After watching this movie, for the first time this morning ( July 30th, 2008 ) . . . I was
brought to tears.

Why ?

Because the saving of the future, of the world as we know it . . . is a fantasy.

However, in my imagination as a child I would have loved the Mimzy rabbit . . . being
part of the plot to save the future generations.

As I watched the ending of the movie . . . The world has become a more beautiful place, where it is presumed that humanity has integrated better into the natural ecosystems.

I said as I cried, `Thank God, the New Heaven & Earth will be our promise of the future ' . . .

Emma becomes emotionally attached to Mimzy, from which she learns how to further operate the devices. The children's unusual abilities and Emma's obsessive attachment to Mimzy soon alert their parents and schoolteachers to the devices. Later, a power black-out of the entire Pacific northwest caused by the toys alerts the FBI to their activities as well. The family is held for questioning, and it is revealed that Mimzy is actually an advanced form of artificial life utilizing nanotechnology. Mimzy has brought a message from humanity's future, where Emma explains that pollution has corrupted humanity's DNA. Many rabbits like Mimzy were sent to the past, but none had successfully returned; Mimzy is the last one remaining. Mimzy explains to the children that they must use the toys as a time machine to return her to the future with uncorrupted 21st century DNA, which the people of the future can use to correct the damage to their DNA caused by the ecological problems.

Fortunately, Mimzy carries with it a tear from Emma, thus providing the pure DNA required to prevent the disaster. In the new future, Emma is revered as the "mother" of all the present generations. The world has become a more beautiful place, where it is presumed that humanity has integrated better into the natural ecosystems.

I've not seen the movie but I would have liked a Mimzy too. He sounds nice.
Are Atheist waiting on the tear drop DNA from Emma? I don't know, if so then I guess humanity as a whole feels in need of a saviour. Something to think about.

Societal aspects
Most mammals will produce tears in response to extreme pain or other stimuli, but crying as an emotional reaction is considered by many to be a uniquely human phenomenon, possibly due to humans' advanced self-awareness. Some studies suggest that elephants, gorillas, and camels may cry as well.[5]

In nearly all cultures, crying is seen as a specific act associated with tears trickling down the cheeks and accompanied by characteristic sobbing sounds. Emotional triggers are most often anger and grief, but crying can also be triggered by sadness, joy, fear, laughter or humor, frustration, remorse or other strongly-experienced emotions.

In many cultures, crying is associated with babies and children. The human brain is programmed to consider the crying of a child irritating, and thus make the person desire to aid the baby to stop the crying.[citation needed] Some cultures consider crying to be undignified and infantile, casting aspersions on those who cry publicly, except if it is due to the death of a close friend or relative. In most cultures, it is more socially acceptable for women to cry than men, however this stereotype is slowly dying.[6][7][8]

Some modern therapy movements such as Re-evaluation Counseling teach that crying is beneficial to health and mental well-being, encouraging it positively.[9]

An insincere display of grief or dishonest remorse is called crocodile tears, from the ancient anecdote that crocodiles would pretend to weep while luring or devouring their prey.[10]
