Benadryl to help you sleep (it has the same ingredient as Advil PM without the pain control properties which aren't good for you)... smile.gif My doctor told me to use that as an alternative to NSAIDs (non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs)... these types of drugs get filtered through the kidneys and used too much can cause stomach ulcers and kidney problems. smile.gif

I use ginger for nausea too... and also make sure that I don't eat much when someone around me has a virus.

WASH YOUR HANDS when you can. Most germs live UNDER THE FINGERNAILS so keep them short! wink.gif You should see mine.. oy! And don't BITE them, that's worse as you are eating the bacteria under your nails. Never put your hands in your mouth. Kids get sick that way all the time.

Mint tea is awesome and great to calm and soothe the nerves.

And of course, BANANAS for Potassium! wink.gif

Here is way!

http://ririanproject.com/2006/09/07/10-rea...ink-more-water/

So here are 10 reasons why drinking water is good for you and why you should make drinking water part of your daily routine:

1. Get healthy skin.

Nothing will improve the appearance of your skin better than consuming enough water. It’s a pity women spend so much money on skin products, while neglecting the cheapest and most effective one - water. Water is the single most important element for cellular integrity. Drinking water moisturizes your skin from the inside out. Water is also essential to maintaining elasticity and suppleness and helps prevent dryness. The real fountain of youth can be found in a glass of water.

2. Flush toxins.

Water helps remove toxins from the body, in particular from the digestive tract. Our kidney system is unique in its filtering capabilities and totally dependent upon water in order for it to work. Daily fluid intake is essential to its efficient operation, particularly because there is some decrease in function with age. Water helps get rid of excess nitrogen, urea, and ketones, so it is particularly important when following a high protein diet. You need even more water to help your kidneys do their work if you’re eating big to gain weight.

3. Reduce your risk of heart attack.

Researchers at Loma Linda University in California studied more than 20,000 healthy men and women and found that people who drink more than five glasses of water a day were less likely to die from a heart attack or heart disease than those who drank fewer than two glasses a day.

4. Cushion and lube your joints and muscles.

Water makes up a large part of the fluid that lubricates and cushions your joints and muscles. And although not the only element associated with muscle cramps, athletes have long recognized that even mild dehydration can produce cramps. So drinking water before, during and after exercise can also help reduce muscle cramping and premature fatigue.

According to the American College of Sports Medicine, adequate fluid replacement helps to maintain hydration therefore optimizing and enhancing performance of those participating in regular exercise. They suggest flavored waters to promote hydration and to increase palatability. Products such as Gatorade’s Propel Fitness Water are, therefore, terrific substitutes for plain water to increase fluid intake and meet the optimum consumption of water per day, thus enhancing performance and lessening the possibility of dehydration.

5. Get energized and be alert.

On average, most adults lose about 10 cups of fluid a day through sweating, exhaling, urinating, and bowel movements. Even minor dehydration can cause impaired concentration, headaches, irritability and fatigue.

Water is also essential for proper circulation in the body. The levels of oxygen in the bloodstream are greater when the body is well hydrated. The more oxygen the body has readily available the more fat it will burn for energy without the presence of oxygen the body cannot utilize stored fat for energy efficiently. Not only will the body burn more fat when well hydrated but because there are increased oxygen levels you will also have more energy.

Drinking more water everyday will help your think more clearly. Research has repeatedly shown that staying hydrated is necessary for the human brain, which is 85 percent water, to function at optimal levels. That is why many school systems throughout the country now encourage students to keep a bottle of water at their desks and to drink it throughout the day.

6. Stay regular.

Water helps prevent constipation by adding fluid to the colon and bulk to stools. Something as simple as fluid plays a major role in preventing constipation. Not only does the liquid encourage bowel movement, but it also softens the stools.

Water is essential for proper digestion, nutrient absorption and chemical reactions. The carbohydrates and proteins that our bodies use as food are metabolized and transported by water in the bloodstream. But no less important is the ability of water to transport waste material out of our bodies.

7. Reduce your risk of disease and infection.

Consistent failure to drink enough water can lead to Chronic Cellular Dehydration. This condition where the body’s cell are never quite hydrated enough leave them in a weakened state, vulnerable to attack from disease. It weakens the body’s overall immune system and leads to chemical, nutritional and pH imbalances that can cause a host of diseases.

When you don’t have enough water in your body, your cells start to draw water from the bloodstream. Your heart has to work harder because your blood gets sludgy, and your body starts to redirect blood away from less vital areas. Dehydration can set in even before you start to feel thirsty. This is a great strain on the body because it impairs the kidneys in their vital function of purifying the blood and helping the body get rid of toxins.

