.........Who God Is.

I'm noticing an overwhelming trend within today's culture to equate the mind of God with how "we feel" about Who He Is. Many will say:

"I felt like......therefore, it must be of God"!

When in fact, this is the total opposite of how we should be seeking our God/Our Father. If we are basing Who God is, and what He desires, by our own feelings, we will be mislead everytime....even unto death! See Proverbs below.

Example in point:

Do you think Moses was feeling "thrilled" about approaching Pharoah, or even going back to Egypt, for that matter?

How about Jonah?

Abraham, having to just pick up and leave everything he knew, much less, not even being given clear instruction as to what his final destination was going to be?

These callings and moments were "inspired" but "comfortable", I doubt it. I'm positive that they didn't feel good about them.

How about Elijah, going up against Ahab and Jezebel? He was not happy, to say the least!

Here's the bottom line with regard to God. We cannot KNOW HIM, without His Words. And if we claim that we do, we are worshipping a "god of our own imaginations". That is why "in the beginning was the Word"! That is why His Name Is The Word! (Rev. 19:13)

To think that we can know what God desires without His Word, is folly and nothing more than humanism.

Isaiah 55:8 "For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways," says the Lord.

Proverbs 14:12 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Proverbs 16:25 There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.

Romans 10:2 For I bear them witness that they have a zeal for God, but not according to knowledge.

Which God/god do you know?

Another note I might add, which I stated on another thread.

God IS love.........

But

Love is not necessarily God.

In other words, we don't define what is loving, only God does. He is the one who defines love. Many times we do things thinking we are "being loving", when in fact, we are enabling something bad, that needs to be addressed with God's Truth.

(Speak the Truth in love. Ephesians 4:25)

Suzanne,

Good insight. Sometimes outside influences/stimuli can influence our feelings and emotions which sometimes come into direct conflict with Gods words. So many believe that if something feels good, than do it. But I would suggest that sometimes our feelings are not truthful with us and in such cases we must turn to Scriptures in learning what Gods thoughts are.

Gods Blessings,

The Word of God must be the framework of our faith, or we're just making Him up as we go, to match who we want Him to be. He was in the beginning, and He has given us His Word from the beginning. That is why it is so important tp understand Who God Is, through His Word, rather than our imaginations.

We should also remember that "we do not define God", but rather as Christians, "God defines us!"

Let us remember the commandments of God rather than the traditions and philosophies of men.

Mark 7:6 He replied, "Isaiah was right when he prophesied about you hypocrites; as it is written: "'These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. 7 They worship me in vain; their teachings are but rules taught by men.' 8 You have let go of the commands of God and are holding on to the traditions of men." 9 And he said to them: "You have a fine way of setting aside the commands of God in order to observe your own traditions!
