The word mazal is singular, and mazzaroth is the plural Hebrew word for zodiac found in Job 38:32. The word zodiac is Greek, taken from the Greek word "zoad" meaning: "ladder or steps." The book of Genesis tells us plainly, that G-d placed the constellation in the heavens for signs and for seasons. (Genesis 1:14) This is not astrology!

Hebrew Months - Signs In The Heavens -Tribes - Biblical Dates

Aleph -1 - ABIB - NISAN
The first month of the Jewish sacred year is Abib or Nisan
Abib - meaning: to be tender or green, i.e. a young ear of grain
Nisan (Nissan) means: their flight

The letter Aleph is over this first month, and the first commandment given to the newly born Nation of Israel before the Exodus from Egypt was clear: "This month (the month of Abib - Nisan) shall be for you the first of the months" (Exodus 12:2). The month of Abib - Nisan begins the season of the spring. The three months of this season are Nisan, Iyar, Sivan. Nisan is referred to as "the month of the great redemption." According to the accepted opinion of the sages: "In Nissan our forefathers were redeemed from Egypt and in Abib - Nisan we will be redeemed" (Tractate Rosh HaShanah 11a). Tractate Rosh HaShanah 11a is correct, "In Abib - Nisan our forefathers were indeed redeemed from Egypt and in Abib we were redeemed by Messiah Yeshua when He died for our sins, as the Passover Lamb who brought us great redemption!" In the ancient Hebrew AlephBet, the Aleph is a picture of an "ox" and stands for the father or strong leader of the house. As we will see the pictures in the heavens, and in the Hebrew letters show the glory painted for us before the foundation of the world by the Father of all glory.

Abib - Nisan Mazal: (Aries - Ram - Lamb)
Abraham told Isaac, "My son, G-d will provide Himself a lamb for a burnt offering: so Abraham and Isaac went both of them together...And Abraham lifted up his eyes, and looked, and behold behind him a ram caught in a thicket by his horns: and Abraham went and took the ram, and offered him up for a burnt offering in the stead of his son. And Abraham called the name of that place 'Yahovahyireh': as it is said to this day, In the mount of the L-RD it shall be 'seen'" Genesis 22:8,13-14. What was seen? I believe it was the great redemption of the world Abraham was shown, Yeshua on the tree (cross) paying the great price for our sins.

In this constellation of Aries there are 3 key stars whose names tell a story of the Ram i.e. Lamb.

1. El Nath - meaning: "the wounded"
2. El Natick - meaning: "the bruised"
3. Al Sharetan - meaning: "the slain"

"But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon Him; and with His stripes we are healed." (Isaiah 53:5)

The symbolizes of the Pesach sacrifice, the first sacrifice of the Jewish people to their G-d, was indeed a little lamb. This was what G-d had said it would take for the great redemption for the Hebrew household. Yeshua is symbolized as that perfect Lamb by our Hebrew Scripture! Yes, provided by His Father, for the sins of the whole house of Israel (Israel and Judah together), however, not just Israel alone, but for anyone who would call on G-d of Israel. Of all of G-d's creations, the little lamb possesses the innate ability to arouse mercy by its heartfelt cry, which arouses in us compassion. The Aleph which stands for "the Formost," our Father in Heaven, gave to the world that perfect Lamb which was "Formost", so redemption could come to YOUR household, whoever YOU are! Will YOU accept the Lamb who is the Aleph, that G-d gave?

"Thus saith the L-RD the King of Israel, and His Redeemer (Saviour) the L-RD of hosts; I am the First (Aleph), and I am the Last (Tav); and beside Me there is no G-d." (Isaiah 44:6)

"And when I (John) saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. And He laid His right hand upon me, saying unto me, 'Fear not; I am the First (Aleph) and the Last (Tav): I am He that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I AM alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.'" Revelation 1:17-18

Abib - Nisan Tribe: Judah
Judah is the tribe of kings. Judah's name means: praise, praise ye Yah. Yeshua, the Messiah came from the tribe of Judah. He is the "first and only begotten of the Father." Aleph stands for "First," therefore this month is seen as Chief in G-d's eyes. This is a holy month filled with wonder and awe, and many mighty symbol's of the Passover meal. There is much beauty in this month as we see the almond trees bloom in Israel, and all this was designed by G-d for the month of Abib - Nisan... There is more, see what you can find in your study of this month, and every other month by reading the Scriptures of biblical dates found in the Word of G-d.

Each symbol of the zodiac, large and visible from every area of the synagogue, is seen in a naturalistic setting in a pleasant sky above the earth. Clearly inscribed are the Hebrew monthly equivalents of the astrological signs. The question presents itself; why are pagan astrological signs so prominent inthe elaborate decorations of an Orthodox synagogue?

Mazel Tishre, meaning the star or constellation of the month of Tishre represents Libra that begins September 23rd. Here we start to see how these signs reverberate within the Hebrew calendar. The depiction of scales of balance of Libra reflects that the month of Tishre begins with Rosh Hashanna, the New Year and the awesome Day of Judgment. It is preceded by Mazel Elul, better known as Virgo the Virgin (August 23). An outstretched arm holds up a bouquet of five flowers extended heavenward. Elul is the traditional month of introspection and repentance proceeding the Day of Judgment and symbolically we wish to be considered pure as a virgin, holding forth the flowers of our Torah learning (five flowers; the five books of Moses) in our merit. The springtime ram of Aries is transformed into the lamb of Mazel Nisan, the Hebrew month of Passover and the representation of the lamb sacrifice that always accompanied the holiday seder. Perhaps one of the most sentimental depictions is of Mazel Sivan (Gemini the Twins) that falls in the month of May. Set against a beautiful sky, two parrots are perched facing one another on a leaf laden branch. Sivan is the month of the holiday of Shavuos that celebrates the giving of the two Tablets of the Torah. In this depiction the Torah symbolically sings out with love and harmony. The depiction of Mazel Tamuz (Cancer the crab) as a large lobster is the one vexing representation among the lot. It was clearly the artist’s mistake that the Jewish patrons simply missed. These pious Eastern European Jews didn’t make such fine distinctions among crustaceans.

