Numbers 27

8 "Say to the Israelites, 'If a man dies and leaves no son, turn his inheritance over to his daughter.

Numbers 6

6 "If she marries after28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [c] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives. she makes a vow or after her lips utter a rash promise by which she obligates herself 7 and her husband hears about it but says nothing to her, then her vows or the pledges by which she obligated herself will stand. 8 But if her husband forbids her when he hears about it, he nullifies the vow that obligates her or the rash promise by which she obligates herself, and the LORD will release her.

Deut 22;

23 If a man happens to meet in a town a virgin pledged to be married and he sleeps with her, 24 you shall take both of them to the gate of that town and stone them to death—the girl because she was in a town and did not scream for help, and the man because he violated another man's wife. You must purge the evil from among you.

28 If a man happens to meet a virgin who is not pledged to be married and rapes her and they are discovered, 29 he shall pay the girl's father fifty shekels of silver. [c] He must marry the girl, for he has violated her. He can never divorce her as long as he lives.

1 Corinthians 14

34 women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. 35If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.

1 Timothy 2

11A woman should learn in quietness and full submission. 12I do not permit a woman to teach or to have authority over a man; she must be silent. 13For Adam was formed first, then Eve. 14And Adam was not the one deceived; it was the woman who was deceived and became a sinner. 15But women[a] will be saved[b] through childbearing—if they continue in faith, love and holiness with propriety.

1 Corinthians 11
3Now I want you to realize that the head of every man is Christ, and the head of the woman is man, and the head of Christ is God. 4Every man who prays or prophesies with his head covered dishonors his head. 5And every woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered dishonors her head—it is just as though her head were shaved. 6If a woman does not cover her head, she should have her hair cut off; and if it is a disgrace for a woman to have her hair cut or shaved off, she should cover her head. 7A man ought not to cover his head,[b] since he is the image and glory of God; but the woman is the glory of man. 8For man did not come from woman, but woman from man; 9neither was man created for woman, but woman for man. 10For this reason, and because of the angels, the woman ought to have a sign of authority on her head.

Leviticus 12:

1 The LORD said to Moses, 2 "Say to the Israelites: 'A woman who becomes pregnant and gives birth to a son will be ceremonially unclean for seven days, just as she is unclean during her monthly period. 3 On the eighth day the boy is to be circumcised. 4 Then the woman must wait thirty-three days to be purified from her bleeding. She must not touch anything sacred or go to the sanctuary until the days of her purification are over. 5 If she gives birth to a daughter, for two weeks the woman will be unclean, as during her period. Then she must wait sixty-six days to be purified from her bleeding.

Matthew 5
31"It has been said, 'Anyone who divorces his wife must give her a certificate of divorce.'[f] 32But I tell you that anyone who divorces his wife, except for marital unfaithfulness, causes her to become an adulteress, and anyone who marries the divorced woman commits adultery.

the world thinks that new-born babies are innocent,,,,,,,,,,,,but

God sees them as sinners...........we are "born in sin, conceived in iniquity",,,,,,,,,because we are the offspring of sinners, ........adam and eve plunged us into spiritual death, 6000 years ago.

God draws a picture-story of this principle (babies are not innocent)........in the above scripture...........the mother is "un-clean", because she has brot a sinner into the world

and , Thank God!.............God has provided unto us a Savior!...........Jesus Christ, the Lamb of God , who takes away the sin of the world!

every spiritual doctrine and principle has a physical picture-story in the OT

Hallelujah!

Thank You, Lord , for my Bible!

