Thou MUST NOT take other humans as thy slaves, nor MUST thou sell other humans into slavery. Thou MUST NOT take away the freedom of other humans and treat them as thine property.

Nowhere, imo.
His Glory is a Rainbow
The new covenant says love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, soul, strength and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.

This covers it, I think. Unless you would want to be a slave, don't enslave others....

This is why John Newton gave up being a slave trader and wrote the song "Amazing Grace"

Also, check out the following scriptures:

1 Now when he saw the crowds, he went up on a mountainside and sat down. His disciples came to him, 2 and he began to teach them, saying:

3 "Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 4 Blessed are those who mourn, for they will be comforted. 5 Blessed are the meek, for they will inherit the earth. 6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled. 7 Blessed are the merciful, for they will be shown mercy. 8 Blessed are the pure in heart, for they will see God. 9 Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called sons of God. 10 Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven. 11 "Blessed are you when people insult you, persecute you and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of me. 12 Rejoice and be glad, because great is your reward in heaven, for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

There is ETERNAL reward for those Christians who are persecuted for their faith.

If you will stop looking at things from merely a worldy, human perspective and truely seek Him the answers will come to you.

Pointus,

Here is the song of John Newton (the previous slave trader) that describes his experience. Read it, listen to the music. He realized that he was a wretch, but the Amazing Grace he receved changed everything. I know you have not received that grace, even though used to claim to be a Christian yet walked away from it (as you said in one of your earlier posts, there is still time to reconsider and receive His grace.

Post where you shared your falling away - - http://www.christian-forum.net/index.php?s...rt=#entry175650

You may also want to learn more about a man named David Brainard.

Words: John Newton, Olney Hymns (London: W. Oliver, 1779). Exception: the last stanza is by an unknown author; it appeared as early as 1829 in the Baptist Songster, by R. Winchell (Wethersfield, Connecticut), as the last stanza of the song “Jerusalem My Happy Home.”

Music: New Britain, in Virginia Harmony, by James P. Carrell and David S. Clayton (Winchester, Virginia: 1831) (MIDI, score).

This is probably the most popular hymn in the English language—a television documentary was even made about it. Perhaps it is because its words so well describe the author: John Newton was a slave trader before coming to Christ. It was sung at the funeral of American president Ronald Reagan.

Amazing grace! How sweet the sound
That saved a wretch like me!
I once was lost, but now am found;
Was blind, but now I see.

’Twas grace that taught my heart to fear,
And grace my fears relieved;
How precious did that grace appear
The hour I first believed!

Through many dangers, toils and snares,
I have already come;
’Tis grace hath brought me safe thus far,
And grace will lead me home.

The Lord has promised good to me,
His Word my hope secures;
He will my Shield and Portion be,
As long as life endures.

Yea, when this flesh and heart shall fail,
And mortal life shall cease,
I shall possess, within the veil,
A life of joy and peace.

The earth shall soon dissolve like snow,
The sun forbear to shine;
But God, who called me here below,
Will be forever mine.

When we’ve been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We’ve no less days to sing God’s praise
Than when we’d first begun.

I'm not sure if slavery was promoted in the bible, but treating your slaves with respect and dignity was.....

Egypt got theirs... (with a little prophesy on the side)..

OK linguist...

Let's have a word study (Greek, Hebrew, Latin, etc...) on the word 'slave':

on your mark, get set, go......

THE BIBLE DOES NOT PROMOTE slavery

in the NT, Paul's instructions:

if you're a slave, don't run away from your Master,,,,,,,,,,,that would give Christ's opponents opportunity to blaspheme christ

if you're a slave, be a good slave...........if you get a legal chance to get out of slavery, go ahead,,,,,,,,,but keep it legal, moral, loving

if you're a slave-owner,,,,,,,,,,,be a good christian slave-owner.........(not harsh)

the bible tells all about it............read the bible

Sorry Dennis Mann, none of those were Bible verses. Looks like the gospel of man to me.

