the Spirit".
I'm thinking:
The Baptism of the Holy Spirit is a one-time event. And every Christian is automatically "Baptized in the Spirit" at conversion, whether he knows it or not.
Being "filled with the Spirit" is a re-curring event. How do I get "filled with the Spirit"? Fill myself with the Word of God, obey the instructions within the Bible, ask God to fill me with the Spirit, ........and God will do the rest.
I don't feel any "electrical charge". I obey the commandments and the instructions of Christ by Faith, whether I feel anything or not. We live by Faith.
We believe the Word, therefore we live by the Word. Abraham looked for a City-not-made-by-human-hands, and (in this Pilgrimage) he never found it. He walked by Faith.
Paul was the greatest Apostle; yet he said, "I'm afraid that, after preaching to others, I myself might be a castaway".
Paul said, "Work out your own salvation with fear and trembling".
Where are today's Christians who talk like Paul talked? We can't find them.
If I seek Feelings, Signs, and Wonders, and neglect faith, will Jesus be pleased with me?
I'll tell you where the 'feelings' are. When I work hard at helping the poor and sending out the Gospel and I'm tired at the end-of-the-day, I feel somewhat "OK" within my conscience. I'm not conscience-stricken after I've been zealous to do the "good works" of Christ.
It's a good feeling.

You should exercise caution with what you pull off the web and how you judge .Not everything christian is edifying, not everything christian is cozy, the fact of the matter is unless you understand the occult you cant completely understand her books and sadly there are too many christians who are too chicken to touch these issues because it takes them out of their cooshie pew. My great grandfather was a shaman and I can assure you her books are authentic, she knows what she is talking about.People wonder why christians have so many problems afflictions ect..its because most know squat about spiritual warfare. I am so sick of christians saying the "the devil doesnt bug me and I dont bug the devil" crap, thats because the devil doesnt bother with what he already owns.Untill christians get their heads out of their rear ends and be willing to see what the old devil is up to and be willing to fight him face to face if need be then christians will continue to be sick, depressed and downtrodden. We have the authority to call on warring angels and I have done just that on more than one occasion.

Elaine says she was born with a cleft palate that required surgical repair. Her family could not afford the cost of surgery. Then, Elaine says, a friend told her mother the work could be done in exchange for nothing more than a thimbleful of Elaine's blood. The blood would be for experimental use, Elaine says her mother was told. However, Elaine says, the blood was used in a ceremony in which she was sold to Satan.
Elaine goes on to tell of events that led her to further involvement in witchcraft and satanism. She describes her rise to power into satanism after being inducted into Satan's service at a witch camp. There she signed her name in blood and set out to climb the ladder of power in witchcraft. She tells of growing more powerful until, at a national competition of witches, she surpassed all her colleagues and was named top witch.
"A crown of gold was placed upon my head and my fellow cult members bowed down and gave homage to me," she says. "I was treated like a queen ... There were parties and I always had a handsome escort who was also my body guard ... My escort always tasted all of my food before I ate to make sure that it wasn't poisoned." (3)
That wasn't all, Elaine says. She married Satan himself, who donned a white tuxedo and rented a Presbyterian church for the ceremony. After saying their vows, the newlyweds were whisked off by limousine to the airport and Satan's luxurious private jet, Elaine says. On their way to their "haunted honeymoon" at a mansion in California, Satan sipped "very expensive wines and champagnes." (4)
Elaine says she became "Satan's representative on an international level" going around the world to meet with heads of state and foreign dignitaries to negotiate the sale of arms. She was possessed by a demon named "Mann-Chan" and spoke foreign languages fluently, she says. (5)
Elaine links the Roman Catholic Pope into the worldwide occult network she says she headed. "The Pope knew very well who I was. We worked closely both with the Catholics -- especially the Jesuits -- and the high-ranking Masons." (6)

Let me remind again that I said I have problems with the AUTHOR and how she embellished a few things.
I do understand what goes on in occult worship and so forth. I am talking about this author and these particular books.
I'm sorry that you misunderstood.

I read her books when I was a young christian and didn't find them very edifying. Also since then, I have come across a few things concerning the author which was definately not edifying for me.

The author of this web site is lying.
I suppose you believe the claims that Billy graham is a 33rd degree mason.

Dousing is a form of divination. I know 2 men in my County whose Dad or Grand-Dad was a water-Douser. I've read several articles about dousing. It works well for many people. The Soviets found that most people could learn to douse. But, the OT and the NT forbids us to do divination. Divination is the obtaining of info from the (evil) spirit-world.
My point is:
Ask any Douser, "How does Dousing work?". They never give a credible, accurate answer. They say, "I don't know", or "The moisture in the willow twig is attracted to the water in the soil", or "The water in the soil has a magnetic attraction to the moisture in the tree branch". Or other nonsense.
NOT-A-ONE will admit the Truth: That Dousing is Divination. Divination is the obtaining of info from intelligent persons (fallen angels) in the spirit-world.
Why do we lie about it? If we admit that the spirit-world does exist, we are forced to contemplate the possible existance of a Righteous Judge Who will judge us for our every idle word.
AND.................
Being Slain-in-the-Spirit reminds me of Dousing. Being Slain is never explained, is not understood, we don't know the source of it, we don't know what it does, the Bible doesn't mention it, it's obviously super-natural (sometimes).
The way Benny Hinn does it, it looks like a side-show/roller-coaster-ride at the circus.
A curiosity/novelty.
Uri Gellar is a famous Israeli who was on television years ago, bending spoons with his thoughts. At the time of the broadcast, the TV Station received many phone calls from frantic parents, "My child is bending spoons in our kitchen by just thinking about it!".
Uri learned to Douse for water with no instrument at all. He held his arms out horizontally, palms down. When he was over water, he felt pressure pushing his palms up.
Benny (and others) have super-natural power from the (evil) spirit-world.
If an un-saved person goes to a Benny-circus, and he gets "Slain", he might get the idea that "I'm OK with the Lord. See, I fell down in the Spirit when Benny waved his hand.".