Also Michaud and coworkers found that the incidence of cancer in the urinary bladder was reduced significantly by a high fluid intake in a ten-year study involving nearly 48,000 men. The top 20% of subjects who participated in the study drank 2500 ml per day or more, while the bottom 20% drank 1200 ml or less. The authors concluded that within this range, the risk of bladder cancer decreased by 7% for every 240 ml of fluid added.

8. Regulate your body temperature.

Water regulates the body’s cooling system. Sports drinks are useful when consumed after or during vigorous and prolonged exercise in high heat. But most experts agree that water works better than carbohydrates or sugared beverages for moderate exercise. For instance, if you drink 12 ounces of plain water, your body will absorb 8 ounces of it within 15 minutes. If you drink 12 ounces of a 10% sugar solution, less than 1 ounce will be absorbed in the same period. The typical soft drink is a 10 to 12% sugar solution.

Water is the nutrient your body needs the most. Between 55 and 75 percent of adult body weight is water, and it is critical in regulating all body organs and temperature.

9. Burn more fat and build more muscle.

It has been shown that dehydration decreases protein synthesis. Protein synthesis is what builds muscle. It is an energy costly process. When you suppress protein synthesis, fewer calories end up building proteins and more calories end up in your fat stores. It’s elementary: calories have two possible fates - they either get burned, or they get stored. When more of the calories you eat get burned, less will get stored.

Increased water consumption can help you control weight by preventing you from confusing hunger with thirst. Water will also keep your body systems, including metabolism and digestion, working properly and give you the energy (and hydration) necessary for exercise.

10. Get well.

The traditional prescription to ‛drink plenty of fluids‛ when you’re sick still holds strong. Water can help control a fever, replace lost fluids, and thin out mucus. Water plays a vital role in nearly every bodily function. Lack of water is the #1 trigger of daytime fatigue. A mere 2% drop in body water can trigger fuzzy short-term memory, trouble with basic math, and difficulty focusing on the computer screen or on a printed page.

Water is the substance of life. Life can not exist without water. We must constantly be adding fresh water to our body in order to keep it properly hydrated. Water can be a miracle cure for many common ailments such as headaches, fatigue, joint pain, and much more.

One of the thing that G-d told me, after a big brake down because of feeling very bad about the way I look, being fat! G-d told me to eat foods the way he made them, and drenk water. I tried hard to do that, eatting foods in the forum he made them, that meaning no juices, If i wanted something like OJ, I would eat and organge, I would eat the apple skin and all, and so on. I got tired of it, but as I did it, I lost a great deal of weight, 19 pound of a long time. I lose slower than others because of my thryoid, but others that dont have that kind of a proublem should be able to drop weight faster than I.

I can exersize either as others do, so i swim, and walk, bike when i can. To do what you can, and have fun is a great idea, just dont wast time talking about doing it, just do it!

My husband eats salad for lunch and drenks lots of water, that is mostly the only change he has done and has been able to drop a great deal of weight as well, over time, he feels much better.

Cancer

Learn about the most common cancers, who gets them and how they are treated.

(WebMD) It just may be that brief periods of unprotected exposure to the sun are actually good for your skin. That is the suggestion from early research conducted at Stanford University.

Sunlight triggers the synthesis of vitamin D within the body. Stanford researchers found that this action causes immune cells to travel to the outer layers of the skin where they are available to protect and help repair damage such as that caused by sun exposure.

There is a growing body of research suggesting that vitamin D deficiency increases the risk for a host of human cancers, as well as other disorders including type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis, tuberculosis, and multiple sclerosis.

But the idea that sunlight, in small doses, may actually protect the skin from damage is bound to be controversial. A dermatologist who spoke to WebMD was skeptical.

"Everyone agrees that vitamin D is useful, even though most of the benefits that have been attributed to it are still theoretical," New York University dermatology professor Darrel Rigel, MD, says.

"What isn't theoretical are the more than 8,100 Americans who will die of melanoma this year and the 1 million Americans who will get skin cancers. The vast majority of these cancers are caused by UV exposure."

Researcher Hekla Sigmundsdottir, PhD, tells WebMD that the findings are preliminary and that clinical trials are needed to confirm the findings.

The study is published in the January issue of the online journal Nature Immunology.

Don't Abandon Your Sunscreen

The researchers found that sunlight exposure was the most efficient way to induce the receptors that direct protective cells to the skin. But nobody is suggesting that people abandon their sunscreen.