So, I guess we can't sing either.....good thing I can read since I don't have a husband, and it's a good thing that in all the years since my husband left to go back into the World...that I have been directly accountable to Jesus.

dont let this get to you sharon this is just one guy playing with words he does not understand

its so simple for guys like this to go back to the old laws with out thinking what christ did for us on the cross

off course this was the law

see christ was not born so they had to abide by these laws but soon as christ was born he dealt with this old law

i too am divorced sharon and i too am accountable to god

we all wil be in trouble if these old laws were in full efect and my x wife would be seen as an adulteres

i would not be allowed to marry my fiancee who is a pastor i would have to live out the single life and pray that i get reconciled to my x wife who is a non believer

solicitors would have to look to the old laws instead of abiding by what they are taught and most law firms would have to hire scholars who understand the old laws

we would not have the family law court set in place going by the old laws and it gets worse back in those days virgins who were raped were stoned to death

the old testament world is not the same world that we are living right now. The cultural implication to be justify that if someone rapes you, that person has to marry you. If he does not marry you then no one else would want you since a shame has been forced upon you.

In our modern world, some cultures like the hmong shamanism culture place a great importance into such bible verses. If a daughter of someone is kidnap by a stranger, the parents has no choice but to wed them anyway. If the daughter of a parent does not come home after midnight, her parents can use her cultural laws to find her bf or whoever that she spent the night with and force a marriage upon them.

It is all cultural folks.
Dani
In the following scripture references -

The Lord admits that "touch" happened.

Who here will tell the Lord (Who made all things -Jn 1:3) that He was unclean until evening?

Will "pointus"?

Leviticus 15
19 And if a woman have an issue, and her issue in her flesh be blood, she shall be put apart seven days: and whosoever toucheth her shall be unclean until the even.

Luke 8:
42 For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him.
43 And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any,
44 Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched.
45 And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me?
46 And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.
47 And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately.
48 And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.

There are many who will be decieved in the latter days. Satan knows the scriptures better than most of us.

Many cults start from the same scriptures that "pointus" is using on his agenda today.

BibleScholar, I guess "pointus" didn't like the earlier answer concerning vss 28, 29: http://www.christian-forum.net/index.php?s...st&p=215418

QUOTE (Dani @ Jul 27 2008, 08:00 AM) *
The Lord knows the heart.

Your first reference vss 23, 24 as rape is absurd. She was in the city. As such her cries of rape would have been heard, regardless of how faint. The Lord presumes the innocence of the woman as the vss 25, 26, 27 that you do not quote show.

Israel was to put evil away! The Lord indeed knows the heart.

28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel's father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.
A fine of 50 shekels of silver (probably in addition to the dowry) was to deter men from such a vicious act as rape. The man was bound to marry her, and never to divorce her, it didn’t matter how much she was below him, and how unpleasing she might afterwards be to him.

As the Word points out in the biblical world of 1000BC, Tamar (King David's daughter) was very unpleasing to Amnon after he had raped her:

2 Samuel 13
10 And Amnon said unto Tamar, Bring the meat into the chamber, that I may eat of thine hand. And Tamar took the cakes which she had made, and brought them into the chamber to Amnon her brother.
11 And when she had brought them unto him to eat, he took hold of her, and said unto her, Come lie with me, my sister.
12 And she answered him, Nay, my brother, do not force me; for no such thing ought to be done in Israel: do not thou this folly.
13 And I, whither shall I cause my shame to go? and as for thee, thou shalt be as one of the fools in Israel. Now therefore, I pray thee, speak unto the king; for he will not withhold me from thee.
14 Howbeit he would not hearken unto her voice: but, being stronger than she, forced her, and lay with her.
15 Then Amnon hated her exceedingly; so that the hatred wherewith he hated her was greater than the love wherewith he had loved her. And Amnon said unto her, Arise, be gone.
16 And she said unto him, There is no cause: this evil in sending me away is greater than the other that thou didst unto me. But he would not hearken unto her.

Tamar wanted to be married to Amnon – after he raped her. She considered it more evil to send her away - than the actual rape.

The law was FULLFILLED in Christ. Some day we will understand that fully.

