There has been much controversy over this idea of "Lordship Salvation" after John MacArthur wrote his book, "The Gospel According to Jesus". I have not read it yet, but I do plan to read it. And, I'm still confused on which one is "right", so I wanted to see everybody's opinions on it, with the provision of Scripture, and I, hopefully, will be able to get out of the smoke and into one side or the other. I wish I could say more than, "Discuss," but... Discuss.

Sorry if this is the wrong place, I don't really know where to put it.

MCARTHUR is a CALVINIST.............don't believe a word that he says..........

believe the Bible

the Phillipian jailor asked "how must i do to be saved?"
Act 16:30 And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved?
Act 16:31 And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house.
Act 16:32 And they spake unto him the word of the Lord, and to all that were in his house.
Act 16:33 And he took them the same hour of the night, and washed their stripes; and was baptized, he and all his, straightway.
Act 16:34 And when he had brought them into his house, he set meat before them, and rejoiced, believing in God with all his house.

notice,,,,,,,it says believe on the Lord Jesus Christ............jesus is BOTH lord and christ

He is LORD,,,,,,,,,,HE MUST be obeyed, because He is LORD

He is CHrist............the Messiah...........God

He is Jesus.........his human name............He is man

so, if we want to be saved,,,,,,,,,we must
1. obey the LORD
2. believe in Jesus as MESSIAH/GOD and man
3. there is no other name by which we must be saved............Jesus is the Name.

belief without obedience .........is not salvation from sin

Jas 2:26 For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

faith without works is dead.
faith with works is living

works are not the purchase price of our salvation

the wages of sin is DEATH............so, Christ's DEATH is the purchase price of our salvation.

don't trust in works............but, we're not saved if we have no works

McArthur is a calvinist, but nevertheless, he is a very solid biblical preacher. I on the otherhand am NOT a Calvinist, but it doesn't change the fact that he is a solid preacher. Either way, Calvinist or Arminian(is that the other name?) they both come to the same conclusion........a saved person will behave as a saved person or else will not endure to the end and will show (true color).

Oh, and by the way, I DO agree with your above post! smile.gif

Kiva, there is no need to take sides. The truth is far more profound than what can be summed up in a doctrinal position put forth by man. At times God seems to act according to something Calvin would agree with, and at other times...not. There is no hard and fast rule where God's dealings with man is concerned. God does different things with different people. We are even exhorted to be different with different people. This is according to wisdom. Of course, that is quite lacking in our time.

Jude 1:21 Keep yourselves in the love of God, looking for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ unto eternal life.
22 And of some have compassion, MAKING A DIFFERENCE ("diakrino"):
23 And others save with fear, pulling them out of the fire; hating even the garment spotted by the flesh.

Thanks for your posts guys, it's cleared up a lot for me. And, I've been praying for persecution of Christianity in America recently, so that it wouldn't be, "You have good fruits, so you're Christian. You have bad fruits/no fruits, you're not a real Christian," but the persecution will weed out the Christians from the non-Christians.

And, I'm not trusting in works. I believe that the ONLY way to be saved is through grace alone from God, through His Son, Jesus Christ, our Lord. But I had many conflicts on whether or not he or she was a Christian, because some bore no fruit, but some with many. But, I think now, it's so much better to focus on the big picture, and not for me to say who's Christian and who's not, and just wait until Heaven, whether or not we will see them.