"We obviously aren't saying that it is a good idea to go out and lie in the sun all day," Sigmundsdottir says. "This paper doesn't prove that sunlight can be good for your skin. It is still a hypothesis."

Rigel says even if the hypothesis proves true, people can get all the vitamin D they need through vitamin supplements, the foods they eat, and incidental exposure to sunlight.

"Even if you wore sunscreen as directed, which means reapplying every few hours, you would probably still get enough sun exposure to more than meet your needs for vitamin D conversion," he says.

How Much Is Enough?

The answer to the question, "How much vitamin D do I need?" depends on who you are and whom you ask. Age, skin type, where you live, and the season of the year all affect vitamin D levels. Federal guidelines say adults should get between 200 and 600 international units (IU) of vitamin D each day, with recommended levels increasing with age.

Vitamin D researcher Michael F. Holick, MD, PhD, believes the optimal daily dosage for preventing disease is closer to 1,000 IU. Holick heads the Vitamin D Research Lab at Boston University and is the author of the book The UV Advantage.

Holick tells WebMD that he takes a 1,000-IU vitamin D supplement each day.

"It is not easy to get the vitamin D you need from foods unless you make a special effort," he says. "A glass of milk or vitamin D-fortified orange juice has only about 100 IU of vitamin D, and a serving of salmon has only about 500 IU."

Holick says most people can get more than enough vitamin D in the spring, summer, and fall by engaging in what he calls "sensible sun exposure" -- no more than five to 10 minutes of direct sun to unprotected legs and arms two or three times a week.

"We are not talking about burning in the sun," he says. "No one is saying that is good for you."

As long as the sunblock companies continue to pay for the "research" I feel that there is a conspiracy for dermotologist to continue to recommend people use sunblock! We american's need to wise up... whoever is paying the bills is making the rules!
What about the negative research into all the problems with sunblocks? Where was that information in this report? What about the accumulative effect of all the chemicals in the sunblock... that has got to be WORSE than sun exposure which is natural and normal for we humans (if it was not, then everyone who lives below the mason-dixon line should already be dead from UV exposure.) A tan from exposure is just your body's reaction to the sun, that's all it is. Burning is bad, there is not doubt about that, but getting a tan is mother natures way of helping our bodies prevent cancer and stay healthy.
Screw the sunblock companies! It's a rip off, and in the long run, very , very harmful to our skins.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I did read some where that sun block wasnt good to use at all. I dont use it myself and take to sun in small amounts. But I do feel so much better after getting in the sun, and I have brake outs that clear up after being in the sun. Just better all around!

So, please add your own, If I think of any more I will add them as they come to mind!

Hugs!

Peacemaker,

Amen on the water being the best for you and the sun in small amounts with sunscreen!

My daughter had a kidney stone in high school (she's almost 23 now) but the one thing the doc told her was to DRINK WATER!!! She hardly had a cup of water all day many days.. she could get up in the morning, not use the bathroom, go all through the school day and even when she got home, still didn't have to go. Think of the toxins that build in your body that way.

Way to go saying no to drugs... that's the way to stay fit, and to walk a lot.. you are going to be fine. I agree with eating the right kinds of foods too! I wonder, they are still saying on the news that there is a problem with the salmonella in tomatoes, but are also saying there may be more vegetables affected, so everyone, PLEASE BE CAREFUL while this is still in effect. It was on yahoo this morning. xoxox Rose

Cayenne pepper will pretty much cure anything from high blood pressure, to stopping the bleeding in an open wound (just pour it in, it will not burn the wound) Take it by placing some on your tongue and swallow with water if you are brave, or else buy it in capsules at your health shop. I have taken it like a tea in boiled water, but after a while it gets a bit much.

Its good for so many things, that I cannot list them all, but you can Google it and you will be pleasantly surprised . smile.gif

Ten of the Top Cancer Fighting Foods

Finally, modern science is realizing the importance of a healthy diet in the prevention and treatment of many common health conditions, and the role of diet in the prevention of cancer is becoming increasingly clear.

The top ten cancer preventing foods are thought to include:

1. Tomatoes
Tomatoes have long been known to provide many health benefits, and they are thought to play a role in the prevention of many forms of cancers. One of the most significant benefits of the tomato is thought to lie in the fact that it contains strong antioxidant properties. Antioxidants are thought to interfere with the cell damage that can be caused by free radicals. Free radicals are a natural part of the aging process, and they have been implicated in a number of different types of cancer.