Your questions:
QUOTE
If you were the victim of rape, would you want to marry your attacker and stay with him for the rest of his life? NO (I live in 2008 AD not 1500 BC)

If you were a parent, would you accepts money from the rapist of your daughter? NO

Would you stone a victim of rape to death? NO (I am not required to. Jesus fulfilled “the law”, which you so aptly point out.)

How do the above compare with the way victims of rape are treated in enlightened societies today? You are asking a comparison of apples to oranges. I compared apple to apples above. Shame be to you for your trick question.

As bad as it is, in which tradition (biblical or modern) would you have been treated better as a victim of rape? Ah, such a trick question. You should work for political pollsters. I would suggest a study of the righteousness within which the Lord expected Israel to live.

Is the bible a good book? YES

Thanks Dani but sadly there are people that will never move forward its like some like looking back to the past instead of moving forward and looking to the futer

we have guys like this where i am living and i have been involved in discussions like this

one thing i look for when ever i see topics like this is this going to bring healing are people able to move forward or is this set up to hurt our sisters in the lord

we also have guys who have not matured they think they have matured to were they understand what they are reading but what i have seen a lot of these guys dont understand what was done on the cross or are they wiling to allow the holy spirit to guide them and correct them

you cant live in the past if you tend to live by these old laws its like you are allowing religon to grab hold off you

it was hard back in those days and from what i have observed not all women were stoned to death or killed as you are seeing by what the op has left

in most countrys many follow these old laws especialy muslim cultures tend to stick to these old laws

it hard for a single women or a single mother to survive in a world were its dominated by men who dont under stand what christ did for us on the cross

i certainly cant see my self treating my sisters in the lord like what i have heard what happens in india pakistan eygpt and in iran

men can have as many wifes as they want and they have the right to pick who they want if a wife does not meet the husbands needs he has the right to beat her into submission or even rape her if she refueses to have sex with him men can marry young girls and men dont tend to get punished like the women do concerning sharia law

and know we have experts like the op thinking they under stand the truth concerning women and the biblical laws

i dont even treat my fiancee like the women were treated back then and i dont let no guy look down on the single women in our new church we planted in la castellana if i see a male abusing his rights i wil pull him up when i am with my fiancee

i also talk to the young boys in our youth group and the parents trust me as in the philippines their are muslims who stick to the way they have been brought up and in certain parts of the philippines they go by sharia law but its rejected in the courts concerning filapino residents

one group wants one island to its self where they have sharia law in full effect

i feel for my sisters in the lord yet i am a male but i have let go of the way i was brought up

as i left in my post if the old laws were in ful effect my x wife would be seen as an adulteres and i would not be alowed to move forward and marry my fiancee i would have to live out the single life and pray that god brings my x wife back to me who is a non believer mean while the guys she has slept with and had a kid too and if reconciliation was to happen i would have to forgive her to the point were i father some one elses child

once a women leaves a guy she will have sexual relationships with other men and god knows what she can catch

we need to look at what was done on the cross and not focus on the past

hears my question if the old laws were introduced would you be able to live by them ?

God bless from damo

women are to be silent in church........

Actually, this is from Corinthians, and The Church was already growing. I have read and heard that because women of that time were deitized, and because these people had come from a pagan background where licenteousness was the rule, they almost had to be taught everything from scratch. They had none of the social standards that the modern world has, and most women in the new churches, had previously served as priestess prostitutes in Dianna's temple. I believe this is why these laws were in effect that brought order to a group that wasn't used to it.

On another forum topic, I told of how a boy with a herd of sheep tried to buy my daughter when she was in Iraq. The sad part is, that women are bought and sold in that part of the world.

QUOTE
When my daughter called me from Iraq one time, she told me that she and a male soldier from Oklahoma were in the guard tower one day, when a boy of 9 or 10 led a herd of sheep and several cows up to the tower. He approached the male soldier, pointed to the female soldier and said, "I buy madame." The guy said, "what!!!???" said the kid, "have sheep to pay!!!"