It is fairly clear that the prominent presence of the zodiac in the decorations of the Bialystoker Synagogue is not an expression this congregation’s belief in astrology. Rather its place of honor reflects the importance given to the recurring seasons and holidays that link us to both our history and our daily observances.

As we sit in contemplation and prayer in the midst of this visual feast, the words of the Talmud (Berakos 32b) come to mind. “ But Zion said: ‘The Lord hath forsaken me, the Lord hath forgotten me’ (Isaiah 49:14). …The Holy One replied: My daughter, in the firmament I created twelve constellations. For each constellation I created thirty hosts; for each host I created thirty legions; for each legion I created thirty cohorts, for each cohort I created thirty maniples; for each maniple I created thirty camps. And to each camp I attached three hundred and sixty-five thousands of myriads of stars corresponding to the days of the solar year. And all of them I created only for your sake.”

Even the alignment of the ^camps^(see map above) were set up east, south, west, north, based on the following Mazzaroth scriptures, of the Hebrew understandings:

Proverbs 8:27-29
When he established the heavens, I was there, when he drew a circle on the face of the deep, when he made firm the skies above, when he established the fountains of the deep, when he assigned to the sea its limit, so that the waters might not transgress his command, when he marked out the foundations of the earth, . . .

Saint Paul's First Letter to the Corinthians spells it out more clearly -- the sun and the stars are different.

1 Corinthians 15:40-41
There are celestial bodies and there are terrestrial bodies; but the glory of the celestial is one, and the glory of the terrestrial is another, There is one glory of the sun, and another glory of the moon, and another glory of the stars; for star differs from star in glory.

" There are 4 basic directions from which 12 sub-directions emerge... "

Rabbi Reuven Margoliot (in his commentary to Bahir #94, note gimel) suggests that the discrepancy between 70 and 72 can be made up in one of two ways. The 70 nations (mentioned in Gen.10) become 72 when Israel and G-d are counted. Alternatively, as mentioned in Bahir #167, 70 nations become 72 by adding Israel on one side, and the Satan on the other. Paralleling this, the 70 languages become 72 when Hebrew (the language of Israel) and Aramaic (the language of the forces of evil) are counted. Similarly, there are two ways to add to the 70 Elders to make 72: either Moses and the Shechina are added, or Moses and Aaron (as indeed the Arizal does below in our text).

Corresponding to these [either to the 4 letters of lulav, or to the 4 species that we join together: palm, myrtle, willow and etrog], were the three Patriarchs [Abraham, Isaac and Jacob], plus David. [From them, came] the 12 tribes of Israel, and the 70 souls that accompanied Jacob down into Egypt. Corresponding to these were the 4 banners [camps] in the Desert. Each banner represented 3 tribes. Again, 4 x 3 = 12 tribes.

The 70 Elders together with Moses and Aaron totaled 72. Similarly, the 70 members of the Sanhedrin, plus two scribes, totaled 72. One scribe recorded everything in favor of the defendant, and one scribe recorded everything against.

Corresponding to these, there are 4 basic directions [South, North, East, West] from which 12 sub-directions emerge. Each basic direction has two sub-directions. For instance:
" All the different types of animals and birds...were brought into existence through the 72 triads... "

With due east, there is northerly-east and southerly-east.

With due west, there is northerly-west and southerly-west.

With due north, there is easterly-north and westerly-south.

With due south, there is easterly-south and westerly-south.

And if you should ask: What is the difference between southerly-east and easterly-south? As southerly-east is a sub-direction of East, East dominates. As easterly-south is a sub-direction of South, South dominates. The same is true of all the other sub-directions. There are thus 12 sub-directions, each of which bifurcates into 6, yielding a total of 72.

Corresponding to these, there are 72 types of creatures in the world, and 72 types of vegetation. All the different types of animals and birds also total 72. Why? Because they were brought into existence through the 72 triads.

Even the background of our Judeo-Christian teachings . . . are taught to the

At the bottom of the page, are historical references to why the Mazzaroth is under
the guidelines of the Creator God (IHVH). I like the children's learning section. Maybe
some Protestant/Catholic reader's would also like a easy to read reference site
to the Hebrew culture.

Just because astrology `tried` to curse the Mazzaroth, under secular teachings of occult, does
not limit, void nor negate the Mazzaroth ordained by authority of God (IHVH) in `His Divine
Truth `, of the placement of the Hebrew camps of Israel, the 12 stones on the High
Priest Breastplate of Judgement, the Jubliees, the Feast of the Hebrew calendar system,
. . . without this system, even Gog-Magog is left with missing compartments.

Once you understand these Old Testament Hebrew traditions : the camps, the stones,
the Jubliees/Feast, will open the doors of shadow patterns within the 12 Apostles,
unto New Testament Law.

And all of these items, are under the Mazzaroth studies.
