The Middle East is the primary focus of the Bible prophets. The visions are limited in scope, definition, and geographical position. There is a current balancing act for spheres of influence being played out by the outer nations of the Middle East proper which is outside of this scope at the present time. Much activity has take place with regard to geopolitical movements and other related conditions over the past 2,000 + years on the earth which is not included in the scope of visions. Various interpretations of Bible prophecy have been and are presented with the attempt to place historical and current events in the scope, but they are not really there. This kind of speculation has created various off course ideas about the unfulfilled portions of the visions which are still pending and these things will not take place on the earth until the Lord starts the end time process.
He will gather all nations into the vortex of the Middle East conflict and ultimately dis-mantel all national governments in the process, and will ultimately rule the earth Himself from Jerusalem. He uses ancient symbols and definitions in the prophetic scriptures which He has conveyed through the Bible prophets. The Lord is the spirit of all Bible prophecy. Current events in the Middle East and world are not in the scope of the visions, but the stage is being set for the beginning of the time of the end of this current age. Once He begins the end time process all of the events and related in the scope of the unfulfilled portion of the visions will play out exactly as they are written. The challenge for the student of Bible prophecy is to understand the scope, the limitations, and the definitions.
The Land of Magog and his brothers in Ezekiel 38 is used to define the initial land areas where some of the post flood inhabitants of the Middle East settled and this definition is also used and is the same for the time of the end of this present age. This is a "land area".... not a specific nation or country like Russia which is much further north and outside of the Middle East. Magog's descendants did migrate out of the Middle East to many locations on the globe, but the Lord is directing the reader's attention to the original land locations in the vision. Today's inhabitants there are still of the same stock and mixed with other Middle Eastern indigenous peoples. So the Lord is using the early post flood geographical vectors in the visions for pin pointing the location of Israel's invaders at the time of the end of this present age.
No one knows when the Lord will trigger His end time events that He has foretold in scripture so we could be very close to the beginning of His coming judgment, or we could be years away. Many things can take place before the drama kicks in and what does take place before will not deter the Lord's objectives, but will only further set the stage for His coming intervention. It is best to learn and stick with the prophetic scriptures without manipulating them to fit pre-conceived ideas from tradition and or from current events. They tell what they tell and must be adhered to if one wants to understand what will take place at the time of the end of this present age.
The vectors of end time direction in the visions are all centered and point to Jerusalem. From the north, east, and south of this location. One must understand this when studying the prophet's views. All of them are focused upon the Middle East proper with Israel at the vortex. Daniel, Ezekiel, and Zechariah are the visions which have the most direct and graphic picture of the location vectors. If we are close to the beginning of the time of the end it will most likely be today's adherents of Islam inhabiting the Middle East who will produce the little horn and the 10 other kings of Daniel and Revelation. All of the outer nations will fall victim to these who will attempt to conquer and rule the earth. Both the western nations, Europe, Russia, and the far east will be at risk and nothing will stop Satan's conquering through his angelic and human agents when he comes to the earth and launches his ambitions to prevent the Lord's coming millennial kingdom on the earth .... except the Lord Himself who will allow Satan's rant for His own purposes, and He will then destroy Satan and his followers in the process.