This is the first time l've read this string....?
I'm glad...but l'll add my two cents worth since l've been there done that and it wasn't pretty.
Signs and wonders were evident during my walk in new age as well. When l said yes to trying to make Jesus my Lord the signs and wonders increased.
This is what l've come to think and have to believe it's so or scripture's lying.
I asked for bread...he didn't give me a stone. I believe a great war went on at that time. I was truly saved as a child of about 8 with a supernatural encounter with God that changed me. But l was in a desert. No teaching or understanding what so ever.
I know that l know that l know through the 60's and astrology...meditations in pyramids, tossing coins, spinning compasses out of the body experience's that God was protecting me and fighting on my behalf. I couldn't fight. I knew nothing...I was a pawn.
Even as l was unknowingly being schooled in the things of darkness God was there.
Dennis l could look ahead in the stars but didn't like it. I felt the
moment was to profound to look ahead. And besides...it was totally over whelming.
Honestly when l came to the Lord l wanted it all to stop. I was satisfied to make crafts for the retarded....and feed the hungry....
But God's revealing HIMSELF to me...He's teaching me a bite at a time who's Lord.
As far as being slain the spirit l think it's a mixed bag.
I think you should be careful what you say about ministries Christ hasn't pulled down. If he hasn't done it it is for good reason and you should follow his lead.
Dennis...this is what l've found. Signs and wonders follow those that believe
and not until. Astrology made me believe. The numbers...the facts...
See l had to believe period. I had to believe there was a real enemy and l just might be in his grasp...I couldn't believe there was a real enemy if what was happening wasn't real..God let me see that it was real.
God was precious to me in the beginning...He took care of me. Even when l saw the bush burning and put it out he stayed.
It's been hard and l wanted to do so much to serve him. Nobody had to make me or preach me into it. It was a burning fire.
God plucked my mentor right out of sleepy little community and put her square in my path. I drank and drank and drank.
I'm not the same...I'm tired. I don't want to do this anymore...
But l will anyway. I'm just feeling sorry for myself
Traveller, as far as dreams...God has revealed in time. I haven't had to sort of grow and learn symbolism and all that stuff because God just opens my mind. He just shows me a little bit as l need. I've never tried to conjure up an interpretation because it's a tempting labyrinth. I've had enough of feeling around in the darkness for answers. If God flips the switch then fine.
Warrior princess...thanks for being bold to share. Remember...God is in control.
Dennis l always thought the reason dowsing worked was because they used a piece of willow and in it's dry state it is drawn to moisture. Some people were just paying more attention to there hands. I'd never heard it was a mysterious power just a thirsty willow
Anyway...just a last note...
It's really hard to believe. People think they believe but they don't. I was such a doubting Thomasina God gave me a long leash to see and know....i wish everything was easy again...
Pouring yourself out before God changes things.

I think Dennis’s post is a proper warning of caution to all whom believe they are receiving Gifts from God.

[right][snapback]19912[/snapback][/right]
Parcel of gifts?
That to me denotes more than one gift? Please tell me what gifts have you received?
And what are all the gifts?
All Praise The Ancient Of Days
[right][snapback]19924[/snapback][/right]
1Co 12:4 Now there are diversities of gifts, but the same Spirit.

That scriptures says to me that each individual is given a particular gift. Not a parcel.

E.T.'s (space-men), UFO's, Dousing, super-natural Healings, divination, ouija, levitation, speaking in tongues, Slain-in-the-Spirit, whirling dervishes, etc
All of the above (except when it's sleight-of-hand) are obviously super-natural.
How can I KNOW that a specific event is from God, or it's from Satan?
Daniel fasted, prayed, and WAITED for 3 weeks to get an answer from God.
On the road to Damascas, Paul didn't call Jesus down from Heaven; Jesus ambushed Paul.
On the road to Emmaus, the 2 disciples didn't call Jesus to them; Jesus took the initiative.
In Rev Chapter 1, John didn't have a TECHNIQUE to draw Jesus to John; Jesus came to John, whether John wanted the visit OR NOT.
Where in the NT did the Apostles NAME IT AND CLAIM IT? They humbly REQUESTED toward God that He do thus and so. And the Apostles prayed the Word of God back to God. Coals to Newcastle!
In the NT, the Apostles never waved their hand to "Slay" the Church that met at Dorcas's house.
Paul's "Power" was in the 'foolishness' of preaching the Word of our Lord Jesus Christ.
When Paul was attacked by his enemies, did Paul just wave his hand toward them, and "Slay" them in their tracks? No! Paul fled from hi
