--Elijah here:

What does one call a miracle?
A number of years ago before I even surrendered my life to Christ, I had a [number of things] happen in my life that caused me to wonder about things? I had been brought up in a 'real' Christian home, a strange one for me as I recall. Mom was from a 13 child poor uneducated family, and dad was from a 4 child rich family. Only dad went to college and became a school supt. Unequally yoked together? Well, both were devote Christian's, yet this did leave me with some real drawbacks in both directions. And when I became of age, I did my thing. By that, I mean that there was no reason for God to keep me around, except for my parents & family's prayers. I had been locked up, shot at, in fact, while in jail one time, the police came in to view Judge Hammonds kin! This goes way back 35+ years ago, before I became a Christian. And some folks it seems cannot see a real miracle in a extremely wasted life that was about as worthless as any, unless they 'see' both sides of the coin! I might just add that there was not much that I had not done or tried. How a change came about where any person goes from excessivly sinful to even caring about being clean, is a miracle in itself. Drinking was gone, smoking was gone, swearing was gone, a [new heart & motive] took over immediately, at the time of future full surrender! But first: Well before that time came. My friend was home from the service on leave, he and another army friend met me out at the dance hall. He had been away for quite some time & we were celebrating. (huh?) You know, having what we called real fun. After we closed the bar, we were all very much oiled, if you know what I mean? (nearly drunk) We were going to go get some grub at an all night restaurant. We came on out on a good straight blacktop state maintained road. This was taken by us for about 4 miles to another good road that turned both left & right, (DEAD END) after the stop was completed. We were doing our thing, you know, around 75 or 80 upon approachment? John was driving his fathers brand new mercury that did not even have the 2000 mile check up yet. Towards the end of the road we approached a slight hill & then the stop sign. There were no guard rail on the other side. & there was a deep ravine down toward the river. The only thing there, was a 6" concrete curb. We were all over the edge with the serpents stuff, I was the most recently familiar with the road & I told John that he had better slow this thing down, but you know how our reactions are, huh? au, yea, i is know what i is doooin. What happened was surely a miracle, that the three of us were not worthy of!!! Yes, sure one or two things might be just a quintessence, but with this thing it would take at least three things taking place in seconds! And with no misses or near misses. Remember, it was only the prayers of the righteous that brought this worthless one through this! And one more thought, if God can save you, there is nothing that He will not do to get the job done, if it can be done!? OK: We came upon [nothing], doing around 65 or 70 miles an hour by then! John slammed on the brakes, so what??? What good does that do? We had a 90 degree turn either to the left or to the right while doing that speed!Well, it happen so fast that the only way to understand it was to check [when it was over!] How many times we spun around, only the angel that God sent to answer the faithful ones prayers knows? But, I would say that he was just taking his finger to steer or push the car as he was told. What next? Both front tires left their rims. He could have just stopped it in its tracks, huh? Buy what would I had come up with, if that had happened that way?? Or maybe there might have been an oncoming truck in front of us? As I stated before, there was only a 6" curb in front of us. Now comes the miracle, the front tires rolled completely off the rims as stated! Still the car was higher than the 6" curb without tires! And the car needed to hit the curb head on at a perpendicular angel to keep from rolling over & going down into the river gully. Either off direction way would most likely have let it roll over. Anyway, that is the way that the angel did it! That was another required number two miracle! Then the number three miracle! Even with the tires removed the car needed to come on down several inches to meet the curb. The rear end of the car was raised because of the previous miracles, braking applied plus SOME HELP?? The front bumper was so low that it caught the curb full force and drove the bumper all the way back to the axle. We came to a dead stop! When we got out safely.. but very bruised up, we saw where the curb, from about a foot or so back into the road had approximately an 1" crack running past both sides of the car parallel to the curb. Did that do the trick for me?? No, I was not even yet, ready to say yes Lord, at that point. There is more perhaps at a later time, if one is not too bored? But no one can ever convince me that, that was not an answered miracle prayer because of real Christians! (My parents) And not only that, but there were two more that were no more worthy of being salvaged at the time than I was.

