Full Version: Atheist Testing God With A Prayer

I have a strong urge to put god to the test. And why not? Everyday millions of people put god to the test by making demands on god in the form of prayers. The course of life continues to unfold in exactly the same way it it has been for billions of years, with some events attributed to gods of one kind or the other. But is he really there listening to these prayers and deciding which to respond to favourably and which to ignore. OK, let me, an atheist, put him to the test just like theist, by offering the following prayer;

Oh, dear God, Father in heaven, you are the most high and worthy of praise and respect. I prayer from the bottom of the being, dear Father, that I may not and never win the grand million-pound lottery. In Jesus name, I prayer. Amen.

How do you think god will respond to this prayer?

1) If he becomes indignant that I don't believe in him, then he is not going to answer my prayer. If he does not answer my prayer, this means I shall win the grand million-pound lottery. Great financial result for me.

2) If he chooses to answer my prayer, in which case I never win the lottery. I would be no better or worse off than I am now.

Which way do you think god would go? This is a great prayer - why don't you guys give it a go?

Hello dear atheist

I am not sure if this is just a joke of if you are truely searching for God in your life. Fisrt of all, God does not like to be mocked, He does enjoy a humble heart and search for Him with your whole heart.

Many people miss understand God the Father (YHWH) for a genie that grants wishes. He is not out there to fullfill your wildest fantasies and to put up a show, with all the respect. There is more than enough evidence in the Bible that God does exist and that Jesus did die for our sins. Most scholars that try to refute the Bible eventually turn to Christ as they then realise that the Bible is the absolute truth. God reveals Himself thru the Bible and His caracter can be learn from it, based thereon, I can assure you that if you thruely search for God, that He will make Himself known to you in His time and His way.

Please just remember that God is not only found in churches, mega preacher converences and bible study groups. He sent His son, Jesus, who is God Himself in human form, to die for our sins. He came to save the lost and did not come to just bless those that are already saved. He came to set the captives in this world free, He came to give sight to the spiritually blinded and He proofed His intentions while He was on earth. Jesus never accossiated Himself with the rich and famous, instead, He was always busy with the lost and lonely, giving them strength and giving them courage and setting them free. In most cases He just needed a humble heart and faith in Him to be able to set them free.

God through His Holy Spirit, is just as busy outside the church, than He is on the inside. Don't be fooled by christian traditions which are in the end just traditions of men. Don't be fooled by preachers (especially mega preachers) that masquerade in all their splendour and fame and also don't be fooled by so-called christians that do not live a life in total surrender to the Word of God. The Bible says that not everyone that call Jesus by His name, will be saved. The Bible says that many will one day (judgement day) say: Lord, didn't we cast out demons in your name, didn't we do great wonders and miracles in Your name? But God will say to them: depart from me you workers of inequity for I never knew you!

This is harsh words, I know. This means than many people will put up a show, pretend to be God chosen and preach the gospel BUT its about your heart, your faith in Jesus your saviour and a life that proofs it. To conclude, please don't be fooled by christians pretending to know the truth and disgard the Word of God based on people that offend you. But seach God with a humble heart and He will listen. Pick up a copy of the Bible today are start reading the message of God to us all.

May YHWH our Father in heaven listen to you as you humble yourself before His throne.

I can only say it has taken me 40 years to realise that sometimes no answer IS God's answer.

Dear pointus,

You say you are an antheist? To my way of thinking, that takes a lot of faith!

What I mean by that is, with all the evidence of God's existence all around us, in the earth and the universe, and with the advantage of modern day science discovering more evidence of "intelligent design" everyday, the obvious conclusion is that God Exists! It even takes "faith" to believe otherwise, even if it is faith in the the random chance that something comes from nothing.

In your post you start out with saying: "I have a strong urge to put god to the test"...So it seems you do you acknowledge Him?

If you sincerely do have a strong urge to "put God to a test" to see if He will answer your prayer, and if this is not a joke or game on your part, why not take a different tack and change your prayer to this:

Dear God, Father in heaven, you are the Most High and Worthy of Praise and Respect. But I have doubts that You exist. Please convince me beyond a shadow of a doubt, that You DO exist, and that You care for me so much that You sent Your only Son, Jesus Christ to provide the way for me to be saved, and to know you personally. I pray from the bottom of my being, Dear Father, that You will answer my prayer. In Jesus name, I pray. Amen.

So why not give it a go, pointus, and take a first step and pray sincerely to God to reveal Himself to you so that you will KNOW He exists....and then watch for the answer to your request to Him.

pointus, God is your friend. But you also have an enemy-Satan. He doesn't ever want you to come to the "knowledge of Christ". He wants you to be confused and he wants you to think the worst about God. So the only way we can truly know the heart of God is to read His Word for ourselves and see what HE says. Your enemy wants you to remain in the dark. John 10:10 says that, "the thief does not come except to steal, and to kill and to destroy. " But Jesus says, " that I have come that you might have life and have it more abundantly."

Satan wants you to doubt God and His love and goodness towards you. If you look over in Genesis Chapter 3, read how satan tempted Eve. He got her to doubt what God said. He continually says, "Did God really say?" in this passage. Finally, satan even takes a crack at "Jesus, God in the flesh": In Mathew chapter 4. He tries to get Jesus to sin by tempting Him with the lust of the flesh (bread-Jesus was hungry), lust of the eyes (I will give you the world if you bow down to me), and the pride of life (IF you really are the Son of Man...). Notice how Jesus replies to satan each time- with the Word of God! If you don't know what God says about you and about Himself , His love for you and His compassion for you, you can be greatly misled.

So first, let me say, don't believe the lies of the enemy. He doesn't want you to believe God exists nor to believe what God says at all. Satan wants you to question Gods goodness and love for you AND His ability to answer your requests.