2. Blueberries
Blueberries are another fruit rich in all important antioxidants, and for this reason they are thought to play an important role in the prevention of many kinds of cancers. Blue and purple fruits, including blueberries are thought to lower the risk of some cancers, and they also are thought to improve memory function, promote a healthy urinary tract and even mitigate the effects of aging. Blueberries contain many healthy phytochemicals and phenolics, which are currently being studied for their anticancer and antiaging benefits.

3. Red Cabbage
All varieties of cabbages and related plants, including such popular choices as broccoli, cauliflower, kale, Brussels sprouts and bok choy, are very rich sources of calcium. However, red cabbage is one of the best sources of not only calcium, but flavonoids. These flavonoids are responsible for the rich purple color of red cabbage, and they are thought to have strong antioxidant properties. Red cabbage is perhaps the richest source of flavonoids in the vegetable world.

4. Red Beets

As with red cabbage, it is the flavonoids abundant in the food that give red beets their distinctive color. Red beets are a rich source of many important nutrients, including the antioxidant vitamins which are thought to play an important role in preventing many types of cancer.

5. Spinach

Spinach is one of those valuable dark green leafy vegetables that nutrition experts recommend. Spinach is one of the most nutrient dense foods available anywhere, and it is a rich source of both vitamin C and beta carotene. Both vitamin C and beta carotene are known to be powerful antioxidants, and studies have shown these antioxidants to play a role in cancer prevention. In addition, spinach is a rich source of folic acid, a vital nutrient for women of child bearing age. Studies have shown that those who eat two or more servings of spinach per week have considerably lower levels of breast and lung cancer.

6. Garlic

Studies focused on the health benefits of garlic have shown time after time that garlic really does live up to its strong reputation for being a food that promotes overall good health and wellness. It is thought that the same sulfur containing compounds that give garlic its pungent aroma and its strong flavor also are able to protect people from cancer by neutralizing common cancer causing compounds in the environment. In addition, the compounds in garlic are thought to be capable of slowing the growth of tumors.

7. Whole Wheat
In a recent study of the health effects of whole wheat products, scientists have found that those women who eat a lot of whole wheat in their diet have a significantly lower risk of both breast cancer and heart disease, two major killers of women. The wide variety of whole wheat products on the market, including pastas, cereals and breads, mean that it is quite easy to fit these healthy foods into any diet.

8. Oranges
Oranges are among the most delicious, and most nutritious of all fruits. Oranges have long been loved for their great taste and their high vitamin C content, but oranges have shown significant benefits in preventing some forms of cancer as well. In addition to vitamin C, oranges are rich in many other anticancer compounds, including over 170 phytochemicals. In addition, oranges are rich in compounds known as limonoids. These limonoids are what give oranges and other citrus fruits there tangy and slightly bitter taste, and they are thought to be highly effective anticancer compounds.

9. Strawberries

Strawberries are thought to be among the strongest of all anticancer foods, and a recent study found that those who consumed the most strawberries in their diet were up to 70% less likely to develop many types of cancer. Many other deep colored varieties of berries, such as blueberries, raspberries, cranberries and blackberries, may share the anticancer properties of strawberries.

10. Beans
Many recent studies, and much anecdotal evidence as well, points to the anticancer and overall health benefits of all kinds of beans. Beans are packed full of many important compounds, including protease inhibitors. Protease inhibitors are known to make it more difficult for cancer cells to gain a foothold in the body.

Breakthrough Updates You Need to Know on Vitamin D

Vitamin D, calciferol, is a fat-soluble vitamin. It is found in food, but also can be made in your body after exposure to ultraviolet rays from the sun. Vitamin D exists in several forms, each with a different activity. Some forms are relatively inactive in the body, and have limited ability to function as a vitamin. The liver and kidney help convert vitamin D to its active hormone form.

Bird Flu Defense Tip: 1dsz5h2.gif

Want a dirt-cheap antiseptic that kills bird flu viruses on surfaces like doorknobs and countertops? Combine regular bleach with white vinegar in a 1:1 ratio, pour the solution into a spray bottle, and you have a powerful antiviral / antiseptic solution. It's called "acidic bleach," and it spells instant death to superbugs, viruses, bacteria, molds and fungus. For EXTERNAL USE only, of course. Don't drink this, and don't put it in your food or water. Also, be sure to use this only in a well-ventilated area since the fumes from this mixture should not be inhaled.

Eat organic. If you can't find organic food, get some seed and try growing your own. Something the whole family can get involved in and you don't need alot of space.