An amazing testimony! Thank you for sharing

Elijah674,

It's funny...when God does a miracle for us we go through all the mental hoops to prove it to ourselves.
I've had a couple of car miracles too.

E674, l would also add the Holy Spirit is constantly making intercession for us. If there's nobody else for us.. Jesus himself steps in.

I don't know of one person that prayed for me. I didn't know one real Christian before l was drawn into his arms...Jesus came looking for his lost sheep and l heard his call. So any reading this that think no one is praying for you..Take heart...for the Lord hears the unspoken cry of your heart.

God has done many miracles involving my family and I, but the one that I share at Women's Retreats, is this one: just because it's the most unusual. I shared this last June, so if you have already read it, you might want to just skip over it.

Ten years ago this month, I sent my fourteen-year-old daughter to Seattle for the summer, to help her older sister care for her toddler and four-month-old baby. I had to work full-time and didn't want to leave a young teenager unsupervised, since her brother had started a full-time job.

Two weeks had gone by, and on Sunday morning, I woke up around five oclock, and for some reason... got on my knees and started to pray for all of my kids. Now, I have always prayed for my kids, every single day, but this was different. I usually waited for the alarm to go off, somewhere around seven, and then I got ready for church. I have always prayed silently and sometimes, even while I was driving. Busy people are very good at these "drive-by" prayers.

As a child, I had watched my grandma pray on her knees, at the side of her bed, but because my family had never practiced praying this way, I had forgotten about it. Until this day. I told The Lord of all the dreams and hopes that I had for my kids' lives, I told of all of the fears I had for their safety, and I asked Him for good health and safety for all of them. I don't know how long I was on my knees, but it seemed like hours.

That afternoon, my eldest daughter called and told me what had just happened.
They had all gone to church that morning, stopped to eat lunch afterwards, picked up a movie from the video store, went home and put the babies down for a nap. My son-in-law went to work and the girls watched their movie.

About thirty minutes into the movie, the oldest suddenly remembered that she had left her curling iron on in the bathroom and went to check on it. While walking down the hallway, she heard a squeak as she passed her bedroom door where she had put the baby down for a nap. She opened the door and found that the baby was gone!!! No longer laying on top of the bed where her mother had left her!!! The baby had never rolled over before until now, and had slid off the bed, becoming lodged between the bed table and the mattress. She was blue, not breathing, limp as a rag doll and her eyes were half opened.

Her mom was hysterical, and was screaming, "MY BABY'S DEAD"... "OH MY GOD! SOMEBODY HELP ME!!" In her hysteria and grief she had forgotten how to do CPR, forgetten her address and phone number, and was of no help as her younger sister called 911. Little sis ran around, panicked as she looked for something with an address on it. She didn't even know what street her sister lived on!
Fortunately, the call was traced and sirens were heard seconds later.

The living room window was facing the apartment's parking lot, and as several fire trucks and an ambulance roared in... with screaming sirens, and red lights flashing... baby Mattie threw her arms out, took a huge breath, and started to cry! Nobody knows how long that baby had gone with out breathing! Paramedics did some kind of a test on her for brain damage, and found that she had none!

Now somebody, told my daughter to get up and check her curling iron.
And somebody, told that baby that the footsteps in the hallway were her only chance of living out her life here on earth, and prompted her to use the last, tiny bit of air in her lungs, to "squeek" for help.
And somebody, early that morning, as the sun was rising over the Sierra Nevada Mountains, sent her grandma, who was 800 miles away, to "the foot of God's throne" to pray for her safety.

That somebody was Jesus, and I could write an entire book of all the miracles he's done for us. Thank you, Jesus. I can't wait to see your face, so I can formally thank you in person!

I read it before but it was worth reading again..Praise God for his mercies!!

I'd been working with a family through the Outreach in town. The woman didn't have use of her legs from an auto accident as a teen. The son...the same age as my son, was having all kinds of problems. I'd had such burden to pray for the family for a couple of years. One evening l'd fallen asleep on the chair. I woke up and was lead to pray for this young man..mostly in tears with a burden hard to explain.

