In the NT at the transfiguration Moses and Elijah appeared. One account says this was ''after 6 days''. This would seem to be what Peter referred to when he said some were eye-witnesses of ''his coming in power and glory'' etc.
It would seem this may be at the end of 6000 years.
We know per I Thes. 4 that the dead in Christ will be caught up first at what is called the rapture or the coming of the Lord for those who do not like the word rapture.
Here is what I am thinking. The reason Moses and Elijah appeared is that they represent both groups of those to be caught up........the dead and the living.......Moses, the dead.......Elijah the living.
Note also that Moses lived to be 120 years old. Is this a time clue that his life represented 120 FIFTY Jubilee periods of 50 years each (one way of counting Jubilee's)? That would be 6000 years or 6 days.
Note that when Moses dies in Deut. 32 that he is not sick nor his natural forces ''abated''. ''Moses'' means ''drawn out''. Does His ''resurrection'' at the vision in the NT at the transfiguration represent those who are ''dead in Christ'' who also will be ''drawn out'' of the earth? Whose Bodies also will not be ''found in the earth''?..........
Now here is something interesting. Call it speculation, but at least it is scriptural speculation.
Moses' exact place of burial was not ever known......see Dt.34:6.
In the NT, we have a vague reference to Michael disputing with the devil about the Body of Moses! What is that about?
Consider this. Going by memory here, so please check me.
The general place .......over by Jericho......see Dt. 31:1 IS the same place that Elijah was caught up from. Is that correct?
Elijah was caught up from the same place that Moses was buried.......but that nobody could find the exact location of his grave.
Could this mean this? When the horseman of the Lord came in a Chariot to take Elijah did he FIRST have to take the body of Moses on that same chariot?
Here is the possible explanation. The picture of the ''rapture'' in the NT (the transfiguration), with both Moses and Elijah present, pictures the resurrection of those dead in Christ and those alive.......but we know from I Thes. 4 that the 'dead in Christ ' must be raised FIRST..........and THEN those still alive are caught up TOGETHER......in the air to meet the Lord.
So in order to have the OT typology correct......... Moses must be raised first......at least his body......before Elijah can be ''caught up to meet'' him.
This is a case where we can put some pieces of the puzzle together and even interpret the OT by what the NT reveals.
This would explain Why Elijah was taken to heaven from the Same place that Moses died. Those raised from the dead at the coming of the Lord ALSO ''will not have their bodies found in the earth!!''
It also explains why the devil ''disputed'' with Michael about the body of Moses. The devil probably said something like this ''you can't take Moses' body to heaven because it is not Time for the resurrection of the dead''. It seems it is part of the devil's tactics to challenge God on what He is doing ''before the time'' as we also see in the NT......''you can't torment us, it is Not Time''..........
This seems to fit and is just one more prophetic profile or composite of what is going to happen in the future. It would also suggest that the coming of the Lord is at the end of 6000 years per the NT ''after 6 days'' and then the fact that Moses lived exactly 120 years.....another example is the verse in Gen. ''his years shall be 120 days''.......seemingly showing the time of the mortality of man to be 6000 years.
