Does Catholicism still teach that it is the one true Church founded by Christ? Many think not, but there is no denying the church's official position:

"This is the sole Church of Christ, which in the Creed we profess to be one, holy, catholic and apostolic." Pg. 214, #811

Referring to the Catholic church, the Catechism pronounces:

"In fact, in this one and only Church of God..." Pg. 216, #817

"First, the Church is catholic because Christ is present in her. Where there is Christ Jesus, there is the Catholic Church." Pg. 220, #830

The pope has to believe he is leading the true church. It goes with the territory. But, do we hold up the Protestant system churches as a contrast? The differences are subtle indeed! Both have clergy, one-man presiding ( we changed his title during the reformation), program-based "service"...etc. The deception is revealed by another deception!

I'll apologize for not viewing the video. One has only so much time.

However, I think I agree with the main point dennis mann is making with this post. I have been disappointed in a number of aspects of the newest pope. I left the Catholic church, and one of the biggest reason was its claims to exclusivity. I came to see this claim as having more to do with trying to maintain the institutional aspects of the church, and less about ministering to its flock.

I don't follow Catholic doings too closely these days, but my impression was the previous pope was at least moving in the direction of getting away from this exclusivity. Benedict seems to be taking a big step backwards.

I still have many friends and family members that are Catholics, and have a great deal of respect for their faith and the fruit they produce. I just wish the higher ups could get with a more reasonable program for the institution.