A couple of weeks later l found out that on that very night and hour he had been in an auto accident,,thrown from the car and broken his neck...He didn't want to be doomed to follow in his mother footsteps and had the where- with -all to wrap his leather jacket around his neck to imobolize it. He had to ware a halo for quite sometime...It sure kept him out of trouble...We always wonder about what our prayers do...

It is hard to explain and you can't ignore it. What I wonder is....why the death of others were not intervened, and the only thing I can think of, is that it was their appointed time to go. I guess that in Maddy's case, it was not her time.

'The prayers of the rightous availeth much' Time to go?? Here is another day following the last post of mine that lets us see what prayer can & will do. Surely we always ask that the Lords 'will' be done. Elijah.

Elijah here:
If one can be salvaged, the Godhead will do every thing needed to get the job done. Again the seed was sown. I had been going to Sunday school as long as I could remember. My mom was the Superintendent & even taught the Federated church Sunday school class. Dad was not a church going Christian at that early time period.

Back to my days of foolish 'thunder'. The last wreck was followed by yet another. Again three front seat 'jerks' all oiled up with the serpents 'stuff' of Prov. 23:29-35 counterfeit 'wine' of God.

We were again at the same dance hall to wee hours in the morning. The place closed around 2 and we left shortly after. Bill, Don, and myself. We went through Coloma (Mi.) towards Watervliet on U.S. highway 12. The hwy. was nice and straight, and were in Bill newer Chevrolet. The three of us were over the hill. Bill was driving in the 80's, Don was setting in the middle, and I was on the outside with my door locked. (why is a good question? and no one was wearing seat belts)

What followed still did not do the trick for me to surrender my foolish worthless life to Christ?? I look back at wonder how close David, and even Saul (Paul) came to committing the unpardonable sin of Matt. 12:31-33? No, I was no more Born again than were these, yet it was they.. James, John, David, Saul, who were seen in Luke 12:47-48 somewhat at least, perhaps?? (and I am talking of seed sown & presumption only. Psalm 19:13)

But back to the devils presumption of Psalm 19:13. We were entering the small town called Watervliet, it had only one red light. And the light was red, and doing 80 miles an hour or so there was no major thinking of slowing down. Just pass the light the road curved a little, but to much to stay on the road at this speed. Just ahead a few hundred feet a cemetery was on the left & a hill on the right.

Now what Lord?? The devil was having his way so far with these three presumptuous idiot's. But, when looking back in time today? .. I see the ones of Rev. 17:5 even being way more stupid! They are prepared even for the 'second death' of Obadiah 1:16. And their presumption is that of known unrepentant false doctrines that they will truly die for and in.

Again back to the ones that the Godhead heard and answered the prayers of my mother & father. And this was never understood as such at that time.
Anyway, there was no stopping the car to make the slight curve. Bill hit the brakes surely, and how many times the car spun around I have no idea of? And rolled over?? Again, only could anyone know these thing after the fact. The car was forced up against the hill with such force that there were no unbroken windows on my side of the car or the front or back. Again, none of us had on a seat belt, yet my door was still locked, the back door was open & looked like an crushed accordion. The total car also looked the same way, with it being upside down and from the roof that was beneath us to the floor which was above us was around 6 feet. We were crammed together like a can of sardines. The windshield was like a full view storm door that was opened. This we walked out through.

When the police came, they could not believe that all three of us were without hardly a scratch. Even mostly sober. They said something that I would never forget! It is a 'miracle' that anyone came out of that car alive. And they had been wittness to many a wreck. And what is interesting is that it happened across from the place where all were in their graves.

Did this do the trick yet? No, I still did not even start to do what needed to be done. But, I was doing some serious thinking. What came next still was a few years away. But, do not ever believe that the 'seed' sown, or the prayers of the righteous, will 'ever' come up short of the Lord answering them, if they can be answered.
