The phrase "Let God Be God" is not found in Scripture, yet many a sweaty and babbling pulpiteer says this to make his sermon sound substantive.
God goes to great lengths in Scripture to demonstrate his autonomy and omnipotence, yet arrogant people would think they can "let God" do things. Certain foolish ideological groups even claim to be able to "let the Holy Spirit" do things, even though such a human ambition is never shown in Scripture.
David in Psalms 68:1 spoke, "Let God arise, let His enemies be scattered." Yet, did it happen by means of this statement from him? It did not. A single verse of Scripture is not to be used for an establishment of a doctrine.
From where does this notion of "letting God" do anything come? Not from God, and not from the Apostolic teaching in Scripture. It is an arrogance wrapped up in false "godliness," presented in a churchy sounding manner, and believed by uninformed and gullible people.

I agree with the spirit of your post that the Lord is the agent behind even the desire to do His will. He puts in us His will and then by His power does it. We can desire for the Lord to reign in more and more of our life so that He increases and we decrease.
We can love the life of Jesus more than our life and reckon ourselves as crucified with Christ. That is what baptism represents- the death of the old life. Until that old life dies- the Lord can not live in us.
That is why we must be born again in order for the life of Jesus to live in us.
But the Lord does not force Himself upon us- He is gentle to us.

Yes actually we do have a choice in what God does. We can choose to let him be our master and Lord or we can chose to not let him. He has given us this choice. He can take that choice away from us and make us robots, but that is not his will. The arrogance is not understanding that the choice was given to us.
