The solar system as we know it is a bit more crowded due to the recent discovery of an intriguing new "minor planet."

The object, dubbed 2006 SQ372, is a kind of tailless comet that's currently some two billion miles (three billion kilometers) from Earth, a bit closer to the sun than Neptune.

How will this "minor planet" play a role in the solar system?

I don't know why they would call that a minor planet, it is just a big chunk of ice that came from the cloud of rocks and ice. What it does signify is something is starting to 'pull' the rocks out of the cloud they are in and causing them to go in erratic orbits.
