When you read Matthew 24 you should also read the corresponding story from Luke 21. Peerhpas also the account of this that is found in Josephus.

I am not so sure that "many" claim to be Christ...I only met one ever...but there are many antichrists...
Many will come in my name saying I am the christ..this is the foretelling of many different denominations as we have today, all claimimg they are the way to christ..

Stephen I agree with what you have written. Many are deceiving others now. They come in His name meaning....they call themselves Christ, men of Christ - Christians.
There will be one that comes as Him, pretending to be Him and that is antichrist. That deception will fool many, many Christians.

The scripture that comes to mind is:
2 Thessalonians 2:3 Let no man deceive you by any means: for that day shall not come, except there come a falling away first, and that man of sin be revealed, the son of perdition,
4.Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the Temple of God, shewing himself that he is God.
I was thinking about this the other day. It has always thrown me....sitteth in the Temple of God because I know that there won't be a temple built before His 2nd Advent. So I didn't know if perhaps it simply meant a shrine or holy place, such as the dome of the rock. As the verse tells us the son of perdition will show himself as God/Christ I believe that means he...sitteth in the place of Christ (which is the Temple of God).