1 Corinthians 7:17-24
17 Nevertheless, each one should retain the place in life that the Lord assigned to him and to which God has called him. This is the rule I lay down in all the churches. 18 Was a man already circumcised when he was called? He should not become uncircumcised. Was a man uncircumcised when he was called? He should not be circumcised. 19 Circumcision is nothing and uncircumcision is nothing. Keeping God's commands is what counts. 20 Each one should remain in the situation which he was in when God called him. 21 Were you a slave when you were called? Don't let it trouble you--although if you can gain your freedom, do so. 22 For he who was a slave when he was called by the Lord is the Lord's freedman; similarly, he who was a free man when he was called is Christ's slave. 23 You were bought at a price; do not become slaves of men. 24 Brothers, each man, as responsible to God, should remain in the situation God called him to.

It looks like the gospel of God to me.....

Lev 25:42 is similar to your quote. The verses in this area Lev 25:39-55 God speaking to the Israelites about how they should not treat their fellow countryman as slaves, subjected to a slaves service, but instead, treated as a hired man for until the year of jubilee (no more than 7 yrs.) God, at this period in time however, did allow slaves to be acquired from pagan nations, and they could be used as permanant slaves, even being handed down to their sons, like any other possession. God also reiterated that their fellow countrymen were not to be treated w/ severity.

but Jesus....................................!!!!! rolleyes.gif When he came, he taught on love and respect. I think that slavery should have been done away with as far as treating those from pagan nations different than their fellow countrymen. If there were to be slaves, they should have all been treated as God intended the israelites to treat their fellow countrymen. Not subjected to a slave's service, but as a hired man, and not with severity. And not for more than a jubilee period.

Blessings all!

Book of never ch 12 vs 24...
Eccl12and13
Eph.6
[5] Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ;
[9] And, ye masters, do the same things unto them, forbearing threatening: knowing that your Master also is in heaven; neither is there respect of persons with him.

Col.3
[22] Servants, obey in all things your masters according to the flesh; not with eyeservice, as menpleasers; but in singleness of heart, fearing God:

Col.4
[1] Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven.

---.2
[9] Exhort servants to be obedient unto their own masters, and to please them well in all things; not answering again;

1Pet.2
[18] Servants, be subject to your masters with all fear; not only to the good and gentle, but also to the froward.

The bible is the new and old testament, so to say the bible does not promote slavery is not accurate. It acknowledges slavery and in some cases glorifies slave owners. It may not specifically condone slavery, but it certainly doesn't speak out against it.

The whole book of Philemon was written to a slave owner and is included in the new testament. It pleads for leniancy even though it acknowledges the right of the slave owner.

The original question is not a biblical quote

I have fallen off the wagon several times and have never seen a pink elephant. So if that scripture exists I would have to say it isn't "inspired by the spirit". He that falleth off the wagon findeth numerous ways to justify himself would be a more accurate proverb

First thing Noah did after deliverance?
What about Lot?

At least not all Christians took offense (or feel defensive) to the start post of this thread..

I certainly didn't, although I question its accuracy. Debate is a gift of god (or is it a diversion of the devil, did satan have the power of creation?). If I find myself getting angry I know it will be time to quit.

With regard to the slavery issue, we first must understand the principal that was taught with regard to a nation in "rebellion". God......yes, I said God foretold that this nation would be taken into captivity for disciplinary purposes. It is not a mystery that this pattern has been in existence for all of time. It is not a new pattern, thus it/slavery is not a new issue. It has always been going on somewhere.

The new covenant says love the Lord your God with ALL your heart, soul, strength and mind and love your neighbor as yourself.

Good point, but old law. I suppose you probably know.

Duet. 6:4 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God [is] one LORD:
6:5 And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

Lev. 19:18 ..thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself..

@damo
Yes there are many governments that are so corrupt they take big bribes from corporations and will not pass a minimum wage law for their people who make $1-$4 / day which is not nearly enough to live on. This is worse than slavery. If you have a slave, you are responsible to feed and house and clothe him / her, but evil corporations are allowed to just give their workers pocket change which doesn't cover these basic needs of life that the slaves in America where lavished with.

Yes the slaves in America lived like kings compared to the average worker in these countries, like the Philippines, where I am now. I'm sure the slaves in Israel had it very good and never complained, especially if could be with God and not with heathen idolaters.