It seems your intellectual side doesn't believe that there is a God. The Bible says that our intellectual side can never receive the things of God. We can't come to God with our intellect. We must come to God in FAITH. Romans 8: 7-8 says that, " For to be fleshly minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. Hebrews 11:6 says, "But without faith, it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He IS, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him."

I challenge you, make up your mind today. CHOOSE to believe in God. That is the first step in getting your prayers answered. You can't even be saved until you believe. Romans 10:9-10 says, "that if our confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus Christ and BELIEVE in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved"

Faith is the currency of the kingdom of God. Take time and read Hebrews Ch. 11-12. NOTHING is accomplished without faith in God.

Finally, God is sovereign. We can question Him and ask, but remember, He is God. He still has the final say. Even so, since God does love us, believe that He also knows what is best for us. God says, "My ways are higher than you ways and My thoughts are higher than your thoughts" He doesn't think or behave like we do. He knows the beginning from the end and everything in-between. Know that He CAN be trusted!...with everything that concerns us Hebrews 2:17 and James 5:11).

pointus,

Well, if God is a loving God, and a God of justice and truth, He won't answer any prayers for money if the person desiring the money does so for selfish reasons. And, according to the Bible, He won't answer prayers which aren't made in faith, meaning that the person praying believes in God AND that God is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him. (This is in the Bible - look it up.)

On the other hand, you have proposed a "negative" test, in which you ask God to not give you vast sums of money (in the lottery, specifically). Well, that's sort of like praying, "God, don't let me grow any taller. Amen." That is, it's not much of a "test". Furthermore, supposing you eventually do win millions in the lottery, you would have to ask yourself if you had met the requirements I mentioned above (believing in God and His willingness to reward a diligent seeker), and if you had been sincere in your prayer. I am going to go out on a limb here and suggest that you didn't meet the requirements, nor were you sincere in your prayer.

So, if you are "testing" the God of the Bible, you have to limit your tests to those which test the God of the Bible, meaning you have to meet the conditions the Bible sets. You haven't done that in your "prayer test".
dennis mann
i imagine that,,,,,,,,millions of times.........

wonderful NT Saints (christians) have prayed "Lord Jesus, please bring peace and love to the world. feed all the hungry. heal all the sick. End poverty, world-wide,,,,,,,,,etc"

why didn't God answer these prayers?............in a way, He did answer these prayers..........He sent into our world JESUS, EMMANUEL, HOLY SPIRIT, BIBLE, PREACHERS, TEACHERS, ETC

what does the bible say?............
each person must help those who are poorer than themselves
each person must help those who are sicker than themselves
all must love and help their neighbor
etc
if the world lived this way..........99.9 % of all our problems would be solved.............

so, what is our problem today?............it's our un-belief.............we must believe the bible

belief includes obedience, repentance, love, performance, hard work, etc

Atheist Testing God With A Prayer

Hi pointus,

God does not play games. I played so many foolish things when I was a non-believer, I am so glad I got to know God. I did so many embarrasing things in retrospect. I still do but not nearly as much, it becoming less and less as I get to God more. My only regret is that I waited so long to become believer. I hope you don't wait too long to get to know God and become a follower of Jesus. Jesus will show you how to live decently in His Gospels (Mattew, Mark, Luke and John).

thank you.

In Jesus' love, hitomi
Neal
Actually, I have a feeling that if an atheist or non-believer prays for Christians, then the likeliness of God answering that prayer/strength of that prayer increases.

Example: Christians dying of cancer, atheists please pray.

I somehow feel that that power will be a bit greater. :|

its like us christians asking god to deal with the homosexuals and the gays as he did when he sent the two angels to destroy sodom and gomorah

hear is the reason to why God destroyed sodom and gomorah

Ezekiel 16

49 this is what your sister sodom has done wrong she and her daughters were proud that they had plenty of food and had peace and security they didnt help the poor and the needy

50 They were arrogant and did disgusting things in front of me so i did away with them when i saw this

51 samaria didnt commit half the sins you did . you have done many more disgusting things then they ever did . Because of all the disgusting things that you have done you make your sisters look inocent

so do you think god should respond if he sees what you do in your own home like he saw what was happening in sodom and gomorah ?

also its like me praying for the old laws to come into effect then once the old laws are in full force this will give us the right to deal with the foul things that we are having to put up with know and god help the gay community if these old laws come into effect

I have a strong urge to put god to the test. And why not? Everyday millions of people put god to the test by making demands on god in the form of prayers. The course of life continues to unfold in exactly the same way it it has been for billions of years, with some events attributed to gods of one kind or the other. But is he really there listening to these prayers and deciding which to respond to favourably and which to ignore. OK, let me, an atheist, put him to the test just like theist, by offering the following prayer;

I never test things that I don't believe in. For instance I don't believe in ghosts and so I have no need to test them by going in search for one. So why would anyone test God who they believe doesn't exist by praying?

His Glory is a Rainbow
He doesn't even hear you. Until you believe, you have NO access to Him. He is perfect and you are not. This is a gap you cannot bridge, but He has done it for you. You can accept the gift, or not. Until you take on a covering (Belief on His Son for salvation), you have no access. So the answer to your question about the answer to your prayer to no God available to you is that you will die in your sins, either with lots of cash, or not much cash, either way, your eternal condition will be more horrible than you can bear.

I hate to play devil's advocate, and am a Christian, but since the Bible states that god requires faith and he has left no proof of his existance, doesn't proving he exists indicate that he doesn't? *head explodes* blink.gif

I think the person quoted above was saying - look at the overwhelming abundance of information (that stops just short of proof so that it may be by faith) when making your decision. You don't have to choose blind faith.
